Sennheiser HD280 Pros Vs HD380 Pros

  • If you're a drummer an are looking for a sub $200 pair of headphones, the Sennheiser HD280s and 380s are the best headphones for the money. The sound quality and outside sound blocking is great too! The advantages of the HD380 Pros over the HD280s is that it's more comfortable and the headphone cable is easier to replace. The sound is also slightly better, but really, those are the two main advantages. The 280s can't be counted out, the sound incredible and are great for blocking out the sound of hitting those rubber pads. Both are great, I prefer the 380 Pro's.

    My 380 Pro headband started shedding padding after about 5 years of nearly daily use. I was able to get replacement headband pads and earpads from Sennheiser and they were easily replaced. Just FYI.

    Thanks for the info Justin , I bought the 280 pro a few weeks ago for $100 and was kinda wishing that I had went ahead and spent the extra $50 but when I got them they sounded great and now that I've seen this review , I don't feel like I should have bought the 380s anymore. Thanks.

    I've not heard the 380s, but I got the 280s and they've been perfect for my purpose - soloing channels at the front of house. They came in second in Dave Rat's headphone quest (he mixed the Chili Peppers and a ton of other bands.) I had a friend who made a replacement pad for my 280s out of suede and lambswool. I replaced the connector and the ear pads, but the basic mechanism of the 280s is incredibly rugged.

    Totally agree. I started using the 280's back in 2007 and never looked back. I used them until about 2 years ago when I finally sprung the the cost for some nice in-ears. And make no mistake, the 280's sound much better than the in-ears... I went with in-ears for aesthetics and comfort in my videos. The 280's were an "accidental" find for me too, but what a great accident! I highly recommend them. Great review.

      I went for the Westone UM-Pro 30's. Another good find, I think. They have multiple inserts to choose from in the package, which include isolation inserts. Low end response is not as good as Sennheiser 280's, but it's decent... and probably just about as good as low end response can get on an in-ear. Unless maybe I start looking into the $1000+ in-ears... but nah... that's okay. haha!

    "I CY" that made my morning 😂😂
    I bought the 380 Pro headphones and found that when testing them, along with some KRK headphones that their sound signatures are very subjective. It really depends on how you interpret sound. Love my 380s though, so clear

    Hi Justin, When I play live I also need to hear the band so I use a pair of Bose open headphones and I also use a feed from the mixing desk to my line IN on my TD-30 module so I can also hear the vocals, I like how with the TD-30 you can configure the line in to just go the headphones. Perhaps you may want to look into that topic as well. Like the channel, good info, well presented, Keep up the good word.

    Hey Justin, I just received the 280's from Amazon last week and I've been testing them out a bit. I love the sound quality! I'm not as crazy about how tightly they grip your head, but it's tolerable. What's driving me nuts though is the cable!! It hangs with what feels like 5 pounds of weight on the side of your head while you're trying to play the drums, and makes it impossible to turn your head. So far, the only relief I've found is from wrapping the cable around to my opposite shoulder and letting it (my shoulder) support the weight of the cord. But unfortunately, it slips off after a few minutes of playing. My question for you is... what do YOU do with the cable to make playing enjoyable (or even possible)?? Did you do the "surgery" and install a different cord? Thanks man! Great channel too! :)

    • @gustavogiacominpinho3987
      @gustavogiacominpinho3987 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Perhaps you can try attaching a small clip to the cable, and then to the back of your shirt or something? That might help

  • @nicolaupoceiro7570
    @nicolaupoceiro7570 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not as bass heavy as the 280's, hehe. Many people complain that they lack bass.
    How did you manage to break the headband after just one year? Mine lasted for 7 years. And after 8 years the ear pads fell apart. Luckily one can replace all of that, although it took me hours to get the new ear pads on.
    I noticed that Sennheiser are trying to hide the 280's these days so that people buy the almost twice as expensive 300's instead.
    I think I will buy a spare unit of the 280's before Sennheiser pulls the plug on them. They should last until I die.

    Hello, I realized that there are two models of the HD280 PRO, there is this model ( www.quantastore.com.br/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/s/e/sennheiser-hd280-pro.jpg ), and there is the new model, with a different aesthetic (the one you showed at 0:50 ). There seems to be a difference in the foam from above, and in some other things. Can you tell me if there is any technical or comfort difference between the two models? I have not met many people on the internet commenting on the fact that there are two models of this HS. Thank you.

    the 280's sound far more powerful IMO overall than the 380's because of the SPL but you can use the 380's far longer without fatigue because of the lack of SPL. I used the 280's for years but they finally broke and I replaced them with the 380's expexting and upgrade. The 280's overall are my pick because of the SPL and the power that comes along with it as well as the higher impedance. the details with the 280's are as exactly as the reviewer said. You notice details alot easier with the 280's whereas the 380's are more user friendly. The first thing that comes to mind is the Stones track "Can You Hear Me Knocking". There are background voices in the beginning of the track that you probably never heard using a set of mediocre headphones. BTW I listen to my audio an a PC equipped with an ASUS Xonar Essence STX with upgraded op amps. "Choice! If you have the means, I highly recommend it." (Ferris Beuller quote)

    Why don't you just use acoustic drums?

      But have you tried both of these Sennheiser headphones with an electronic drumset?

    Has anyone tried the Roland RH-300-V headphones? It is supposed to be for V-drums. They also have a RH-300 model that is for everything else. They are Roland's flagship headphones. Very overpriced as with all Roland products.

      Not a big fan of the roland headphones, although I haven't tried the module you mentioned

    I've had the 380's and they had a huge bump around 2k. Really comfortable but very harsh to listen to. For that price i'd go with audio technica, but that's just me :D
