I Bought a 1962 Belair Bubbletop!! - Last Driven in 1979! (Old Car Rescue)

  • Hey everyone and welcome back to Iowa Classic Cars! Today's video is very special because I bought a 1962 Chevy belair bubbletop! They made a little under 6,000 bubbletops in 1962 with a v8, and less than 4,000 with a 6 cylinder, making them very rare. Most of these were drag raced back in the day and many fitted with 409s and 4 speeds. This car was last registered in 1979 and has been sitting in a barn ever since. It was a true barn find Chevrolet and still had the barn dust on it when I picked it up! Make sure to stay tuned for future videos talking about this rare Chevy!

My sister had a black 57 Belair, her husband a 61 Impala SS, me a 64 Impala SS. And they where all Shiny and waxed. The word patina never was uttered. These are iconic rides and deserve to be restored. Have fun.

On 1964 I purchased a nice 1961 Bel Air bubbletop with 283 & 4 bbl carb. 3 speed on the column, 4:11 Positrac rear end. Was originally ordered as a "street sleeper". I repainted to a pretty yellow. Installed custom saddle brown leather interior, brown carpet ( factory was black rubber). Installed a corvette 327, 350HP cam. Had the car 3 years and married a gal that could not learn to drive a column shift and had to sell the car. Still have the gal but I wish I also still had the 61 Bubble top. The front seat material and the buttons embossed in the cloth reminds me of a 1966 Caprice 2 door seat. Maybe that's where it came from. And on the Iowa plate, it has a 25 in front of the registration number. Does the 25 represent the county it was registered in? A car friend from Wyoming said the more populated counties have low 1st numbers like 1 and 2 and so on. The lower populated counties have the higher numbers. Just thought it might be the same. Great save by the way.

I had a neighbor who had a 1962 four-door hardtop Belair, same “autumn gold“ color. He was the original owner, who kept it at least 20 years, before giving it to another neighbor. If that is THEE original paint, you ought to buff it out.
