Professor, I just wanted to stop by and thank you for all of your videos. I'm a 34--year woman and only recently got into Magic. My husband has been playing since the beginning and I never understood the appeal until recently. I got into the Pokemon TCG about a year and a half ago and fell in love with it in a big way. I was always a little intimidated by Magic, and the learning curve has been tough, but I'm really starting to enjoy it. I really appreciate how straightforward your videos are, and the production quality is superb. I've been watching some of your older videos on mechanics, tips and tricks, reviews of accessories, etc. and they're all wonderful and informative. I was watching some of your Q&A videos this morning and I was particularly touched by your comment about making Magic more inclusive for women. I've been a gamer all my life (mostly video games, TCGs now!), but I've always felt like something of a stranger in a strange land because I was always surrounded by men. This never bothered me, and my experiences have largely been positive ones, but you're right that we're not always a target demographic. MtG has so many wonderful, diverse characters and I've greatly enjoyed learning about all of them. Anyway, before this turns into an essay, just know you've gained another fan! I plan on contributing to your Patreon soon.
Drake the troll I used to have progenitus but with dominaria I started using jodah. Just fits too well with the deck. Being able to cast maelstrom wanderer for WUBRG is too good to pass up or casting progenitus or an eldrazi titan for at least half the mana with maelstrom nexus on the board giving it cascade makes the deck very threatening very fast but it's a ton of fun like an added bit of randomness into the decks playstyle.
Drake the troll probably not. I took a break during ixalan block since I couldn't afford to buy cards for that period of time so any card from ixalan block I have very little knowledge of except dinosaurs and pirates.
I've tried playing an Azorius variant of this deck, centered more around the esper and bant blades. They also use border posts but the win con is edges of the divinity and steel of the gods, the lorwynn enchants
BTE is easily one of my all-time favorite cards! Along with Borderposts, she enabled one of my favorite budget aggro decks I've ever played. She always did so much work for me when I was playing a lot of budget Magic in my old play group because I didn't have a lot of money to spend. Any time I was ever in Red or Green I was regularly dropping her on T2 and getting 1-2 Borderposts onto the field to fix and ramp into 4-5 mana on T3. I was able to do some good work with a Gruul Bloodrush list often getting really good use out of early Ghor-Clan Rampagers, Wrecking Ogres, and Ogre Battledrivers. Even Pyrewild Shaman was pretty deece as a 2-of because of the acceleration into big smashy bois or even just throwing a hasted 5/1 for 3 at my opponents face every turn is pretty nice.
cak01vej actually pretty well. I run stuff like Abundant Growth and Nylea’s presence but it pays off when I get finishers like tribal flames and macta rioteers that level opponents pretty quickly. Not to mention wild nacatl being a turn 2 3/3 is pretty insane
cak01vej He's not kidding. There are games he's won only cause I played a gain land and then then I had a turn to win before he had burn in his naya deck. It's surprisingly consistent and fun
Been playing this deck for a couple weeks now, and having a lot of fun with it. Managed to crash in against affinity after a board stall and take them from 15 to 0 yesterday. I'm always torn on when to cast Violent Outburst though.
By far my most fun EDH deck is Voltron Radha, Heir to Keld. Most of the surprise best cards in there are pauper-legal anyway -- I think I'll give this one a shot for my first Pauper deck. Thanks, Prof!
Thank you, professor. Great video as always. I've been wanting to play pauper. Had looked a bit at Domain Zoo (had trouble finding good deck techs though), but am definitely gonna give this a try. As I usually play Maelstrom Wanderer in EDH, cascade feels right on ;)
As long as your sticking in the alarm block colossal might would run good in this deck (RG target get +4/+2 and trample) for when you wanna really punch in and also can Cascade into

Funny story Prof. I met you at Card Kingdom a few months back and talked to you about how I had a mediocre pauper deck but your Zombie deck got me back into the format. I was actually playing R/G Cascade but I was new to the format so I didn't know what the most efficient creatures were. I'll try this list and see if I have better results.
Pauper is so fun. My local game store sells commons for 10c no matter the card so a 60 card deck (not including lands) is $6 or $7.50 with full sideboard. Definitely within budget
Already have my version of this deck and its perfect for the price! Just switch the useless Heelcutter for Goblin Freerunner and add Goblin War Drums. Traitorous Blood is also better than Mark of Mutiny. Love to see this deck on TCC! Gruul rule!
I've been looking for a chance to get more value out of Burning-Tree Emissary than just having them pay for each other (getting 3 out on turn 2 is really juicy). Looks like a great deck! I'll be experimenting for sure. But I gotta ask: where the hell are you getting Lightning Bolts for a buck twenty-five? The cheapest I'm seeing are three dollars. Not exactly a dealbreaker, but still.

I built this deck at Alara Reborn prerelease, but better with rares. 3 bloodbraids, 2 maelstrom pulse, 7 borderposts, a bunch of 'blades, and 4 colors. Blades plus borderposts are an awesome synergy.

It is a somewhat stupid question, but how long can this deck be played in standard? I left magic a while ago and I am slowly returning to it. This budget deck seems perfect (powerful enough, fun to play with the kind of mechanics I like) but I wonder if and how long can one still play it in standard.
Florian Abry Some do. Mine runs a common-uncommon format instead. Definitely check out your LGS. If you don't have any luck there, maybe you can convince a few friends to meet every now and then for kitchen table pauper, assembled from whatever chaff your groups already have for maximum savings.
And because all the spells are so cheap anyways, Evolving Wilds also has the benefit of thinning out your deck so that you don't mana flood as much and you draw into more spells.

Why does this deck run Evolving wilds instead of the common tapland (timber gorge)? Both enter play tapped, but the taplands give you greater flexibility down the line, because you have a dual land in play instead of a basic land. Isn't that strictly better if you don't care about the extra card in your graveyard or the deck shuffle?

I spent about $20 just on lightning bolts alone because my lgs only had a playset of foil lightning bolts. I guess that pays for most of the deck. Still under $50 so that a bonus!

Love cascade so much. I have a 5 color cascade EDH deck and nothing is more satisfying than getting a 3+ cascade chain.

rockorg100 found it. Look at a card called release to the wind. It let's you reuse etb cascade effects.

Alara will always be a beloved multicolor block and this Bloodbraid Elf inspired deck tech is an example of why.

Florian Abry This is not a standard deck at all. It will not rotate. You can play it as long as you can find another pauper player near you.
