Love the music. I was there many years ago, but we were on a work assignment for their phone company at the time and never had much time for sight seeing. Need to go back again sometime.
Reminds me so much of all the wonderful times I shared with many friends when I lived on St John and worked at CBP what fun we had. Enjoy life and savor every moment it will be in your heart for ever.
hello how are you? i also work for cbp and have a chance to make it an option before mondays deadline. im single no kids and looking for a change and i think you would be great to talk to in regards to advice about transfering there. is there a way i can talk to you?
Excellent video and brings back memories of when I lived there and married a girl who got there like you with her girlfriend. She went down on vacation and stayed for seven years back in 60's and 70's :-)
I did the same thing in the fall-winter 1994-1995. Worked as a bartender at Bluebeards. Had a blast. Back then you had to be careful not to go to certain places though as it got kind of dangerous. Not sure what it is like now but thanks for posting. Brought back a lot of memories.
This is nice and looks like vacation everyday. But would love to see the other side of it. Meaning the ruff times, hurricanes, etc..Just an overall honest viewpoint. Not just the "goodtime". That place is very beautiful paradise 🌴🏝
Ha! Ha! Ha! I remember doing this. I spent 9-months down there. I lived in Frenchtown with four other guys in a huge house and worked for a jewelry store on the waterfront. It was awesome! Spent every Sunday at Emerald Bay...or the grotto behind our house!!! Absolutely amazing.
You should try the bay islands of Honduras Roatán and Utila and Binaca I been in St Tomas and St Croix and other parts of the Virgin Islands and I got to say the bay islands are one of the most beautiful places I have seen cheap and safe it much cheaper cleaner and Crystal Waters then any Virgin Islands except for St Martin
Hope you made it through the hurricanes ok! Planning on moving next year to St. Thomas ❤ Nevermind just seen you are not currently in the islands. Much love for the vid
I'm still here but it is so hard there are like three good beaches I have to divide on just go to these and pick Lindbergh near the airport Brewers uvi and linqvist smith bay and the other places it's like Magen's but loved by all
+LifeSupportProducts AJBV Hi there! We lived there for a couple of seasons and then continued traveling. I am living in NYC now, and my friend is in Australia :)
+Paul B I actually left the islands to go backpack Europe! St Thomas is such a small place, so once I felt like I absorbed all I could from the experience, I decided to keep on exploring :)
+ Stefanie Hurtado would you ever return back to St Thomas to visit on vacation? I'm a native of that island, move to NJ in 94 for high school, after graduating from 8th grade their in St Thomas after graduating from High School here in NJ 97 I end up staying in the states, seen this video make me miss home more. I hope one day I return for a vacation back in St Thomas.
Absolutely! I have very good friends still living in the islands, and would love to visit them again soon. Especially now, in the depths of winter in the northeast :) I hope you get to visit soon, too!
Thats good. Me too. Theirs notting better than been home especially if its a island lol, your right about the cold, when i first came up here i was so excited to see snow then after while i dont like It anymore and never look forword to it anymore, the cold dont border me that much, but i rather it be warm all year round like the islands lol i guess what comes with living in the States is the cold and snow.
My best friend's dad owned the largest dump truck on St. Thomas during the time they were moving the Eastern mountain to off the end of the runway extending it. His driver was dropping a load off the end, lost control and jumped out just in time to see it sink into the end of the runway. Time, resources, etc dictated that they just keep going. So when you land there, you are landing on a dump truck. December 1989 through Jan 1990 I helped put the flat roof on the new airport terminal. White guys who hired me got fired for fist fighting the day before I came down to take the job, and I spent three days doing nothing, with the exception of checking the caps that held down the flat roof that had already been done. I think I counted 173 that weren't fastend. I told the guy who came down from Florida to take over the job, but he didn't seem concerned. I have no idea if it passed inspection. My family of 6 including 2 of my grandparents were scheduled on the American Airlines flight that crashed on the island in 1976 running into a Shell gas station at the end of the short runway. My mom had a dream, and rescheduled us for a week earlier with all the work and changes made for dad's 3 stores to run for 2 weeks. We were at Magens when it crashed. A call went out for the 2nd most rare blood, AB-, which my father had. My dad said he wasn't taking time out from his vacation to donate blood. Read the karma my dad died to on that island 14 years after that crash, in this book. I've probably been on more cruise ships than anyone reading this, yet never been on a cruise. My dad ran a ship chandlery that had a monopoly on selling liquor to the cruise ships in the early '80s, that I used to spend my afternoons after school doing my homework at, that was located at the last building on the Havensite dock (has Senior Frogs painted on its roof). After growing up on the island and starting when I was 17 in late 1986, we used to roam Charlotte Amalie downtown streets at night bar hopping Coconuts, Rosie O'Grady's, The Ritz, Yesterdays, then to the Greenhouse at 10pm for the current live band, when everyone was partying in the islands. Since the bars closed at 2 AM we would go out to steal cars, usually rentals, and race across the island, afterward sometimes stripping them for parts. I've floored it in a brand new 1987 Accord LXi from the Fort all the way to Frenchtown one night easily doing 100mph, which was not unusual to do with stolen cars but sometimes done even with the ones we sort of cared about. I hold the record for most boats stolen in one night while alone; three - I took them to a birthday party. I know this is probably a weird question but do you know of specific jobs there where they want older people? I'm about to turn 40 and will be looking for a job there when I move. I've owned my own business for almost 15 years so management would be great but I'm not picky as long as I can survive comfortably. Thanks for sharing your experience! I don't know if I'd survive for very long sleeping on a floor but I'm open!!
Locate in Florida, there is plenty of work, yet you are a skip from all these places. A friend of mine has done it and loves it, but I hate humidity, so I'll look north, lol....
been here for seven years. There is no work on St. John unless you're a construction worker. St. Thomas has work but the cost of living is still elevated. St Croix is more reasonable but work is limited. My wife and I have lived on two of the islands and never had trouble locating work. Healthcare, HR, management, and skilled trades(electricians mainly) are in demand. It is difficult to just move here with less than 15k and some support. This is another culture and any ignorance to that is not accepted. The rate of failure for new folks is also very high (85%) which makes employers hesitant to gamble on transplants that have less than two years residency. It is very rare to sucure work before having your feet on the rock. St. Croix is your safest bet for success. Learn all you can before asking questions and do a premove visit.
Question... what is the "Main Beach" the locals like yourself go to? I know for Tourists, it's Megans Bay... but is it the same for you when you were there?
awesome adventure, stefanie! was just thinking of going in a couple weeks but flights are a bit too pricey from norcal this late. anyone know the best time to fly or visit the USVI in general? thanks! daniel
This makes me SO excited!!! I just bought a one way ticket to St Thomas and I couldn't be more eager to go even though it's still 6 months away lol. I'm planning on staying for 6 months too. I would love to get a job on a sailboat! How did you find it?
+Gaby Castellans just by making friends on the island. there are lots of people in the boating community and plenty of sailboats to work on :) good luck!
wow amazing. how did you find the sail boat jobs? just meeting people? We are a couple planning to move there in December and would love a job opportunity like that! what is the name of the sailing company you worked for??
Yes, it's a small island, so meeting people goes a long way! There are plenty of boats around the island that often need crew, so it can be fairly easy to find work. Look into Cruise Ship Excursions and Topsails. Good luck! :)
Truly inspiring! My friend and I spent 2 hours on a phone call last night discussing doing the exact same thing. We need more info on job opportunities and how much rent is. Looking to live there for a year or so. But really awesome video!!! I hope we follow through and go.
rent and food are very expensive, and food doesn't taste good, and there aint no jobs, and its a island of Black people, that you may not be able to avoid
Interesting.. I am from there and tried to move back home and there were NO jobs for me there... NONE. . sad. I had to move far away to be able to have a job.
KevinTubeHD5021 , I'm also a native and born and raised their as well , St Thomas, also known as Rock City. I love my home island and miss it their, but I'm currently living in the states with my family.
I am a Speech Language Pathologist. I just received a job offer there for the school system. Do you have any advice on cost of living, the school system, crime... Anything Would be useful for me! Thanks
If your a person that prefers a more laid back setting, less hustle and bustle. Then St. John or St. Croix. More affordable rental options on St. Croix. Lot more shopping options on St. Thomas. Groceries are expensive everywhere. Try and buy as much from the farmers and fishermen direct and save.
No worries! I initially left the island when I saved up enough to backpack Europe, and then I came back to the states to take different work opportunities and experiences. Now working as a videographer in NYC, but I miss that blue water and dream about it all the time! I'm planning to visit again very soon :)

American mainlanders talk to island Americans like their foreigners. Lol like: "wow how is it over their, the waters must be warm, i wish i could go over seas and stuff" Islanders be like: 0_o Jk Im Irish having a buzz :D
The good no tax, drink at 18 years old, good whether, nice beaches most places close at 9:00 except bars and clubs and some restaurants, slow paced. The bad it is expensive, most places close at 9:00, some places can be dangerous at night. That all I can think of right know and our accent will take some getting use to? Hope this help let me know if you need more information
Hahah that's okay! It makes me crazy looking back, too! I made this video in 2012 and have since learned a lot about camera tech. I'm actually working as a videographer in NYC now---go figure! I'm looking forward to going back to St Thomas soon to visit friends, and making a higher-quality video of island life :)
Memories worked for atlantis submarine, , in 2003 to 2006 . Great video Im hoping to take my wife for vacation there soon. Cheers

I am a Speech Language Pathologist. I just received a job offer there for the school system. Do you have any advice on cost of living, the school system, crime... Anything Would be useful for me! Thanks
It Varies depending on which island your staying on.

Hey I’m gonna be moving there soon for a job and I’m looking for affordable apartments! Any recommendations?
Can anyone tell me how's the weather there in January, my wife and I planing to go there on January?
The weather is beautiful in January! It can get a bit windy, but that's all :)
Those and Magen's are the best but locals huh I guess locals would say Brewers and 2nd best tourist attraction is Lindbergh
Hey, not sure if you have answered this but why did you decide to leave and return to the mainland?
Sorry if this has already been asked....
No worries! I initially left the island when I saved up enough to backpack Europe, and then I came back to the states to take different work opportunities and experiences. Now working as a videographer in NYC, but I miss that blue water and dream about it all the time! I'm planning to visit again very soon :)
Stefanie Hurtado that's awesome!! Just the fact that you took a chance and moved there says a lot about you!
Good luck in NYC, just a tad bit different then the sunny sky's of the USVI ;)
Amazing! Thinking of doing the same.... how did you find housing?
just exploring the island and asking around!
Any good surf spots there?
Why did you leave and move back to the mainland?
I left the island to backpack Europe for a few months, came back to visit family, went back to St Thomas the following winter, and then returned to the states again to start pursuing career goals. I loved my experience in the islands, but couldn't see myself staying long term.
Do you still live in the islands?
no, I live in NYC now :)

+Paul K haha yes that beer is great! but coors and corona were always a bit cheaper :)
wow your beautiful what opportunities are for americans?
St. Thomas is a U.S. territory so it's pretty much the same except that you're on an island
gotcha
Joseph Broseph haha miss ya bub
I love st Thomas but I don't drink coors light.
How bad is the gang violence in St Thomas?
I live here and I can say it's really pretty bad. St Thomas had the one of the highest murder rates per capita in the world. But don't let that scare you because as long as you stay away from the drugs and gangs you're not going to be involved in sensless violence
Thanks, I know St Thomas is BEAUTIFUL, but just did not like the gang mentality I saw there......and that was 15+ years ago. Enjoy though!!! Cheers.
Steven Meyer Cheers! :)

Cool vid but y'all not living there
I lived there for a while, and have gone back and forth over the years, but now live in NYC. This video was made in 2012.
I would normally subscribe to your channel, but you can't seem to hold the camera steady. Makes me crazy.
Amazing video ladies! I'm flying over to St. T on Nov 13 through Nov 18 (2018), to interview for a police officer job. Wish me luck!
Step one: be a young attractive female.
This is why I don't go there
