It really is so pretty, I love it. I think because I have known this story for such a long time I always assumed unicorns to be female, but now you mention it, they are quite often male.
I am born in 82 the year the movie was released. Watched it a lot growing up. Just gone reading the book. Glad I did. I am Schmendrick the magician. The last of the Red Hot Swamis!
Okay, I'll read it. I should be working on another haul for YA books at the end of this year, or sometime next year, so I'll add this book to that list and see what I can do about getting it all sooner. It's pretty late in the year to be able to do the same as the first haul (290 books), but I'll see what I can buy and figure it out from there.
Loved seeing this! I adore The Last Unicorn, both the film and the book (I haven't gotten around to reading the comic adaptation yet). I love how they both work as both a standard fantasy quest story and as a mediation on aging and regret (although the movie loses a bit of that without Schmendrick's "I'm older than I look" subplot). I loved the way Beagle dealt with those themes in The Innkeeper's Song as well, but I think this one is almost more interesting by virtue of being more of a children's story, since the more mature setting makes those themes seem more immediate, whereas in TLU it's less overt which I thought made it more poetic, almost.
Where did you get your copy of the original book? (the one sporting an old fashioned cover) I've checked Amazon.com but I think the price is a bit much x
The Graphic novel looks beautiful! I'll need to get that at some point for sure 😍😍 I like that the unicorn is a female. They usually make them males

Jadeyraereads I always assume they're male but probably because that's how I have seen them presented as hah

How many books do you read in a month?
Completely depends on the month, but on average, probably 6 or 7
