At an altitude of 26,500 ft, Air Canada Flight 143 suddenly lost both engines due to fuel exhaustion. Faced with an unprecedented situation, Captain Bob Pearson, with extraordinary composure and rare skill, executed an emergency maneuver known as the "slip" - tilting the plane to reduce speed while maintaining altitude. With exceptional precision, he managed to land safely on the Gimli runway, which had been converted into a car racetrack and camping site, without any major casualties. A breathtaking display of piloting, praised as a miracle in aviation history.
The root of the fuel problem was Canada's recent change to Metric. As pilots depend on knowing the weight they carry, the conversion from pounds per gallon to kilograms per litre confused the refuelling. A remarkable incident handled by a remarkable pilot.
Bob Pearson and his co-pilot notwithstanding the errors made here by many, did what no one could replicate afterwards in a flight simulator. Flying skills of the highest magnitude despite how he and Maurice Qunitel were treated in the immediate aftermath.
The Background Music is Louder, it's hard to hear the Commentary Well, Please do something I need to continue watching till the end.... Go to the editor and reduce the Background Music 🎶,
@herrbonk3635 No, this material is produced by MAYDAY by use of CGI and Flight Simulators, and then after the video is edited and ready they add the commentary and background music as well. They use sophisticated softwares to produce such materials. I Really appreciate there efforts 👌 to produce such a high quality vidoes.
That coffee can being flattened into a flat piece of tin has disturbing implications when you consider what that force would have done to a human body.
I believe the only saving grace to that would have been the fact that what happened would be nearly instant and imperceptible to the passengers and crew when it happened.
@@gregorymeyer1798 to you perhaps but I’d much prefer someone I cared about to not feel a thing, the human central nervous system cannot work fast enough for someone to feel pain at that speed of impact
I have an idea - make pilots watch these episodes on a regular basis. I'm not a pilot and I already knew what to do in this case because I've learned by watching these episodes.
1st Story (b4 investigation) - the logical thing to do was to trust the 1st officer's gages over the captain's gages since the latter didn't work until they got into the air. Then turn around and go back to the airport to test the gages. Some of the warnings run off the captain's gages so it would make sense he'd get an overspeed warning that was not correct. The moment the stick-shaker started they should have put the nose down and gained speed because everything after that was the result of losing lift from flying too slow.
The captain may have gone into a medical paralysis at some point and as a 2nd officer it was the jr. Officer's responcibility to take control and save the plane. This should be emphasized, not subdued in their training.
Case #2 - DC10 Cargo Doors - Few people realize that the charter of the FAA assigns it 2 main tasks: 1) Passenger safety AND 2) Promotion of the airline industry. The Conflict Of Interest here is obvious. And if you trace back the history of MANY airline crashes, you will find that this Conflict Of Interest is the Root cause. Simply, the FAA is inherently a "sweetheart" regulatory body that favors Big Business. God Bless CAPITALISM !!!
Why would they use a plane that has been sitting for 3 weeks without a very thorough inspection of that plane?? When the air speeds don’t match that’s a problem, abort the flight and get things checked out.
The audio levels are terrible. It is obvious that the people who produce this series, never watch it! The narration needs to be foremost, and the foreign language should be reduced to a background level.
A plugged pitot tube makes the airspeed indicator act like an altimeter. Goes up as you go up, down as you go down - "Airplane flying 101" (the class BEFORE computers are introduced). AF-101 also mentions that bugs LOVE to make nests in pitots and statics, and to look out for "remove before flight" banners and tape over the sensors from cleaning crews forgetting to remove them. They also teach attitude flying, ie "at this power setting and this angle of attack we should be going at that speed and that rate of climb or something is wrong". Basic flying skills have become so degraded, the only thing that could make this sort of thing worse is if they add AI to the mix, where _no one_ has any idea what the machine is doing.
39:02 “Not culturally appropriate” is one of THE WORST excuses for hundreds (thousands overall?) of people TO DIE. It’s absurd that it’s more “culturally acceptable” to let a plane full of people CRASH than to POSSIBLY OFFEND someone 🙄🤦🏻♀️🙄🤦🏻♀️🤬
He thought it was a minor problem and that siwtching to the conpilots indicator for now should be wnough to start the plane. But later the situation got worse and the speed difference was way to big. They werent sure which one was showing the right speed so they just had to test it out. As shown they werent going to fast rather way to slow but by then it was already too late. If they had managed to go out the stall im sire they would have concentrated on the co pilots instruments but they never got that far
Can you please watch your own programs and realize the volume of all parties is terrible can barely here the guy telling what's happening very annoying happens alot with your videos
Why are the same videos re uploaded over and over again? It’s says 3 days ago but ive literally seen em all and from the same Chanel a month ago plus I don’t get the red line to show I’ve previously seen the video before. Bit of a joke and con unsubscribed n making sure I never get anything from this channel again.
audio mixing horrible.
Video also!
Try using headphones. It sounds better with headphones and Dolby Atmos on for some strange reason.
It is like the SAP channel was overwhelmed by the sound and music
Yeah. It's backwards. The narrator becomes in the background.
I cant hear most things

W thumbnail. Love the wheels coming out of the wings
AI
AI crap
I love that the case the black boxes are shipped in says "fragile".
who mixed this? the dialogue is literally drowning
Legend has it, it was Helen Keller.
Not literally, figuratively.
Excellent work dudes!!
This was produced by an all women team though.
They shouldn’t have taken off when they noticed the mismatch in numbers 😢
💯✨️👍
a bee dude
Narrator volume leveling is way off and the non-English dialog overdubbing volume is even worse. Ugh 🙄
I think that music could go. Just a thought. Love your program
I have an idea - make pilots watch these episodes on a regular basis. I'm not a pilot and I already knew what to do in this case because I've learned by watching these episodes.
#1 basically the same crash as AF 447. Pitot blocked, speed reading inaccurate, computer confused & gives up, pilots out of the loop.
it can't be easy to be a pilot if you feel pressured to ride with broken equipment

Mentour Pilot recently did an excellent, comprehensive coverage of the Bergenair tragedy, fwiw

Sorry guys I can't watch this, I like this series but not sure what has happened with the audio here?
Mayday really needs to fix the sound quality. In many videos the narrator can barely be heard!

Works perfect for me though...do you use wifi?
The DC-10 was standing for the *Death Chamber 10.* Everything was like wrong with that plane.
The sound on this is odd for these programs
Where can I find the new air crash investigation episodes season 25 I believe will they be uploaded soon like Saudi flight 163 and others
Thank you for the video but my audio system makes the mistakes in the video even worse. I can't watch this
Ah. The DC-10. The most cursed aircraft ever built.
Why would they use a plane that has been sitting for 3 weeks without a very thorough inspection of that plane?? When the air speeds don’t match that’s a problem, abort the flight and get things checked out.
No aircraft problem discovered on the ground has ever improved once the airplane takes flight.
2:09:11 Miracle on the Hudson has nothing on this landing!
Is this video in English or Español?
Each are talking over the other making it almost impossible to comprehend
The audio levels are terrible. It is obvious that the people who produce this series, never watch it! The narration needs to be foremost, and the foreign language should be reduced to a background level.
Remove the background music and repost. You can't hear any of the narrative.

How many planes do you fly?
@@ThrasherGnar 1 at a time. Whats your point?
"Auto pilot" sounds like a joke... And after watching several of these episodes learning how it works (or not), it seems it actually is.

Why background music?????
Can't hear whats being said dude take video down fix the sound then repost it
dump the background noise
I think modern computerized airliners should add an additional alarm that goes off whenever there are too many alarms.
i’m waiting for them to make a voepass 2283 video
English audio over original voice is too low, I can not hear anything what they say
if the captain uses the first officer's air speed instrument during takeoff, why didnt he use it later in midflight?

2007-2008.
Cool
Who mixed this? Helen Keller?
CANNOT hear the Narrative due to DREADFUL background NOISE!
You can not fight Fate and win
No chapters, no watching.
background noise overwhelming dialogue
Great monument of human incompetency.
We are in God's hands when flying, because humans are often outsiders.
can ya'll pls upload air France 447
They have a video on it, over a year old I believe. "Lost Over the Abyss"
Check out the Mentour Pilot video if you haven't seen it.
Stop drinking so much Whiskey. 🥃
The audio is terrible! The narrator voice is very low, you can hardly hear it during the translation. Makes the video really annoying to watch.
This video has been republished like 4 times now and also is not really great editing/audio wise
Terrible audio mixing, and the episode/season is not listed in the description. Terrible upload.
so glad i can speak spanish, so i don't need translator lol. but yeah, the audio is pretty bad on this video fyi.

Almost as annoying as trying to figure out what you’re trying to say?

Wow
terrible audio
its hard to understand when the english translate is over the other voice

Hi brother
Why Mayday change PFP?
Can't watch his the adio is horrible!
