Have you ever tried heating the piece up in the oven to about 100°C, applying flaxseed oil (unBLO) until it will not take anymore, and then letting it sit in the oven for an hour or so? I've done so to a few kitchen utensils and the finish is at least somewhat dishwasher safe. Just make sure to smear out any drops that gets pushed out as the FSO expands when heated.
Beautiful work, James! Nicely done! 😃 About bringing the kids to the shop... Well, I've seen a horse racing game... It's beautiful, easy to make (perhaps except for the horses, but you can make only their heads or 3d print them), but I did not like the rules. So, I don't know... I'm thinking about modifying it somehow and making one. We shall see. Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I read somewhere that soaking and then freezing dried wood can restore some of the workability one gets from green wood. Would that have helped in this case?
You make carving look easy. But I bet it ain't so, at least in my case. I think I will just stick with my power tools. But I will keep watching, at least for the entertainment value. And of course, in spite of myself, I do learn something from time to time. Thank you for sharing. Remember, when the wood goes around, the face shield goes down.🙂🙂
Just clean it with soap and water. This one is so simple with no joinery you can put it in the dishwasher. But that will wash the finish off faster. I usually reapply the finish once a year or so whenever I think it's starting to look worn.
Hello everyone. I have been watching a lot of hand tool woodworking and feel a strong draw towards it. However, I have had three back surgeries at 35 including disc replacements in my lower back. I tell you that to ask, is this something not reasonable for someone with injuries such as this? Or is there a way to work with these hand planes and other tools that spares your back? I really appreciate your time and thoughts on this.
This is great, James! I look forward to another project soon using the gouge. It looks like he is not offering the gouge for sale, though. Is that correct?
I really like these videos. Your house needs something so you go and make it real quick (done in a 5 minute montage only, right?). Thats just how things should be!
Melody, interesting is her middle name Pond by any chance, that would be really fun. The only water in the forest is the river, bonus points to any super nerds "Who" get the reference. My grandpa's two boys from his third marriage are James middle name Dean and John middle name Wayne. A bit dumb but definitely fun.
Love this as a cool project great gift for a family member
Love the idea. Helping the algorithm!
Nice little detail on the rope carving!
And that big honkin' gouge is great
Great idea for a Christmas gift, IMO. Thanks for sharing.
Very nice, love some of these "simple" projects that most anyone should be able to do with even simple tools. Many thanks for sharing !!!
Looks like a fun and useful project.

Hardest working man in TH-cam land
I LIKED this one. I will make one the first chance I get.
Thanks for sharing that!
That looked like a lot of fun. There may be no rest for the weary, but at least you have a rest for your spoons. 😃

That would help a little bit. You can also submerge it and use a vacuum pump to work the water deeper.
what is the best degree for sharpening an axe (I wanna the whole axe
to be one bevel )
Wow, you are glowing in this video.

Good night spoon. Time to rest.
How do you clean it and also, how often to you re apply the boiled linseed oil? I just subscribed, great channel!

There are always ways to work that lesson the stress on one part of the body or the other. But core strength is used in most applications.

Havent quite understood what are these for, but look nice
You put it on the oven top so you can set your cooking spoon on it.

Putting your projects on the back burner isn't a good idea when they're wood.

A spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down! Well maybe not that much. LOL.
Ah! A thing to do with the last little bit of mystery wood aka 6/4 asian packing skid materials.
I have an old maple table leg. I'm going to have to try this.
