At age 20, the athletic attacking game of Federer was already very effective and entertaining to watch. In 2019, I'm happy to see Shapolalov bring a similar game style to counter the baseline grinding of most other players.

RF is very young here, 20, but you can already see that he's got an incredible game replete with virtually every shot in the game plus movement and tons of athletic ability. Wow.

Well, he was still 19 ...roger was born on August, 8th 1981....and this match was played on May, 2001

Amazing. Looks like outside court with better camera angle. You get a better sense of the hyper velocity and athleticism of the pros.

Yes, the camera angle makes a huge difference. With the usual nosebleed camera angle, the pace of shot and footspeed of the players is lost.

they both are looking for oppotunities to attack, plus Roger's all court style is so diverse and pleasant to watch... You got almost all the shots this sport can offer in one match

5:11-5:17 is a perfect example of how to negate a powerful cross court forehand: get to ball, lift ball into air so you have time to get back into court while your opponent tries to hit a complicated backhand pass or make you run more, then FED earns the point with his feet but wins it his head and inside-out forehand. You can coach this, but it is super hard to instill that much passion.

Let’s all just acknowledge that this was done with an 85 sq inch racquet

@@aracen74 maybe, but nobody hits the ball with the degree of topspin that Nadal does.

He might be good some day!!!!! Why is anybody talking about this guy??? Looks sharp!! Better than Sinner and Alcaraz

He's SO fast. I think a whole step faster than now. Effortless cross court forehand!

Is it just me or does RG2001 look faster than all non-Shanghai hard courts today?

Yes it was. However, it is not easy to conclude why. The weather plays a role as well as the players topspin. Also the type of the clay (I am not sure about this?) can be a factor.

Love the old tennis where most men players were men and only required one hand to hit a backhand

If Federer we're more ambitious like Nadal he might have had 28 GS by this time
