As much as I love your budget decks since they really are budget the only problem is that sometimes it might still take a little bit more than the cost cause if you Order online sometimes your still going to get tax (since some states Ohio will charge a tax on the online site if the order comes from in state) and you sometimes have to pay shipping though shipping is sometimes needed in order to make sure the item is shipped correctly and safely.
+Tolarian Community College Hey prof. I have a question on pauper. I'm thinking of trying to get my group to at least try it. Sadly the group is one of those that love their shiny mythics and such. Anyways I'm thinking of going and building a small assortment of pauper decks myself, then try to get a few games started with my assortment of decks to let them try pauper. What assortment of decks would you recommend that would be fairly balanced between all of them, so no one deck is overly dominate, and each has a fairly good chance of winning if the pilot knows what they are doing? On a side note, we do tons of commander, and someone had the crazy idea of commander pauper, where your general is simply an uncommon creature, and rest is common, and the remaining rules of commander apply beyond that one change to the commander selection. you thoughts on the idea? or suggestions on how to make it something that works?
Hold on. There's a card on Magic Online that's in "short supply?" Short supply of what? It's a digital manifestation of an existing paper card. Are we running out of pixels with which to display the cards?
+RevolverPhantom Cards on magic online are obtained just like cards in real life are. By opening packs. Some cards, like Ramosian Rally for example, were only available to be opened for a very limited amount of time and in a different way than normal (the packs were block packs, not set) so it is in very short supply.
+RevolverPhantom Probably because WotC sucks at video games. With a pay-to-win model and a demographic that's too old to play video games that require much of an execution-based element- they have a huge potential demographic with loads of spare income. Because of this they see success and revenue despite utterly failing as a video game maker in MTGO. What can anyone do to make them change, assuming they should? And that's really the butt of the problem; the MTG community doesn't want to admit their game is P2W. Oh no, some cards are more in demand than others, and for that people have to pay $500 to get a Standard deck that can win tournaments. No; that's exactly that Pay to Win is- going into a match with a disadvantage because you paid less for the game. Nobody asks for change because nobody has ever convinced the community that they deserve better, or they simply get downvoted and shunned from the majority of the community. In theory the rarity model is great; it's what makes games like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive thrive by granting this level of prestige, artistry, and self-expression to players. However, CS:GO doesn't let any of these elements affect the game. You can't buy a better gun with real-world money, and the game thrives for it. There's technically no reason to buy a $300 knife, or make that knife worth $3. The usage of this artificial scarcity benefits the revenue stream of the game. Of course, it's only okay because this model is purely cosmetic, and in turn the developers to keep updating the game to maintain that playerbase. WotC might be worried that, if they change their business model, they can end up financially erratic and maybe die off. Since nobody is prodding them to take the plunge, they won't take the plunge.
I could only see myself getting into that if it was built with ethereum, neo .etc networks.. but it aint. Its a crappy mobile game that lacks a sense of scarcity lol. Just shilled inflated bites.
Professor I just 5-0'd pauper league with this deck. I have never before played pauper in my life and only started MTG over the summer. lol nice deck A++
Professor, your intros are fantastic! I've re-watched this video, the archenemy video, and the sen triplets video solely because of the introductions that you did. Fantastic job! You make content like this far more interesting than any other mtg content creator!
Court Street Denizen, Captains Call, Steeling Stance, Break of Day, and Cavalry Pegasus, are all nice commons I have in my mono-white tokens deck, that would work quite nicely with this one to make those white tokens even more useful.
As a happy Esper Familiar player, Capsize, Snap, and Cloud of Faeries would like to have words with Ms. Suture Priest >:) But, all jesting aside, it's great to see more Pauper love. Awesome work as always, Professor!
This deck is crazy, I've been playing it online for a couple of days and it performs so well. Just destroying everything, the side board just makes it even crazier.
I haven't really had a problem beating this deck with MBC, Pestilence and Coumbajj Witches really do a great job keeping it down, and pro black doesn't help against the overload of edicts. Cool deck though.
Those two cards from The Dark you put at the sideboard... gosh, what an amazing art! I wish we could get back to traditional art, instead of this heavy digital cards from now.
Who else believes Lumithread Field is from the plane of Belenon? :) The "Bastion of Suns" mentioned in the flavour text seems to go well with the Windriddle Palaces" from Planechase...
Professor! I think there is a card that would be nice in this deck: Martyr of sands, running 2 or 3 in a mono white deck could cause early troubles to many!
Professor qustion have you heard of pauper commander? It's pauper but also commander and sticks to the commons rule but your commander has to have been printed as a common or uncommon like Torsten Von Ursten, or Jerrad of the closed fist etc...
Do you follow Deluxicoff at all Professor? He's on Facebook, and he's been a huge advocate to the deck and has a put in a lot of work tweaking it. Great video btw! Excellent quality as always.
@@newtpondskipper Holy shit I completely forgot about mtg and pauper decks. 29 cents sounds amazing, I might just get back into magic and try this deck now lol. Thank you!
Are there any good replacements for Battle Screech? I wanted to make this deck in paper, but on CardKingdom Battle Screech is over $4 for each card, which is a bit more than I wanted to spend.
It's one of the main cards in the deck, and I've won so many times by using it because my opponent doesn't have any flyers, so I cast Guardian's Pledge to win. But if they can't fly, then it's kind of useless because my opponent can just block.
I have a question for you Professor. I'm in a predicament. I started playing magic a few months ago, and last night I pulled a Foil Mythic Scalding Tarn from Zendikar Expeditions. The expensive one. I want to sell it. Can you, or anyone give me any advice?
I love your pauper videos. More Pauper. Could you possibly give some insight into standard pauper? Would this be viable being that most the standard commons really are not any good.
My only issue with paper pauper is that when you order from TCGPlayer, you almost always need to order more from the stores because your cart has less than a dollar from each of them ;)
My setup goes more heavily on the long game. This is my build: 4x Battle Screech 4x Gather the Townsfolk 3x Guardians' Pledge 4x Journey to Nowhere 4x Kjeldoran War Cry 2x Oblivion Ring 19x Plains 4x Raise the Alarm 4x Secluded Steppe 4x Soul's Attendant 4x Squadron Hawk 4x Suture Priest Sideboard: 3x Divine Offering 2x Holy Light 3x Lumithread Field 1x Oblivion Ring 3x Relic of Progenitus 3x Rune of Protection: Red I was having issues with match-ups involving Affinity, Burn, and Elves. So my sideboard shows my designated hate towards them. I prefer Lumithread Field in the sideboard as well merely because most match-ups I've played against don't run sweepers till post-sideboard. I'm also sad that the professor didn't mention Kjeldoran War cry! They get more value for each one you use. The only deck that is a nightmare right now is that U/G Turbo fog deck. I need to update the sideboard to deal with that. Also Gather the town's folk at 5 life against burn with a Soul sister or suture priest out is an amazing feeling
+RagonWolfBane war cry is guna be interesting in the mirror match. i attack i block i war cry for 1 well, i war cry for 2 i suppose i should war cry for 3 now fffffffffffff what? fog.
+Daracaex Soul's Attendant has the "may" clause attached to the lifegain, meaning you can choose not to gain life. In certain cases this can be beneficial as the Warden forces you to gain life whether you want to or not. The cases for this are rare, but it's still an important distinction between the two.
+WilhelmScreamer Soul's Attendant is a may ability, Soul Warden's is not. Soul's Attendant might give you more flexibility, I guess, but I think they can be interchangeable for most purposes.
Crusader1089 the cards in pauper simply don't get complex enough for that type of interaction, it really is just the echoing cycle from fifth dawn. 3/5 are removal after all.
+YIPPERSCOTCH I'll start poking around and look into it, but keep in mind Standard is about to change so it may have to wait until after that change. Let's see what i can research!
You gotta be poor to play in pauper and vintage, you gotta be rich to play in standard and legacy and you gotta be medium wealth to play in modern. That's what a tall, over obsessed friend of mine who bought 5 booster boxes right after BFZ came out.
did anyone else notice the incorrect math on guardians' pledge and Ramosian rally. Not complaining and I get he's an English major but it just made me chuckle a little.

how to beat this is using 2 turn one ornithopters and on the next turn play ensoul artifact on one of them and attack for 5 on the next turn cast the other one on the other ornithopter and swing in for 10 next turn they die. this is how i won against this deck.
I know this comment is old, but it is not as much hatred for walmart or target but a plea for players in the US to buy magic product from lgs, which are the actual place where you usually would play magic
Please keep these Pauper decks videos coming. I'm a Pauper fanatic and enjoy all these fun ideas.

+Tolarian Community College Professor, you are awesome!

Viomonk That sounds like an unnecessary step to fix playability of cards in a format that doesn't have physical products.
+RevolverPhantom Probably because WotC sucks at video games. pauper is the greatest, you should do more pauper vids.
Yup, I agree

I think I'm going to introduce my friends who are wary about the cost of magic to the format and build this! Thanks for the great video.
Just built this with the bonesplitters for 5 tix and I have to say I'm very impressed with this deck. Its far more explosive than it looks.
As a happy Esper Familiar player, Capsize, Snap, and Cloud of Faeries would like to have words with Ms. Suture Priest >:)
But, all jesting aside, it's great to see more Pauper love. Awesome work as always, Professor!
Really love your pauper deck techs! I'm surprised I skipped over this one lol! good thing i came back!
This is a great format. I can show new players that the massive card collections are not a barrier to entry.
I like the white weenies in pauper. One of my first decks was a standard Kithkin deck that was very similar. I may be putting this together!
That opening speech was marvellous, professor.
I actually really liked that intro. Well done sir.
This deck is crazy, I've been playing it online for a couple of days and it performs so well. Just destroying everything, the side board just makes it even crazier.
Wow, didn't know about Standard Bearer, the pauper version of Spellskite! :)
I haven't really had a problem beating this deck with MBC, Pestilence and Coumbajj Witches really do a great job keeping it down, and pro black doesn't help against the overload of edicts. Cool deck though.
I put in Kjedoran War Cry, I feel like at instant speed giveing all of your creatures +1/+1, if not more, this is a pretty good card.
I know this video is 2 years old, but would Cartouche of Solidarity help here?
Years later and most of that sideboard is still viable. Of course we now have the amazing thraben charm.
I actually turned this deck into a modern token deck, it packs quite a punch. I put Ajani goldmane and some other rares in it.
Those two cards from The Dark you put at the sideboard... gosh, what an amazing art! I wish we could get back to traditional art, instead of this heavy digital cards from now.

This deck is a house. I played it against my Elvish turbofog deck. It's got inevitability. Let the game go on too long, and White Tokens will win.
Okay I've only one question: WHY is Battle Screech Pauper legal? In paper it was only printed in Judgment at uncommon level.
+TheWonderdoc Nope, it was printed at common in vintage masters, and that makes it legal in pauper.
+TheWonderdoc it was reprinted as a common in vintage master
Tolarian Community College
well i said in paper prints but thanks for the quick answer.
+TheWonderdoc Paper pauper isn't really a format yet so they tend to use the online legality list.
+r4vendusk thanks, was confused too^^
Man, Battle Screech got too expensive now at $3.99 each, making just 4 of them $16 total, worth more than the deck itself
Miguel Ochoa And now it has gone up even more
.29 cents now woot!

Try tcgplayer?
Ik thats blasphemous but 🤷♂️
New to the game. If my LGS were not to allow the online legality list, what would be a possible replacement for Battle Screech?
It's one of the main cards in the deck, and I've won so many times by using it because my opponent doesn't have any flyers, so I cast Guardian's Pledge to win. But if they can't fly, then it's kind of useless because my opponent can just block.

great deck though, i love it
Please update this for today. This looks fun!
wish i had the 30 tics to get this deck maybe ill get it for myself after xmas! it looks really fun to play
where do you guys buy your paper decks I find shipping and handling/min order fees to be a hassle.
prof's math tho:
$0.15 each
x4 = $0.45
$0.14 each
x4 = 0.41
+Maciej Miszczak Alright, I think I need to start using a calculator instead of doing it in my head as I edit....
+Tolarian Community College *insert corect horse here*
+Maciej Miszczak He just tested us all, since MtG is mostly math, and you propably passed :)
My only issue with paper pauper is that when you order from TCGPlayer, you almost always need to order more from the stores because your cart has less than a dollar from each of them ;)

Hi Proffesor!
Do you think you could do some more EDH tech? I would really like a video on underrated card as an example :)
How do you think this deck should be updated today, with fiery cannonade in the format?
i love the deck design
I am running a similar olist and I am running stonybrook schoolmaster and Icatian crier. I would love some feedback if you could help me. Thank you!
I think I would modify this deck with a splash of red. Maybe some goblin token generators and a full set of impact tremors.
Thank you for the information.
I made a black white build a while ago, yours looks like it is a better though haha
Whats the card at 1:50?
I m a big fan of you professor
Since this is a Pauper deck, wouldn't Battle Screech not be legal since it's an uncommon?
awsome deck!your mileage might vary? as a literature man do you see tv tropes?
"We didn't land in Sherwood Forest! Sherwood Forest landed on us!"
I am so building this!
You totally need to play wedge on stream agents his sliver deck that the made a deck tech for today.
Do a review on new intro packs because now they provide a deck instead!
How does this fare against mono-blue delver?
Why two Soul's Attendant and two Soul Warden instead of four of one of them? Also, why the price difference? The cards appear to be identical.
+Daracaex cards like echoing decay
+Daracaex Soul's Attendant says"you may", so you never have to worry about gaining life when you don't want to! ;)
+Daracaex
Soul's Attendant has the "may" clause attached to the lifegain, meaning you can choose not to gain life. In certain cases this can be beneficial as the Warden forces you to gain life whether you want to or not. The cases for this are rare, but it's still an important distinction between the two.
Buena los token van en deck o son a parte
is there any meaningful distinction between soul warden and soul's attendant in this deck?
+WilhelmScreamer echoing truth and its kin are all commons. gotta dodge the 2 for ones if you can.
+WilhelmScreamer Soul's Attendant is a may ability, Soul Warden's is not. Soul's Attendant might give you more flexibility, I guess, but I think they can be interchangeable for most purposes.

I don't understand. I've just started playing Magic again since the early 90s. In what format is this legal? Could I take this to standard FNM?
+Nic Gadpie You should check out the following video: An Introduction to Pauper: th-cam.com/video/J7qQXP-Qk9E/w-d-xo.html
Wonderful! Thank you for your time.
Professor, do you think you could do a red/white budget deck for standard? Please?
+YIPPERSCOTCH I'll start poking around and look into it, but keep in mind Standard is about to change so it may have to wait until after that change. Let's see what i can research!
+Tolarian Community College Honestly, with the addition of wastes, it's going to make deck construction a bit different with OGW. Still hoping though.
You gotta be poor to play in pauper and vintage, you gotta be rich to play in standard and legacy and you gotta be medium wealth to play in modern. That's what a tall, over obsessed friend of mine who bought 5 booster boxes right after BFZ came out.
with pauper I am building a mono red deck with impact tremors and I won 4 out of 5 games against delever
"URZA" Coupon is "Invalid/Expired" :/
What about the card virulent plague?
+theseacity Virulent Plague is uncommon, so it's illegal in Pauper.
The Townsfolk have gathered enough 5-0 wins in Pauper League to deserve more than your token analysis.
did anyone else notice the incorrect math on guardians' pledge and Ramosian rally. Not complaining and I get he's an English major but it just made me chuckle a little.
Nice K. Marx reference ;)
How relavant is this years later? Always have been a fan of white
Kyle Stewart still fine. Very cheap to build. Run tinder farm and rally the peasants. Made it online a while ago without the Ramosian Rally for under 1tix.
Update: i feel like after commander legends printing two "pauper boardwipes" in the form of fiery cannonade and the black one this may be in dire need for more support, will probably still hold up before opponent sideboards tho
(I know this comment is old but just in case anyone wants to know)
Brave the Elements too
I swear I read it as Mono-White Pupper, then immediately clicked on it.
Played against this last night online with my green tron and had a hard time
What about darksteel axe?
some of these cards have gone up a lot online this deck must be the bee's knees
Circle of protection against Artifacts?
The theros Elspeth would be good in this deck
Why don't you add Elspeth?
Awesome intro :D
Love the shit out of you Professor, keep professing.
We are One, We are Many.
Our name is Legion... of tokens.
4:23 0.14 x 4 = 41?
There is no Pauper at my LGS :(
36 cent battle screech... not anymore
Did it go up?
Marco Segura Yes, by quite a lot, up to about $6.
Please professor do pauper elves!!!
Budget highlander deck?
Don't go any deeper into comments, there are "spoilers" for Star Wars VII everywhere. Do go down their.
Do UB Delver!
the original name of the deck is soul sisters
If only we could run goldnight commander in this deck :(
I stopped playing Pauper when they banned Cloudpost killing the Fissure Post deck. No enough combo in pauper to keep me amused in this format.
how to beat this is using 2 turn one ornithopters and on the next turn play ensoul artifact on one of them and attack for 5 on the next turn cast the other one on the other ornithopter and swing in for 10 next turn they die. this is how i won against this deck.

Well, High Tide is from Fallen Empires... And you said it should be BANNED!
