Traveling back and forth there are many spots open to view trains on both sides of the Monongahela River. Norfolk Southern and CSX control the surrounding areas and this in turn was a very busy day for both lines.
The first train is at a familiar sight at the Pinkerton's Landing Bridge at the Waterfront in Homestead, PA. CSX 7386 is a C40-8W pulling an autorack consist northbound towards the West Pittsburgh area.
From the waterfront, we travel south into a small plan of homes in Clairton. Milepost 27 is only 3 miles north of Shire Oaks Yard, but here we catch a light engine movement with an SD70M-2 and an SD60 lashup headed straight to Shire Oaks where their job will be completed for the day.
A little ways north and across the river a CSX train is pushed through the Youghiogheny Branch in Port Vue. We then proceed to catch a train moving through McKeesport Yard headed west through Glassport on the Monongahela Branch. The entire train consists of covered hoppers where they will be delivered to the nearest grain facility.
Back near downtown Pittsburgh, we quickly catch NS 1089 hauling a full and heavy coal train northbound to CP-BELL and out of Pittsburgh and onto the Fort Wayne Line.
Finally, to end the day back in McKeesport, an autorack train has already passed but not long after, we catch CSX 589 on track 2 headed north. Pulling a long consist of empty coal hoppers the train appears to slow down to almost a full stop but then proceeds to get going again and finally out of our sight.
These videos are not in order for how the day progressed.
