@@TheMisfitPond It's not a musical as we know it. It's a different style. More dramatic. I do not see it as a musical at all. It's not like a Fred Astaire sort of musical. The movie presents the ups and downs of a theater director/choreographer who tries to direct a musical.
This is probably the most I have heard Abbas Kiarostami talked about in a video. Close-Up, Certified Copy, and Like Someone In Love are all great, but personally my favorite of his has to be Taste of Cherry. I would even say Taste of Cherry is my favorite foreign language film ever.
Pandaborg Productions thanks man. We try to point out the films we have heard of or have seen. I’m really looking forward to watching close up soon. But now that you recommend Taste of Cherry, I’ll have to put that in consideration
I'm going to get The Red Shoes next time. I'm not a huge fan of blind buying films. I only blind bought Naked(1993), because several people recommended it to me.
Hi, I'm from Romania ! The way you are pronouncing Mungiu is so so funny. You just have to read the letters..something like Moon-gee-yu :) hope this helps !
Alex Blidar greetings! I’m honored to have you here on my video! And thank you so much! That helps so much! I no longer have to pronounce it like a moron. Lol
People buying lots of Criterion Collections blu-rays is my new porn. I wish I could scoop around and choose from this many titles. Sadly, I am Europe based and our Criterion selection is pretty limited yet. But we are getting there ;)
I can confirm that it is John Goodman on the cover of True Stories (which is one of my favourite 80's films). I got the film on criterion, and it looks beautiful!
i don't get true romance either. as for the haneke mention, discount film school tip: search his top 10 favorite films and begin there. thats the standard
I love watching you guys agonize over your picks. I try to make a list of movies that a BN is carrying by going to the website and selecting the option that shows me what's in stock. I recommend watching The Cranes Are Flying ('57) Russian film set during WWII.
Thanks for the shout out. I’m infatuated with True Romance. It’s more of a film for us Gen X’ers. I once dressed as Clarence Worley for a Halloween party and my girlfriend at the time was Alabama. I used to have two fish named Clarence and Alabama. And I have some merch from the film. I’d kill to have it on Criterion. I’ve even partially envisioned a prequel for Gary Oldman’s character Drexel Spivey showcasing how a white guy from the suburbs eventually becomes a drug dealing pimp with dreadlocks that thinks he’s black. If I ever come up with the money I’ll have you direct the film. I don’t play the lottery so it will have to be through criminal means. Maybe I can marry a prostitute and sell her pimp’s cocaine after I blast him. I can’t even name another Tony Scott movie off the top of my head except for Top Gun. It’s okay Carlos. I can tolerate ridicule of my favorite film. Plus I deserve it after my extremely long, mentally unhinged scathing review of The Tree of Life on your review of The Tree of Life. As well as my condemnation of everything Wes Andersen and Rian Johnson. 🤣🤣🤣🤝
I’m so happy Perry bought Naked. I don’t think you’re gonna regret it!! I can’t wait to be a part of the next criterion’s video in December! Really excited to see y’all
I was hoping theyd do the same for the Irishman.. but I didn’t see It. Cool they had the Fellini set out early. I still need to his films though. Fellini and Bergman are two filmmakers I desperately need to dive into
Thank you so much! I was specifically thinking about you in regards to The Red shoes but I couldn’t remember your name or else I would’ve shouted you out! I’m so sorry :( but thanks man! I’ll try to do stuff like this more often even if it’s not criterion. Just vlog stuff related to film
Wild strawberries is a very beautiful movie about time and love. Doesn't really matter which ingmar bergman movie you watch first. They're all incredible. Persona, wild strawberries, and seventh seal are must haves. Definitely one of the greatest directors of all time. No criterion collection is complete without seven samurai. Another Japanese Drama that i highly recommend is Ugetsu (there was not 1 moment that I got bored in that movie; seven samurai is just a little longer). You should watch sex lies and videotape with your girl. Fantastic movie on sexual spirituality that was Steven Soderberghs debut that won Palme d'Or. I love Michael haneke very much. Ill watch whatever he's made.
I completely disagree. Adam Sandler is fantastic in Uncut Gems, Punch Drunk Love, The Meyerowitz Stories, and The Wedding Singer. Especially Uncut Gems and Punch Drunk Love.
Hahaha I can see the casting and culture it’s set in being more fitting in the American version. But I can’t really comment further cause I’ve never seen the original
I prefer the casting of the 2007 version. Naomi Watts is one of my favorite actresses. Michael Pitt and Brady Corbet absolutely killed it as the antagonists in my opinion.
I thought the bad guys in the original were 100x better. Maybe if you've never seen the original then seeing the remake first is more rewarding, but having been a fan of the original so long I thought the remake was unnecessary.
Tony Scott was the Michael Bay of the 80s and 90s. That being said, I unironically enjoy a handful of his films (namely True Romance and Crimson Tide).
@@Keyser666 I thought Man on Fire, Domino and Top Gun were terrible. Unstoppable was okay i guess. I haven’t seen the others but after all of what I’ve seen, I was done

That “Essential Fellini” boxset is a must have. Fellini is one of the best directors in cinema history.
I have yet to see any Fellini film. I plan to put 8 1/2 on the next patron poll
