Sad to hear of Mike Yarwood's passing at the age of 82. With a pun definitely intended, he made a great impression on me when I was younger. His Christmas shows were legendary. He'll be greatly missed. RIP legend.
Brings back happy memories, when tv shows were watched by millions at exactly the same time and everyone spent the following day discussing and laughing about the shows. I hope he realised how much joy he brought to people over the years. Thanks Mike.
😢 Wow. I loved him as a kid. Just watched this. He truly was incredible. That little "this is me " at the end brought a tear to my eye. Thanks Mike. You were the best. RIP 💔
Mike Yarwood was probably the first impressionist/entertainer that I remember as a kid. Very talented man. Shame he stopped when he did/had health issues. We miss his talent today ❤
Mike Yarwood's show was always watched in my home when I was a kid. These clips remind me of how talented he was back then. I hope he is enjoying his retirement.
Michael Edward Yarood OBE, 14th June 1941 - 8th September 2023 Rest in peace you wonderfully funny, talented comedian, impressionist and actor. Thank you for all the laughs over the decades. You will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered.
Oh man..brings a tear to my eye when I watch him....what an amazing man and entertainer...his impressions were amazing..he is one of those people I wish I had the chance to meet
Good grief, I'm blown away by this man's talent. He really was one in a million (make that several million). And doesn't this compilation just demonstrate how short of the mark the entertaimers we have today are.
Such a genuinely talented and warm hearted entertainer. And the way he did his impressions was full of fun. This video shows many of the prominent figures of entertainment and politics of his times. Great to remember his talent at entertaining our families throughout the UK in his unique and special way.
I have always been a big fan of his. He did a brilliant Tony Hancock impression and his Jimmy Carter was hilarious. He became Frank Sinatra totally. The pressure of it all and got too much and he was running out of ideas. It happened to The Two Ronnie's. He had a great run and called it a day. He is happy now, teetotal and spends a lot of time with his family. He did appear on "This Is Your Life" when Bob Monkhouse was the guest and did an impression of him. Bob couldn't stop laughing. I have his DVDs.
He really was incredible. What a talent, never surpassed. The quick fire changes without makeup or costumes, his face and body seemed to morph. God’s speed Mike.
@@dlamiss I agree; but no impressionist has managed to look exactly like the person that they are impersonating, than Mike. He looked extraordinarly like Sinatra, Parkinson and Ken Dodd as examples. His Max Bygraves was wickedly funny. He had the gestures and the way that they walked as well. John Colshaw is far more accurate, but he and other top impressionists regard him as "The Governor". John is brilliant, but lacks the ability to look completely like the character. He is more if a voice over artist. Mike had a great career, and I still crack up at his Jimmy Carter impression. I have a DVD of his shows which I thoroughly enjoy. I also have the Stanley Baxter DVDs which are brilliant. Stanley was more of a comedy actor and a master impressionist.
@@davidwhyberd7612 Most certainly one of the best, largely down to how he pitched his impressions. He had a lot of fun with his characterisations. His political "takes" were quite gently offered rather than barbed or cutting as in the modern day impressionists routines. I think this is what endeared us to him.
Ahhh very fond memories watching as a youngster in 70s. I have bad memory of 70s generally (3 day week, no heat or light); the bin-men's strike, unions, government bankruptcy and begging at the IMF) but there were some highlights too. Mike Yarwood (and of course The Sweeney too). I went to see Mike Y at Bunny's Place in Cleethorpes for my 17th birthday. in 1978. Brilliant.
It's a Mike Yarwood impression video. Why would it be 'hard to believe' it's not John Major ? It's a pretty bad impression, too. Credit goes to the make up and costume department, not tedious old Yarwood.
What a snide, mean, unnecessary comment to make on the day the man dies. If you were so dismissive of his talent, why did you watch the clip as far as John Major ? @@nickslick75
@@trilliarobinson7862 I didn't 'watch the clip as far as John Major', Einstein. The commenter I was responding to placed a timestamp on his/her comment, so everyone could see what he/she was blubbering about. Which at least makes him/her a little sharper than you.
A marvellous impressionist and all-round entertainer. I still remember a skit from the early 1970s in which he played Ted Heath having an argument with a Harold Wilson ventriloquist's dummy.
I hope that, given the advancement of impressions and the whole new realm it took under Spitting Image, Rory Bremner etc (and I enjoy both), I really hope Mike Yarwood gets the recognition he deserves as time moves ever forward. Whilst the jokes were not biting and sometimes quite basic, Mike deserves credit for making the art of impressions mainstream and acceptable for a family audience. More of the tropes and traits impressionists use for celebrities during his own successful period and the ones he did himself, often are directly or indirectly inspired by Yarwood. He set the bar and allowed famous people to be characters. Even when the impression itself wasn't top notch or if the accent wasn't perfect (for example, say, Dave Allen), the way he copied the body language and hand movements is almost an artform itself.
R.I.P. sad to hear of his passing. We don’t get the laughter from our so called comedians and impersonators of which there are few these days. A true legend that entertained us for many years back in the day.
Rip Mike yarwood a true great of British television and a brilliant impressionist he was tv gold in the 60s and 70s and a unique and unequalled match like many tv stars he I think burnt himself out a great shame as he was a great talent and entertainer.

I’m pretty young (eg in my 20s) but my dad brought me up on some Mike Yarwood VHS tapes and we learnt about him in A-Level British History. So it’s a shame to see an icon of a past era go especially at the young age of 82
Mike Yarwood Performance Highlights 2159pm 15.5.23 i liked mike yarwood... and again, impersonators or impressionists have a general ladder of skill they can adhere to... Yarwood tries to be topical and create an impersonation you can get straight off... whereas Harry Enfield doesn't really bother even adhering to anything which would lead you to think he's impersonating such and such a public figure...his laziness as taking off a character in the public eye is lazy and therein lies the humour. that said Enfield's going to the polish coffee shop has turned out kindda scary... and a well observed situation he may have found himself in... as for Yarwood being ill. again, the rags lie as do his alleged friends etc etc etc... the old treadmill of b.s is put in motion even for the lowliest amongst us... comedy has died a death. and i would ask those who did it down what will actually be left for us to enjoy once the offensive ness has been driven off and the acts and observations cleaned up? banality will merely allow you to discern the simulation. banality is all that we will have left... which was already well to the fore as with impersonations.... we all knew it was an impersonation, an impression the comedian was presenting.... we didnt need protecting from that fact...
RIP Mike, the 70's wouldn't have been the same without you ..

To anyone 50 and over he was a master entertainer and comedian. What do they have now, Ant & Dec, gormlessly grinning and that's it!

RIP Mike, so talented.
Came here after watching radio interview with Ricky Gervais and john CULSHAW who were waxing about this guy Mike yarwood . Amazing !
RIP! So talented.
