    From what I gather, you can get away with renewing your IDL and driving in Italy; without getting an Italian license. You can renew your AAA IDL by mail too. It's technically not legal but I know of several people who have done it.

    Tricky tax question. Let’s say before you sold your home in US you decided to rent first Italy and after a year of living in Italy you deciding to stay permanently And you decide to sell your home in US. Will Italy tax that home sale?

    • @salvesalento
      @salvesalento  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I am not sure - but to be safe the year I sold my home I wouldn’t spend over 183 days in Italy just to be safe

      23%
      €15,001 - €28,000
      25%
      €28,001 - €50,000

      @@shajiphi1326 residency is based on calendar year you can switch to a non tax paying resident max 183 days and spend your other half in the US or somewhere else. US residents always file taxes in the United States and you are eligible for a foreign tax credit when you do file.

      Very very interesting. Sounds like one should take their money out of the 401k while still in US to pay the much lower American taxes. Instead of the crazy 43%. Do you agree with this strategy?

    • @salvesalento
      @salvesalento  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think leaving your money in the US and just not spending over 183 days in Italy is better - if you’re retired you can spend time in other places also and not worry about taxes at all

    "According to the EU regulation, to introduce animals in Italy from third countries, among which the United States, it is mandatory to obtain a European Community veterinary certificate for each pet that will be introduced in the Member States." did you need this or is it new?

    • @salvesalento
      @salvesalento  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes this is exactly what we got from our local Banfield that has the veterinary certification. It needs to be done immediately before you are scheduled to leave for Europe.

    I wanted to ask you didn't you take a big risk buying instead of renting the first year at least? because what if the area is not what you expected?
