As a Pit Bull type dog owner I want to thank you for being realistic and honest. Not everyone should own a Shepherd Type, not everyone should own a Pit Bull type etc. People need to set their ego and emotions aside and be real with what is a good fit for them and their environment and what level of interaction and training they are realistically capable of. There are breed specific behaviors 100% and some people are incapable of dealing with them. These animals are no joke and people need a reality check.

Yep. Can't love genetics away, you have to understand what you're getting and manage them accordingly. -- I got a Corso a year ago and knew I really had to level up if I wanted this breed. (which I certainly have) She's great and so easy to train. But if you don't understand that territory is Everything to this breed you're likely to have a disaster on your hands.

If everyone in the family can manage the family dog every other human/ beast will be ok because the dog is managed responsibly all the time. I see families where one family member can handle the dog but everyone else can't and that leaves a big window of opportunity for something bad to happen when that one person is away. Also, sometimes the one who can handle the dog is in denial when the other members complain about not being able to control the dog on their own

People also need to absolutely stop making children responsible for dogs. It's ok to have them help, but if you bring a dog into your home, you as the adult need to be the primary care taker.
I was at the park yesterday with my puppy. She's 12 weeks and we are working on socialization. The park was unusually busy and we were hanging back trying to keep her away from all the commotion allowing her to adjust and settle. But it became apparent we needed to leave. As I'm telling my son we have to go, some kid (Maybe 10?) Walks up with her pocket bully on a leash. But she let her dog get right in my dogs face. Fortunately Ivy stayed chill, but I could tell she wasn't happy about it. And she started to jump for him. I picked her up and walked away and told the kid to not let her dog approach anyone or any dog without permission. Had she not been a kid I'd have gone off.
My dog is a Corso, had she been bigger her dog could have gotten hurt.
I wad like where is your mother/father and why do they think its ok for a kid to walk a dog in a park full of kids. Bad idea

It is not helpful to use the word "aggressive", they likely weren't aggressive at all. People then think they are in the clear as long as their dogs aren't "aggressive", not many dogs show themselves to be aggressive. The reason pitbulls and similar dogs end up in headlines is simply because they are "capable", when something happens and they attack- whether they are triggered to be predatory or feel threatened and turn defensive or whatever (which absolutely any dog can), they make headlines because the damage that follows is significant. Calling them aggressive just totally misses the point, I'm sure they were not.

When I was growing up we had a pitbull. He was a great dog. One day he growled at my brother who was two. He did not see the next meal at our house. We took him to the vet who had expressed he just loved him and if we ever needed to rehome, he would take him. The man had some foresight. Fast forward i adopted a lab mix from the shelter. Later i found she had been a return. She was fearful and was agressive anytime another dog barked at her, came home snd twice tore up my older dog. One morning, she woke up and went nuts again, unprovoked, I got bitten, the other dog was bitten. That was it. We euthanized her that day. The vet later told me he had been scared of her.....why did he stay silent? This has been a great talk and i so wish more trainers would be this open and honest.

It’s actually not true that they were guilted into getting the pitbulls. Although you’re right that is the most likely scenario, especially considering shelters these days. But the father actually got them from a breeder as puppies, and seemed to enjoy the aggressive characteristics, calling them “house lions”. He spoke out against breed specific legislation, and was seemingly very naive about it. He just didn’t think they would attack his family. But they did.

That's exactly how it should be ! When I was a kid, my grandfather had pitbulls and ALLLL I wanted to do was stay outside & play with them or bring them out for walks one at a time. My gram NEVER allowed me to go out in that yard alone. And anytime I was out there, my grandfather had a gun ready.. I never understood it when I was a kid. The dogs were completely friendly, loved me and "I" never even thought about one of them attacking me.. After growing up around so many different dogs though, I understand now.. no matter what, you never know what a dog may decide to do at any given time.. All I would have taken was one of those dogs being in a bad mood, maybe pissed off at another dog it couldn't get to & decide to grab me instead. Because it's going to release that energy/aggression SOMEHOW. For the record though, I've still never been attacked or bitten by ANY pitbulls !! I've had nothing but good experiences, aside from a few dog scraps here & there. But too many people have had horrible experiences with them because of lousy owner's..

Numbers don’t lie!! Why do pitbulls kill or maim so much more than other large, dangerous breeds? Because it’s what they were biologically selected to do. As I said in another comment, it’s not fair to the dogs. It’s like not letting a bird fly; it’s an innate, biological drive that WE created in them. And what outlet can we possibly give them to allow them to exhibit those behaviors in a safe way?? People need to face reality here. I’m sure there are responsible owners who would be capable of keeping well-bred pits, but those people and those dogs are few and far between. Something has got to give.

I worked for specialty, emergency hospitals and Animal Control as a licensed veterinary technician. My career spanned close to 20 years, and I have worked with almost every breed at some point. We need to be able to evaluate a dog’s behavior in 5 min or less; especially shelter dogs where we had to walk out to the kennels take them out of their runs with no assistance and bring them in to see the veterinarian. There are breed traits, which can also be exacerbated by being in a shelter or hospital environment. I have seen veterinarians and veterinary staff attacked. I have also seen COUNTLESS dog attacks by all breeds, seen COUNTLESS dogs die from dog attacks, and have seen owners who have been attacked from trying to break up fights especially at dog parks. I have also seen an owner who was a “repeat offender” ( a cop) who owned FIVE female pits who always fought. He brought in three the first time and two weeks later he brought just two and had pepper sprayed them to stop the fight, and we had to take care of them after being pepper sprayed. So breed traits and behavior IS REAL, and it can be very dangerous.

I agree. No dog should be left unsupervised with little kids, no matter what breed. I recently saw a video where they showed a toddler hitting the dog in the face to demonstrate how good their pitbull was with little ones. They are actually training the dog and kid for an attack.

@@damaristighe3227 I can tell you did not watch the video. The mother was right there when the pit bulls started killing the children. She tried with all her might to stop the mauling. STOP victim blaming !
HERE is the difference between a pit bull attack and other dog attacks. The average dog will stop when reprimanded. Pits are relentless once they choose their target.
It’s not jaw strength. It’s about their relentless explosive attacks that don’t stop until they kill it or they are killed. It’s called gameness. It’s what Pits were bred to do. Get a book and read up so you can stop embarrassing yourself.
Pit bulls do not lock their jaws, but due to their "gameness" trait, they rather die than to let go. This trait ensures success in the dog-fighting ring. They have a wide jaw structure (it appears they are smiling) and are able to breath/pant while hanging onto their victim's flesh; to ultimately wear down their opponents. The panting allows pit bulls not to overheat so their chances of "winning" during the fight increases. These pit bull breed traits supersede any other dog breeds' bite pressure.

From a pro pit bull org! Two words to prove pit bull type-dogs are inherently dangerous: "BREAK STICK".
Does this sound like a normal and safe dog breed to have live in our neighborhoods? Pit Bull Rescue Central recommends ALL pit bull owners to have a "break stick", a wedge-shaped piece of wood used to pry open a pit bull’s jaw during an attack. "Since pit bulls have a strong fighting background, we recommend that pet owners also have a breaking stick as a precaution." When you need a precautionary tool for your dog, it's not a safe family pet.

This honestly scares me to death. I have a female pit bull around 80 lbs. She's almost 3 yrs old and I've had her since she was about 12 weeks old. I've worked and worked with her since the day i got her. She is very well behaved in the house and outside. However, she's not perfect, she does have a high prey drive, likes to chase neighbors cats, and gets into small fights with my 11 yr old dachshund. In the fights, there is never any latching on to each other or blood. It is more like just squabbles, a lot of noise over bones, toys, or areas in the house. When this happens, i usually just say a word or two that she knows i mean business and the fighting stops. However, i still never leave them in the same room when nobody is home. I don't believe she would ever hurt my little dog, but never hurts to use caution. I guess what im getting at is, I am definitely not the right "type"of person to own these dogs. ( 130 lb female) But so far she has been a really good dog. But i see so much about these dogs just losing it and hurting someone. Am i supposed to get rid of her or euthanize her just bc others of the same breed have done awful things. Even though she's been a good dog. It's just all very confusing and scary.

Is that a rhetorical question? No , imo you don’t get rid of your dog because you hear or read scary stories.
I think if you know the nature of the beast, so to speak, that gives you insight into how she is internally wired and manage/train accordingly. ( which you seem to be doing,, not leaving your dogs together etc )Although ( NON expert advice here) I would remove items they resource guard to avoid major conflict between them given the size discrepancy and especially meaty bones because imo it triggers something primal in dogs . ( can you give them your them in separate areas, then after a good chew , remove the bones altogether?)
Look, if you’re worried, you can always contact a reputable trainer, for assessment, management strategies and training ,because getting rid of your pit probably is a death sentence for her at a shelter .
Getting a knowledgeable trainer would perhaps help the new ? anxiety you have over your Pit.

I could never get rid of her unless she hurt a child or another animal. Even then, it would break my heart. It's just confusing bc there are some good ones that never hurt anything but yet we are made to feel we shouldn't have them. Made to feel that they will eventually just snap and do horrible things. I was sitting on a bench in the foyer of my vet's office a few years ago...my cat was silent, in a hard plastic carrier next to me. A woman and little boy age 4(?) entered the clinic with a lovely tan & white female pit mix on leash. Their dog was alert, quiet but calm, and well-behaved....sat by the lady's side as she talked to the receptionist. I was people and critter-watching....
Suddenly, I saw a total change in body posture of the pretty pit mix, she locked her eyes and whole focus on the cat carrier next to me. My old cat hadn't meowed or anything.... I think the dog just caught his scent....really mind boggling, she was now animated and straining at the leash. I moved the carrier slowly farther away and braced myself....luckily, the dog was taken to the back by staff. If the owner's little boy picked up a neighbor's cat near that dog, I don't want to think what would happen. As a lifelong animal handler, it was one of the most disturbing body language shifts I ever saw...

I am so so glad that you are taking this approach. Families with young children should not have these kinds of dogs. Even if the dog is well trained, it is still a dog, and it isn't just the big dogs. There are many dog breeds, especially nervous terriers that will be problematic with children. The people that disagree are the people that say, I buy my dog all of these toys, but once he gets the squeaker out, he won't play with it anymore. Do they even understand why a squeak toy is so popular? No. Unless they have rat dogs and live on farm. If they watched just one video about rat dogs in action, they would see the dog pick up a rat, shake it, and it squeaks like a toy. And then, you'll see two dogs pulling a rat apart, and playing tug of war, and you'll understand why the rope toy is popular. But when we saw dogs doing this kind of behavior, we think it's cute and funny.
Unfortunately, these behaviors are hardwired: certain breeds more than others. But if you have very young children squealing and laughing or crying, that can sound like a prey animal to a dog; like a rat, or a rabbit. My friend many years ago used to babysit for a family with a large do, and a 3 year old. One weekend when she wasn't babysitting, the dog attacked and mauled the year old. The child lived, but basically needed facial reconstruction, over 100 stitches. The father killed the dog; but it was this same situation; if you take a large dog with a very powerful bite and mix it with terrier, it isn't safe around a baby, no matter.
I totally agree with you about training, and long leads. I usually have shepherds or sheepdogs. My last and current dogs are Shelties. I think a Sheltie is also a good bet for a family dog. I've seen my previous dog do absolutely nothing, when my toddler used his back to pull himself up. The only problem this dog has around children, is that he will herd them. Poodles are a good, I grew up with one. But they can be highstrung. I would never have another one.

I have always adopted from animal shelters and have found the best dogs. People think that shelters only have dogs filled with pit bull types or other dangerous breeds. That's a myth or huge misconception. People relinquish animals for other reasons such as time constraints, affordability, relocating, etc. I have seen purebreds, small breeds, and breeds with non-aggressive temperaments. Once I was a service-dog trainer, I was able to select dogs from the local shelters. There are responsible/reputable animal shelters and humane societies that provide temperament evaluations, have trainers on-site, and provide post-adoption support. You just need to find out if they provide those services and review their temperament evaluation and medical notes on the animal.

I live in the area where these recent attacks in Tennessee happened. Everything you said about shelters pushing “pit bull” type dogs is absolutely true! The shelters here are loaded with them. The do push them. Numerous rescues pull them out of shelters and sell them for exorbitant adoption fees. One of my dogs was attacked by one of these rescues.

@APBT The Best nice try. Notice you don't deny anything I said. Other than you didn't like my word choice. I grew up with these dogs. I've seen the ugly side of the breeds history. If people fully understood what a typical pitbull terrier mix is today. They wouldn't let them into their homes. Rescues are profiting off of these people by picking up animals at shelters for nothing, then selling them for profit.
I really hope someone helps rehab the breed. I just don't buy the Rescue hype. Frankly, I think it's dangerous.

    • @cjfishtales2238

@APBT The Best yeah, that's unfortunate. That rhetoric isn't going to help your cause. You sound like a breeder. Hopefully, if you are, you are selecting stable temperament for breeding. There are a lot of good qualities in the breed. Honesty about the breeds history is required to save it. I believe it's possible to produce pit bull terriers that are reliable farm dogs and companions. I believe that can only be done by ethical breeders dedicated to the breed. Rescues are generally not helpful for the reputation of the breed.

While I agree that children should always be supervised around dogs, there are MANY breeds that have NEVER killed a human being. In my opinion, if your dog can’t be trusted not to maul your children to death, it’s not a domesticated animal. Period.
I purposefully chose a dog breed that has never killed a human, and is extremely gentle. I’ve seen this at work, with a child who was abusive with him, and his only response was to try to run away. He didn’t growl or bark, let alone bite or maul. This horrible tragedy could have been entirely avoided if they had chosen one of these breeds.

Did you know in Europe that the golden retriever is in the top 5 dogs with biting incidents? So sorry, but ANY dog can bite.
My 13 year old golden retriever has never bitten, did not even bark during his ENTIRE life. Recently he had pain, went to the vet and for the first time in his life, he had this amount of pain that he growld. So, nope, sorry, any dog can bite and not a single dog, no matter the breed, should be left alone with kids. It is OUR responsability to protect our children AND our dogs. Please link the last time a poodle mauled a child. If it’s more than a year, it’s a freak accident. I can list multiple pitbull attacks just within the past week.

    • @coch2370

Also- I would never have a GR or a lab or really any large dog in my home with small children. They can do too much damage in a very short time. My little cavapoo is the most gentle thing on earth, and both of his breeds have never killed a human. I’ve never seen a poodle or a cavalier King Charles mauling. I have heard of Labrador and GR maulings, although especially GR maulings are rare. If you can link a poodle mauling within the last 5 years, I’ll concede.
Personally, I wouldn’t even have a cocker spaniel around children, due to their “cocker rage syndrome” in certain colors with males.
I don’t think it’s right to take any chances with dogs around children. I’m sure I would be very cautious even with my dog that has a zero percent death rate around an infant. I also think it’s important not to pretend that having a poodle around a child and having a pit or rottie around a child is at all similar. It’s not.

Thank you! I was screaming inside my head & fighting the urge to interact with people making dumb comments the first time I read about this. I 100% agree. NO WAY there was “no sign” of any problem or aggression. Just no way. Dogs don’t just attack with no warning. These people just either couldn’t or wouldn’t see the reality of their dogs behavior issues &/or temperament. Working in the doggy daycare industry I found one of the biggest issues with dog owners is people are delusional (or just not being honest with themselves) about the reality of their dogs behavior issues &/or temperament.
There are also way too many people out there with dogs they simply cannot handle. Too big, too powerful, too high energy, too stubborn, etc. I also volunteered at a no kill shelter taking the dogs for “walks” (they were actually really hikes) before I started working in the dog daycare industry. 90% of the dogs up for adoption were what would be considered a pit bull, back then. It’s probably still similar.
And what you’re talking about isn’t actual service dogs, they call them “emotional support animals”. Actual service dogs & the people who rely on them have their lives made more difficult by these fake service dogs. Very few dogs have the right temperament to be a real service dog. Emotional support animals have a vest & a bought BS certificate. That’s it’s. If you can’t get on a plane without your cat, maybe flying isn’t for you. If you can’t travel without your mini pony, maybe being a member of society isn’t for you.

I walk my big dogs and I know one day I’ll run into them on a walk they will eventually let go of leash and I’ll have to defend myself and my dogs by any means necessary. I hate walking my dogs and coming up to dogs off leash running around coming at me- which has happened.

Pitbull/American Pit bull terriers are a type of bull and terrier a mix of bulldog and terrier. In 1898, Chauncey Bennett founded the United Kennel Club, and the first dog registered was Bennett's Ring, who was registered under the breed title American pit bull terrier, making him the first dog recognized as an APBT.
      Bull Terrier established 1885, AKC.
American pit bull terrier established 1898 UKC.
Staffordshire bull terrier established 1935 Kennel Club of England.
Staffordshire Terrier established,1936 AKC became American Staffordshire Terrier in 1972.
      American Bully established 2004 ABKC.
Working pit bulldog established 2015 ADBA.
Before the breed had been given the title American pit bull terrier, people would mostly refer to them as bulldogs.
Still to this day, you'll hear old dogmen call American pit bull terriers bulldogs.
With the American Pit bull terrier being a mix of bulldog and terrier, they possess the traits of both bulldogs and terriers.
Terriers were used to hunt fox, badger, groundhog, and other burrowing animals. They were also used as pest control around farms as well as for sports like ratting.
Digging for what could be hours and then going head, first down a hole with an angry badger or fox, waiting at the bottom is a difficult task.
Look at real working hunting terriers, and you will see dogs that might be missing their nose, lips, ears, and sometimes eyes.
Think about what's being asked of these dogs and then ask yourself what traits these dogs must possess in order to accomplish the types of tasks that their given. Powerful, explosive, relentless, determination, and gameness, I don't know.
How about you research breeds like the jagdterrier, Patterdale terrier, Border terrier, and Texas Guthrie terrier, and then you can tell me what traits terriers possess and why that is.
Bulldogs are what's called a griping breed because they have been bred to grip and hold as this is what's required of a dog tasked with the job of a catch dog.
Bulldogs were used for bull and bear batting until the activity became illegal in 1835, but people learned that dogs who got ahold of the bull (usually by the face) and didn't let go had the best chances of survival.
This led to people breeding dogs that had a tendency to bite and hold. Once they started getting dogs, that would hold a bite consistently they would teach the dog where to bite through a process called schooling.
This is how what's known as a butcher's dog was created.
Butchers would use these dogs to catch and hold livestock that had been selected for slaughter.
Farmers would also use these dogs to capture livestock that had escaped, or when farmers had to deal with more aggressive livestock, they'd have a dog hold them.
American pit bull terriers were bred for dog fighting, and that's the truth, but not all of them are good at it. They don't all have the drive to do it, and they don't all have the same ability to hold a bite or continue fighting despite being injured, tired, or overheated.
American pit bull terriers don't just naturally all want to fight to the death or even engage in a fight in the first place.
Dog fighting dogs are conditioned to be prepared for every aspect of the fight.
I know that you have done some research, but either you didn't go in-depth while researching, or you're picking and choosing bits and pieces to fit a narrative rather than share the knowledge in its entirety.
American pit bull terrier are catch dogs that are used for hunting hogs, and they make some of the best catch dogs.
Hog hunting is physically demanding hard work that requires a dog to be conditioned for the hunt.
You can't just assume that because a dog is a pitbull that it's going to be able to do the job of a catch dog, and the same goes for a dog that is used for illegal fighting.
The dogs don't overheat because they have been conditioned to work in the heat, not because they have a mouth shaped like it is.
All dogs can breathe through their noses, and that means they can all breathe while they have something in their mouth.
There are many breeds that can bite and hold American pit bull terriers are just a little bit better at it.
A dog aggressive dog that seems to enjoy attacking other dogs and has succeeded in killing a few of the dogs that it's attacked, many not be game at all.
      Aggression doesn't equal game.
      Killer instinct doesn't equal game.
High pain tallorance doesn't equal game.
Willingness to fight doesn't equal game.
      Gameness: 1, 2, 3
Fighting from the bottom with the same enthusiasm as if on top and wanting to continue the fight after losing round after round and have been given an opportunity to quit after each round.
Wanting to reach the top of the ladder enough to continue climbing from the bottom after a fall from near the top shattered, both knees, but the mind sees possibilities since the arms are in one piece.
Making a scratch on hour 3 with no chance of victory.

Great video. So true. Your advice if taken, will save so many dogs and kids from potentially dangerous situations.
When my son was little, the dogs that worried me most, were the ones that had an owner saying don't worry about their child loving dog. I always thought those people were insane not to realize a dog is a dog. I trust exactly no dog completely around young kids.
Btw, I am not an inexperienced dog owner. I have had and been around dogs my whole life without traning issues. However, my current dogs have been quite challenging to train. I want you to know that I've gotten such good advise from some of your videos. You changed my mind about some things as well. Thank you.

I doubt you will ever see this comment, but I will make it anyway. I am going through your course and I keep (thankfully) getting notifications about your YT videos. I have been a trainer of people and their pet dogs for 17 years. I always emphasize before I take on an aggressive dog of any size or breed, that there are no guarantees. There is training and there is management. I tell people that there is no trainer on earth who can change a dog’s temperament. I also tell people that there is no magic pixie dust to sprinkle on their dogs to make them different. I tell people it really is not dog training but “people training.” If the owner does not change, the dog won’t change. I am super careful about telling people the truth before we start working together. This makes me a terrible salesperson. It’s hard to sell people when you explain that making changes is going to be work. No one wants to work and no one wants to be patient in order to learn handling skills. I have been sharing your videos with clients who are “suddenly” having problems with their dogs being aggressive again. After a while they stop hearing me, (an old woman) but my hope is that they will hear a younger, stronger, experienced man such as yourself tell them that they need to beware when their dog tells them they (Dog) have a problem. People come to me and work at improving their skills/relationships with their dogs. Then they get bored or busy and they drift off. They forget. They let things slide. They let things get out of control. They start taking their dogs to DOG PARKS! Even though they heard me tell them over and over that dog parks were a very bad place for their dogs. They start leaving their kids alone with the dog when they are not home. They start not paying any attention. And then they text me asking why their dog is doing scary things. Thank you for putting this info out here! You have no idea how thrilled I am with your book, your course and your videos!

@RobertCabralDogs Robert I don't mean to be mean, but please please learn the difference is between molloser and mastiff types.
Pitbulls which are a breed and group of breeds and strains are mastiff terrier genetics.
A cane corso is a molosser and mastiff genetics.
The molosser dogs originate from Greece and are essentially giant athletic hounds. And in the modern day have essentially been fully crossed out to varying degrees to various mastiff breeds. The bully kutta is considered the purist form left.
The dogs in question are pitbull types but from the same vain as hulk. Mastiff heavy with modern mastiff genetics. Either via reintroduction of the American bulldog types which are also a pitbull breed as they contain terrier genetics in small portions. Or via introducing various mastiff mutts usually acquired from sketchy bloodlines and breeders. Or from working dog for weight sled dog sports or similar sports lines which makes them too much dog for most owners.
The real problem with pitbull types originates with the over popularity in America after ww2 and then really ramped up beginning with the Crack epidemic in the 80s. Look up freeway Ricky Ross. The flood of money Into the streets with many bad breeding practices done almost old world style lead to very bad bloodlines and animals which were often used as studs and dams by show breeders or unsuspecting or foolish owners and wannabe breeders.
Unfortunately almost every bloodline is affect with that issue or over breeding or too limited if a genetic pool due to color coat breeding.
The molosser though is a scent and sight based hybrid hound slowly bred for pure working nature into basically a mastiff look a like then crossed with old true working mastiff dogs. And the more molosser leaning types have generally been left as true working dogs into modern times.
The corso and neo are part of another group. Cap de fila de sao miguel are another member also called the st miguel cattledog. Bully kutta. And some others also part of it. The oresa canario being the other more famous example.
It's how those breeds have been bred as catch dogs that also serve multiple other purposes and why they have the unique growth and muscle development. Modern neo being kinda show breeder ruined. And the mastiff leaning strain of the ancient Roman mutts.

When my children were very young I had a beautiful female standard poodle. She was super smart, very loyal, and gentle. Completely trained off leash everywhere. However, even though I knew her body language and completely had control over her, I NEVER let her be alone with the babies. That’s a standard poodle, much less a pit bull, which are banned here in Canada. And I’m okay with that, considering how little research most people do when they bring a dog into their family.

If i had been asked 20 or more years ago i would have been an advocate for Pit Bull dogs.
But today i find that APBT and any other breed not bred specifically to be a family pet simply should not be in excistence.
Yes certain working dogs are needed but in general any super strong, either physical or strong willed dog should not be a family pet.
My last Pit bit through my hand like butter with just a snap when i made the mistake of trying to calm him down from rough play by putting his stick in a bin while i distracted him.
He then saw my hand and mistook it for the stick and launched. He got as much of a scare as me and was ever so sorry and i take full blame for being so stupid when my pet was still in the moment.
I love dogs but the amount of unsafe breeds these days is crazy.
So much bad breeding and messed up genetics by people with only money in mind.
And most important the story about those 2 sweet little kids that got ripped apart and their mother shredded is so, so sad and the exact reason i am for being tough on who can own a dog or any other animal with the potential to rip your face off in seconds.

I love pitts and am affiliated with a couple of rescues. People get mad at them when they are honest about how they can’t place pitt mixes in certain homes. When the rescue does certain assessments and/or the dogs have an unknown history, they’re only going to do very specific placements. Then potential adopters critique the rescues for this. I love these dogs but get so frustrated at folks who don’t understand that very informed/specific placements are necessary for them. My pitt went to his grave with nary a growl btw, but he was born into rescue, was adopted at 10 weeks, and my son was old enough to interact safely with him. This tragic story was sooooo preventable.

      @logansilva8017 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@Kylie boettcher what breed is responsible for these attacks?
      Not American pit bull terrier.
Those dogs aren't American Pit bull terriers.
A dog is either an American pit bull terrier, or it's not, and there's no in between.
All sorts of dogs are labeled pitbulls, and many people have become so confused by it that they don't know what a purebred American pit bull terrier is.
People's inability to differentiate between dogs labeled pitbulls and dogs that are American pit bull terriers doesn't give people an excuse to blame the breed for stuff done by dogs that aren't part of the same breed.
When a dog that's labeled a pitbull does something bad, don't automatically blame the breed because it might not have anything to do with the American Pit bull terrier.

I would never leave my gsd alone with my grandkids. She is bred for protection & high prey drive and those cannot be simply "trained" out of her. When I have visitors she has to warm up to them and I train the visitors on how to interact wth her! With her and my last gsd, we trained and worked with them day one thru their entire lives because they need to know we are the pack leaders. I get so frustrated when people I know get breeds they are not willing to understand or train. I also have an issue wth the Humane Sociey Or. placing agressive breeds with people who are't equipped or aren"t willing to seek professional training. Just my opinion.
