I found these new concept images to be interesting as well Doc! although seeing those dark rainbows come out of the ground kinda reminds me of the parts in mlp G4 when King Sombra made his dark crystals pop out of the ground. i mean you never know that could've served as the inspiration for that one particular concept image...at least i think so.
I was really hoping for more adventure and action in the series, like that. I am guessing that they stripped it out of the story and are saving it up for the series and would explain why the movie felt like there were missing pieces in it seemed to have been re-aimed for a more more feel good movie more then anything else.
I’m hoping that when the series kicks off at some point they have a situation involving this exact premise. Just because the idea was scrapped for the movie doesn’t mean it can’t be re-incorporated into the show.
Who says that is the 3rd act? Why couldn't it be the 1st act, which motivates Sunny to go outwards to find a solution (similar to the Storm King's early attack on Canterlot in the G4 movie)?
Maybe they steered away from that due to the reviews of the 2017 movie, and wanted to go for something more lighthearted this time. I also think they might have made the actors use their real voices due to the complaints about the other movie being "shrill" (lots of negative reviews said that). But the dark rainbows look pretty cool. Kind of like a high budget version of Sombra's magic. Or rather, it looks like Twilight's ultra instinct magic with the white replaced by black. Maybe it's corrupted alicorn magic?
I wish that the MLP staff would have used this dark destruction element, then it would have been a more interesting story. If I were to say where the dark magic was coming from I would say from a villain who could be anything. Mostly Likely it would have been A relative of Tirek. But my personal favorite idea is that it was a group of Witches wanting to bring destruction to the land, like the witches from the G1 movie.
I agree with you,Doctor. Its more interesting when the dark is part of the show, and btw that art looks amazing.Thank you for this video,Doctor Wolf,I wish you well have a good evening.🐺👍
We as a species ALL ALWAYS like when our emotions are exploited, because it appeals to and teaches much about our innermost depths; even, including, and especially our darkness.
That concept is in my school vr game where in the game during a boss fight against sg shadow cat slide and sattleair ( sg is shattered glass) sattleair was there but in fecto elfilis place and caused that to errupt from the ground and heck Goalius ultimately scanned the energy to be a substance called dark energon and during it it was causing the character unicron to die and there was a bit where goalius lost his left arm in a recreation spell affect by that dark blast
I personally wish they went this route, it was a lot more intense and definietly more invested. Of course I'm an 80s kid so I'm used to this kind of dark atmosphere in kid shows. I know times have changed, but I argue not really for the better. Studios and companies of said studios seem to be more scared of parent ridicule that they overly shelter what they put into cartoons these days, but seriously underestimate what kids can actually handle. I mean look at Disney, they still get away with dark themes and they are still a huge success. Hasbro, it's okay, release your inner Rainbow of DARKNESSSSSSSSS ~
I had to double take when this was another upload discussing concept art, I thought it was someone’s amazing fan work! What if this was supposed to be a villain who got sealed away long ago, the seal weakening due to loss of magic, and now they’re wrecking just enough havoc on the world above to escape? Or maybe trying to bend the ponies to their will? I also like the suggestion that they could be Rainbows of Darkness.
Dark rainbows? Sounds like it would’ve been the first time since G1 where we got something like that. It certainly would’ve been more intimidating than an Earth pony in a destructive war mech.
It might still happen. Maybe they decided to save it for the mlp5 series and use the movie to open the world of G5. I remember reading online that there is a toy of Sunny that mentions fighting fighting King Sombra. Maybe this is his dark magic destroying everything. Maybe they wanted to explore more of Maretime bay before it gets destroyed. Just my opinion.
These concept images are truly intriguing indeed and the hidden potentials they had, to tie in and expand the lore, could have been, to my opinion, at least, very interesting. an idea I thought of is, between S4 and the movie, a natural/magical phenomenon, awoke a dark essence, an ancient entity, like Grogar/Tirek Prime, then " Heartwarming day carol" plays out, but the entity, absorbs the Wendigos and regains sentience and power. Leading to the dark rainbows and destruction, giving the movie some gravitas and the reason that magic, nor the Wendigos are present. But that is, just an idea, on my part. Thank you very much, DRWolf001. :D
I really wish they had gone in this direction. The final film was pretty good as it was, but to me it kind of lacked that "OOMPF" that would have pushed its narrative and characters to a higher level. I hope some of these concepts will be saved/reused for future episodes of the upcoming show or maybe even another film.
What if it was the first act, leading Sunny to go out and find out more about the phenomena and how to save her father. However, she wasn’t able to save him in the end, but she in turn gained a new family and sense of unity.
I hope they come back to this at some point, maybe the finale of the generation all together but still it’s a great concept and they should work it in somewhere down the line
I guess this used to be the story when Paramount was handling the project? Maybe when it was redistributed to Netflix, things have changed to what we got instead. Not sure if what I said is even true. It's just jarring to have the production cut a lot of interesting content like this.
I think they will clear up how they got the new and improved rainbow lighthouse in the upcoming series. At the top of the lighthouse you can see the crystals united like they were at the end of the movie, so I'm assuming the "friendship magic" created that or maybe sunny did either way I'm sure they will explain how they got it.
I wish they were allowed to use darker themes more, they really are fascinating and would help the franchise to grow with its fans, but I kind of understand why they would want to maintain everything kid friendly. Still I hope we get to see similar themes in a future
So there was a earlier version of the story where Argyle was still alive and part of his daughter’s life, interesting. My only guess is that originally they wanted a villain to be responsible for taking away all the magic but later decided that maybe they don’t need a villain and that the loss of magic would be of the pony’s own doing. The source of the story’s conflict being their own bias’s and hatred against themselves.
Well since the three tribes of pony kind are against each other, my best guess is that is some kind of magic of hatred. Maybe somehow the dark magic was still active in the underground and the ponies Sprout going mad was what made the magic to burst out. Although that's just a theory.
So basically this is my idea . The underneath maritime Bay since the ruins of the dark castle of Terror. Not named is Tarek owned it or ruled from it but because that's where his final resting place Leigh. After terex third coming the elements and their allies broke him using the powers of the elements so violently over the past years they had been corrupted the Rainbow beam that would fix most any problem was corrupted forever reaching terex file magic. So they see you later weigh in the dark fortress under maritime Bay.
reminds me of what happened to the Masamune sword in Chrono Cross. it used to be a holy weapon that defeated great evil, but after fighting so many primordial entities, or maybe after the new timeline happened after Chrono Trigger that undid that game's happy ending idk, the sword somehow absorbed a cosmic crapton of bad juju resulting in anyone holding it in their possession to turn evil and violent. i never liked chrono cross' plot, it undoes everything good about the original and turns it into a cavalcade of misery, authoritarianism, trauma, and needles blame on the protagonist.
@@brianross3988 yeah I understand. They did that thing that you do when you try and make a grittier story Without much time or effort. The grim derp wave.
This would have been a very dark and interesting idea for the movie, and as much as I would have loved to have seen it, I do understand why the idea was replaced with what the film gave us. Maybe too dark or messed up for a family film? Who knows why exactly, but so many ideas were replaced. It is surprising to see this stuff.
It wouldn't have mattered to me if the story was a dark theme or not, just for as long as it was interesting or exciting. I always thought of Sprout's 'master plan reveal' at the end of this movie was as bland as Sunset Shimmer's in the first EQ movie. A story doesn't really need to be dark just for as long as the idea is original and peaks your interest. An example of this was the animated movie called Megamind. In that movie, an amateur super villain manages to defeat his nemesis, but quickly becomes bored and feeling empty. He tries to fix this by creating another super hero from scratch to fight him. However, the new hero turns bad and the villain is forced to fill the role of super hero and save the city. I think it would be interesting to see the creators of MLP look at all the stereotypical types of stories and ask themselves 'what hasn't been tried yet' or 'how can we spin one of these templates'. I would like to see what they can come up with in the future.
I also think they will probably introduce a new g5 villain that they decided to put in the series instead of the movie, that would make sense and maybe talk about what happened to Sunny's dad.
i really hope they save an idea like this for the CGI show. i mean, i know Hasbro is usually way too scared of going dark - especially with MLP - but they can't just let this idea go to waste.
I wish it was the case, there's a war going on in Canterlot and it was in ruins. Another thing in mind is also the return of Tambelon and the real Grogar came back with a vengeance, but only he can still seek out the bell that was in Sunny's lighthouse.
I do have a theory as to what that black energy may be. We know the magic of Friendship was gone, but there wasn't an onset of Wendigos. The Magic had to go somewhere and I believe I know where. As you mentioned, the Rainbow of Darkness from Gen 1 which would corrupt and twist anything into a darker version of itself. We know Terik existed in this world, and therefore we can assume the Rainbow of Darkness also exists. My theory is that in this version, the Rainbow of Darkness was never destroyed, and this is what has been draining all the magic and feeding off the paranoia of the ponies for all these years. The Rainbow is why there were no Wendigos since it was feeding off the same thing the wendigos fed from. And when our heroes were about to bring together the magic of Friendship, it attacked the place that it saw as a threat to itself.
I'm also fascinated by the idea of MLP using darker themes. May I ask, do you think, or would you like, the REAL Grogar to appear in G5, since he didn't appear for real in G4? It's just that they gave him such a dark and dramatic backstory in G4; an ancient tyrant, a powerful sorcerer and a creator of monsters who is older than Equestria itself, only to not have him appear in the series at all. I would like him to appear in G5 as a genuinely dark and terrifying villain. What do you think?
, The place with sunny and Argyle, could be similar to what happened with Elsa, she met with her mother again in frozen two, if they take this idea for an last episode and season finale and season premiere or for a special episode, it would be really cool to see.
This is more like it! A more 'legit' reason why the pony races are no longer friends together. One town gets attacked by some dark force, naturally the Earth ponies would think the Unicorn are involved (Unless some flying creatures are involved in the attack in which they assume the Pegasi had a hand). The only reason why I think these darker elements were rejected from the movie was to either 'reserve' it for the following Netflix series to indicate there's more to the disbandment than we thought from the movie OR... this ends up becoming a nightmare sequence in which involves the death of Sunny's father proving that his passing haunts her more than she lets on.
Wow I would have loved to see where that story would have went. But there is something Argiel seems to be getting lifted up by one of the eruptions. To be honest here this story would have made his passing a lot more viable. If he got caught in one. Instead of how the did it.
I agree. I do enjoy writing dark stories myself, probably just because those types of stories do allow for more character growth in my opinion and allow for more ideas to be explored.
Considering that there have been rumours that MLP: Make your Mark will include Sombra as one of the main villains, I do think that maybe the producers were toying with the idea of having Sombra as the main antagonist of MLP: A New Generation, maybe wanting to build off of the idea that Gen 5 is set in the same timeline as Gen 4, but, for whatever reason, it was decided not to include Sombra in the movie and instead, have Sprout as the main antagonist. Maybe the producers, or Hasbro, felt that Sombra was just too dark of a villain to include so soon, but that’s just my guess.
Who knows maybe this might return but as like a a dark past to Maritime Bay it could be like some type of earthquake but due to the magic not being around the Earth hasn't had earth pony magic soil causing it to be more destructive causing Mayhem to the town causing the death of a lot of ponies including Sunny's dad and like many earthquakes cities and towns rebuild so that's why we don't see any proof that something happen
I HATE seeing concept art of scrapped ideas like this because it makes me so mad that we didn't get that in the end. All the concept art for the movie or g5 in general is so much more interesting and just makes you go "wow" But the final g5 we got seems so much more watered down than what was originally planned and it pains me even more because of how bad g5 seems to be doing currently.
Hmm. Considering the revelation that the Everfree has been completely buried under the ground to the point only the tip of the Tree of Harmony, perhaps the dark energy was either Tirek and co bursting free of their stone prison from a long forgotten buried chamber deep underground the power of Tartarus escaping due to magic not keeping the doors sealed?
So when I saw part of the movie Sunny's dad's glasses that you saw in my old Pony generation 5 to show its shadow like he didn't passed away she was in some kind of dark dimension could be that's the case or probably he was hiding the secrets when he pretended he passed away and I send you this comment because I'm just giving you Clues which I don't know we'll see if they make this film
This seems so so something that would be true so true that I can make the movie myself just not all the animation but I could direct and write everything I can literally imagine all of it right now hahaha I have the power just kidding oh I certainly think this would be a good idea by the way if you get this comment I suggest looking back at your other videos and reading comments there too you never know if someone said something there that's what everyone should do in my opinion
It’s either the result of things being out of balance with all the species being separated and untrusting of one another like the wendigos without the snow. Or maybe it’s the beginnings of a new threat/villain making their way out.
A foretold creature of darkness that was sealed away many moons ago finally breaking free of its chains and escaping by tearing itself through the town causing these columns of darkness to appear.
Maybe that will explain what happened to Argyle Starshine (Sunny's father) and why he died (I think so). Also, it is going to be more like of a dark villain using the strife to power their own destructive magic to destroy all of Equestria.
New & returning non-pony species that will return in "My Little Pony: Make Your Mark": 1. Dragons 2. Changelings (Now unreformed due to the loss of magic) 3. Yaks 4. Griffons (Now nomadic) 5. Wyverns (Two-legged dragons) 6. Nagas (Snake ponies) 7. Demons 8. Aliens 9. Trogals 10. Creatures straight up from the Lovecraftian Mythos, albeit redesigned to look cuter & kid-friendly
I wish more cartoons would have Darkness and evil tones because I really modern cartoons are now all rainbow colorful glitter and all that Bulldog shitzu but no I'm being for real I like shows that have Darkness evil I love that stuff I'm okay if it's a show that every season has a dark episode because those dark episodes are going to be my favorite but I don't like modern cartoons like Unikitty she gets on my nerves and it's all rainbow and all that junk life is messed up life is dark life is not what people wish It could be there are awful awful messed up stuff that happen and I feel like modern cartoons are trying to like brainwashed kids into believing that there's no Madness in life their minds are goop and I feel like when I show has a dark episode you kind of feel like oh something bad like this could happen shows that have dark episodes I feel like they are better for kids instead of modern shows
Destruction? MLP: FIM had a few destruction scenes. The Library was destroyed in the season four finale. The Tree of Harmony was destroyed in the season nine premiere. There was suppose to be a deleted scene of the series finale were Cozy Glow destroyed the CMC clubhouse. Was there other destruction taking place in MLP?
I found these new concept images to be interesting as well Doc! although seeing those dark rainbows come out of the ground kinda reminds me of the parts in mlp G4 when King Sombra made his dark crystals pop out of the ground. i mean you never know that could've served as the inspiration for that one particular concept image...at least i think so.
Well there was some info on Sunny protecting the world against Sombra at one point so-
This concept would make for a great episode
It reminds me more of the "Rainbow of Darkness" from G1.
Edit: Litterally as I was writing this, Dr Wolf said it XD.

I was guessing twilight sparkle because of her friends and family are no longer with her she fell into depressed
I would say a billion year old creature lying dormant under Equestria.
That does sound like a reasonable idea
Yeah that is a pretty interesting idea. I just wanted a more intimidating villain than sprout.
How abot this: King Sombra & the Pony of Shadows merged into one?

Why is the concept art five hundred times better than anything we got?
I think it was a lack of magic and friendship that destroyed the pony cities
I hope this is used in the series

That one where the pony is horrified running from one of the beams is so scary and probably the darkest concept art for the franchise! :o
The more that is revealed the more questions we have.

Yes, yes, YES!!! I like dark themes! I want them in series or specials, just to do it MLP!!!
I suddenly have an urge to find every piece of this concept art and try to implement ideas into a KH crossover.
maybe this will be used as a plot for future episodes/specials
This would have been a very dark and interesting idea for the movie, and as much as I would have loved to have seen it, I do understand why the idea was replaced with what the film gave us. I hate it when writers have something epic but the big bosses tell you to tone it down
Sunny: to protect the world from devastation! Izzy: to unite all ponies within our nation!!!
I hope they put these ideas in the series
I also think they will probably introduce a new g5 villain that they decided to put in the series instead of the movie, that would make sense and maybe talk about what happened to Sunny's dad.

That would had been King Sombra return! No wait, "Dark Rainbow"! Aaaahhh! It's Thunder Blight! Help Blissy Doc!
To replace the Alicorn princesses, i want a big Sumerian-esque city populated entirely by Alicorns in G5.
In G4 there is the Mane 6, the Mean 6 & the Student 6. I wouldn't be surprised if Hasbro goes further into 666 in G5.
Remember crippled ponies like Scootaloo & Kerfuffle in G4? I have an idea of having cyborg ponies in G5.
I always liked to put darker elements in my drawings. One of my drawings literally is almost like Morpho Knight. From Kirby
I wish I didn't try that drinking game
Hm, interesting and very fascinating.
Omg yes
Grogars magic
i think they scrapped this for an overall reach for community
I wish they had gone through with it. Hasbro usually steps on these plots
Ok, now we know at least how Argyle COULD have died O_o
Wow I would have loved to see where that story would have went. But there is something Argiel seems to be getting lifted up by one of the eruptions. To be honest here this story would have made his passing a lot more viable. If he got caught in one. Instead of how the did it.
King Sombra‘s return! Or Tirek
Honestly some of the darker fan fics are the best.
I agree. I do enjoy writing dark stories myself, probably just because those types of stories do allow for more character growth in my opinion and allow for more ideas to be explored.
Yes it looks like thet was in the old mlp when I look at i was like king sombra maybe I didn't know but would of been cool if that happened
I like the darker themes as well, gives the story a more mature look to it in my opinion.
Hmm. Considering the revelation that the Everfree has been completely buried under the ground to the point only the tip of the Tree of Harmony, perhaps the dark energy was either Tirek and co bursting free of their stone prison from a long forgotten buried chamber deep underground the power of Tartarus escaping due to magic not keeping the doors sealed?
or..... what if it's Grogar coming back? ya know, the REAL Grogar?
Or a billion year old creature waking up after a long sleep under Equestria.
I think this more of brainstorming
I wonder if Hasbro pulls SCPs 1762 & 3844 with the dragons in G5.
And I hated sprout for trying to cause destruction shame on him but glad he thought it was wrong
Waiting for fanfiction on this idea
Hmm Dark violet rays? like... a Nightmare Twilight?
I wonder if this is what caused the destruction of Twilight's kingdomm
Midnight Sparkle,
Maybe that will explain what happened to Argyle Starshine (Sunny's father) and why he died (I think so). Also, it is going to be more like of a dark villain using the strife to power their own destructive magic to destroy all of Equestria.
very interesting!
New & returning non-pony species that will return in "My Little Pony: Make Your Mark":
1. Dragons
2. Changelings (Now unreformed due to the loss of magic)
3. Yaks
4. Griffons (Now nomadic)
5. Wyverns (Two-legged dragons)
6. Nagas (Snake ponies)
7. Demons
8. Aliens
9. Trogals
10. Creatures straight up from the Lovecraftian Mythos, albeit redesigned to look cuter & kid-friendly
Why aliens?
Interesting… 🧐🧐🧐🧐
I thought gen 5 was going to be for teens, a.k.a more intense. I would like to see this movie.
yuh
♥️
🤔🤔🤔🧐🧐🧐
I think Equestria should stop having Alicorn rulers sit on a throne & instead worship them as gods, building temples & shrines dedicated to them.
What is the evil during Equestria’a downfall
They just making the second movie
I think it whos a dark villain 🤔 I think it whos shroot
I wish more cartoons would have Darkness and evil tones
because I really modern cartoons are now all rainbow colorful glitter and all that Bulldog shitzu but no I'm being for real I like shows that have Darkness evil I love that stuff I'm okay if it's a show that every season has a dark episode because those dark episodes are going to be my favorite but I don't like modern cartoons like Unikitty she gets on my nerves and it's all rainbow and all that junk life is messed up life is dark life is not what people wish It could be there are awful awful messed up stuff that happen and I feel like modern cartoons are trying to like brainwashed kids into believing that there's no Madness in life their minds are goop and I feel like when I show has a dark episode you kind of feel like oh something bad like this could happen shows that have dark episodes I feel like they are better for kids instead of modern shows
Maybe they would use it later?
Maybe it's their hatred
Destruction? MLP: FIM had a few destruction scenes. The Library was destroyed in the season four finale. The Tree of Harmony was destroyed in the season nine premiere. There was suppose to be a deleted scene of the series finale were Cozy Glow destroyed the CMC clubhouse. Was there other destruction taking place in MLP?
Sombra. 👀
I think this is a dark force.
Three Words tree of harmony
or better yet: Grogar
Or twilight sparkle herself
