I’m 70 this song came out when I was in middle school, I’m an avid reader and I knew that a black lady wrote the song so it was a treat seeing Ms Nadine in this video. God bless her and I thank her.
Such a legendary song. Wonderful to meet this beautiful, gifted songwriter. May her words indeed reach the moon, perfectly expressed in the great Donny Hathaway's voice.
Thank you Ms. Nadine for giving that silky soul singer Donny the lyrics!! Who knew? This has been my favorite Christmas song since I was a child. And yes, this song is the Black Christmas Anthem!! I heard this on the radio the other day! But I will say I only like Donny’s version. Merry Christmas Ms. Nadine!!!!
Miss Nadine, I wish you a safe, healthy recovery. I know you'll "Get up, and Kick butt." All the best to you and yours "This Christmas." Thank you for your beautiful song. Christmas isn't Christmas without it.
"This Christmas" is a song by American soul musician Donny Hathaway released in 1970 by Atco Records. The song gained renewed popularity when it was included in 1991 on Atco Records' revised edition of their 1968 Soul Christmas compilation album and has since become a modern Christmas standard, with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers reporting that it was the 30th most-performed holiday song of all time. Phil Upchurch said the song was "absolutely the premiere holiday song written by an African American". It was written by Hathaway and Nadine McKinnor.
Reports indicate she has endured two mild strokes in November 2023 and October 2024, depleting all her savings as her health issues have intensified. Her family is struggling to afford the additional care she urgently requires. Having been immobile for over a year, she requires specialized equipment to restore function to her left leg. It appears that the $70,000 in annual royalties might be insufficient.
It is truly an incredible story. I actually heard this story from a co-worker friend back in the early 90s. My former coworker had worked for the post office in Chicago and told me this exact story and how this song was written one day during the songwriter's lunch break. So now more than 30 years later, it's pretty cool to actually "meet" this woman.
The fact that our model is an older guy delivering mail wearing shorts for this Christmas piece has me in stiches! 😂 Everytime I hear this song I think of the Martin episode when he was supposed to take Gina on a bus trip to go see her parents. Thank you Lady! ❤
I hope she is getting the royalties. This song has sold millions of albums . We listen to it starting in October and sometimes in Summer. My other special is Chris Rea's DRIVING HOME FOR CHRISTMAS.
A Delightful video. I wonder how many other songs were composed and the original writer didn't get credit My mother wrote the song. MISTY BUT WAS NEVER GIVEN CREDIT.
😊👍🏾🎶🎶nice , congrats to the writer Ms. McKinnor to the Hathaway family ain't nothing like the original song This Christmas 👍🏾 . I have my copy on a record.

Christina Aguilera does a fabulous rendition and probably an unknown we don’t know about.
@@LaughterandJesus Hers doesn't even come close. I doubt any White singer could match Donny Hathaway's version whether male or female.
No one, that I have heard!!
@@LaughterandJesus I think Chris Brown did a fabulous job in the movie “This Christmas” ❤❤❤❤❤

Wow!
🎉
Wow you just never know who people truly are?.
Wouldn’t be great if Donny Hathaway’s daughter Laylah were to do a remake of that song?
She did. It was done as a duet with Donny like Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole's Unforgettable duet was done.
Glory❤
This Most Definitely get played in Blacks Family household!!!
