i think the stone imprint theory refers to stones that can absorb energy or something like limestone or Quarts. reminds me of the ep of Warehouse 13 S1 E8 "Regrets". one of my favorites. some can absorb emotions and that, if strong enough, almost like the way that objects can have their previous owners ghost attached.

Stone Tape Theory is one of the oldest out there. That certain stones are able to absorbe and hold more history then others.
