    I do this in fits and spurts, definitely not a habitual thing though I wish it were. I like that you use cheap materials and don’t let making it perfect distract from the purpose - getting it on paper.

      I find using cheap materials reduces the barriers and excuses for me!

    I love that you shared a flip through! I have been wanting to start a commonplace book but always get stuck on the organization of all the different quotes. It’s so great to see that you just go from one thing to the next. Thank you for sharing!

    • @ChantelKlassen
      @ChantelKlassen  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, there really isn't any organization, which is great because it makes it easy to use! I have some people make an index at the back for reference, I've never done that before but maybe I will at some point.

    Thank you for your video! I am looking into common place books and other videos I saw made it so complicated. This is the first “easy” common book video I’ve seen. Thank you!

    Loved this video! I started keeping a commonplace book earlier this year and I’ve noticed that the quotes I write really speak to the season of life I’m in. I have a separate section for scripture in my commonplace book and I created an index in the back to find quotes I’m looking for. Also, papermate pens truly are the best! 😄

      @ChantelKlassen  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hehe, glad I'm not the only one that enjoys Papermate pens. I like that you use the same book but have different sections for your Scripture and other quotes, that's a brilliant idea!

    I love that you shared this. I have two commonplace journals. In one I keep track of books I've read and rate them or do a quick written review and sometimes have quotes; the other is the one I write all my quotes in. My second one is a lot like yours. I do try to use nicer journals for my commonplace books because I feel like there are so many lovely things written in them and they feel a little more special to me I guess. 😊

    I have wanted to start a complete notebook because there are many quotes that I have read and books that I would like to collect rather than just sticking a post it in the book. Thank you for making this video and inspiring me.

    I don't have a commonplace book like whole 1. I have notebooks for different purposes.
    like:
    1. readers book (quotes, things I learned from books)
    2. my spirituality book (like everything that is for my soul, mostly religious stuff and my relationship with God and my way to be better person than I am)
    3. my teachers learning book. (I am a teacher so everything that could be useful for me in that way I collect there. All the new info about children's psychology and new ways to be a better teacher and make better lessons)
    4. learning book (all other stuff I want to learn)
    For me... I cant keep all this in one book. But my learning book is mostly a commonplace book because everything that does not go in other 3 books goes to that one.
    Nice video! I also liked your voice too really soothing (?)
    I hope my comment is understandable. I study english not that long period of time and by myself so active writing and speaking is a struggle.

    I've been using a bullet journal that doubles as a commonplace journal, I prefer all my notes in one place, much easier with all the littles! I pretty much do what you do, quotes, notes, I add some doodles. And I also just use my cheap pens, regular colouring pencils and some pastel hiliters- nothing fancy.
    Thanks for sharing!

    I had a notebook in middle and high school where I kept a list of quotes that I came across. I started it because my 8th grade English teacher wrote a new quote on the board every day for us and I wanted to remember a lot of them. I have no idea where that notebook went, but I should probably start a new one.

    • @ChantelKlassen
      @ChantelKlassen  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh that would be cool to find your notebook from middle school and high school and see what kind of quotes you were liking at that time!

    • @psalm19creations
      @psalm19creations 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @ChantelKlassen I have a feeling that notebook is long gone, unfortunately. The only quote I actually remember is "Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people." I don't remember who said it, but it's one I've thought about many, many times over the years.

    At first I was thinking "I don't do this"....then realized I definitely do😂 and should be putting more things in it. Right now mine is mostly notes from a free Hillsdale College class on ancient Christianity and lists of states and what would make us want to move there😄
    Mine is just a steno notebook as well. I have another spiral notebook with recipes cuz I don't like to follow directions from a screen so I write them down first.

    I have been wanting to do this for a good year or so, but have yet to do it. I really should just go buy a notebook and get started. I just finished Anne of Green Gables and there were so many quotes that I loved and could have written down.

    • @ChantelKlassen
      @ChantelKlassen  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you're going to continue with the Anne series (and you should!) definitely start a commonplace book so you can record quotes from the rest of the series, there are so many great lines.

    • @crystalh28
      @crystalh28 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ChantelKlassen I am planning on continuing the series. I told Ben I didn't think I would read the next book right away, but once I was done with the first, I was tempted to start the second book immediately. Haha I haven't, however. I think I'm going to get in some Christmas reading and then continue on with the series.
      Thank you for the suggestion! ❤️ I will definitely need to get a notebook soon.

      I keep a lot of them. I went through a period a few years ago where I got rid of a lot of stuff, notebooks included, but they are building back up again, if you look at the bookshelf behind me, the top left corner has most of my notebooks, most of them are filled.

    I have kept these kinds of notes within just my general journal or years. The problem is, I it’s really hard to go back and find things later on! I recently stumbled across this concept of the zettlekasten method and am trying it out now. If I feel like it’s a long term solution, I may go through my old journals and transfer some of my favorite things to this notecard file system as well! There are lots of videos on it, but here’s one that helped really simplify it and make it feel accessible. I just have a simple file box now, but maybe some day it will expand!

      That's a cool method, I know some people keep an index at the back of their commonplace books to organize topics which would be an option as well!
