Thank you so much for this informational video, Dr. Bastian. It's been incredibly frustrating and life-altering for me ever since I was diagnosed with SD, especially considering how few resources there seem to be on it compared to other disorders. So, thank you for all you do to shed light on the topic and better explain what all of my options include. You da man!

I’m afraid to go in to see an ENT and be told it’s not a severe case or “your voice is fine”and they turn me down for Botox treatment. I know of one case where that happened to a patient. I heard her voice and it sounded like something was definitely wrong. I guess it doesn’t hurt if I at least try. I’ll never know what the outcome will be

If you find your body / mind tends to go into "everything is fine, no problems here" then recording yourself on various days may be helpful.
And bringing a support person (male, because of patriarchal bs built into the system) may help as well
Hope it works out for you

My neurologist said to record myself. Because it changes so often sometimes whether you are relaxed or even with other people or even just after doing housework. Also you can always get a second opinion. I had to switch doctors because they kept saying it was anxiety when it wasn’t. Once I switch to someone who listened I got the help I needed immediately. Your doctor can alway prescribe you medication for now until you can get Botox

I was diagnosed with mixed SD in 2004 and boots is very touch and go for me. Even if I get some relief, its minimal and short lasting, but I still get the injections every 3-4 months. Does anyone else with mixed SD do any other kind of treatment?

Hi Dr Bastian. I just got my first Botox a little over 2 weeks ago for suspected adductor SD with possible overlaying tremor. I do feel like I overall sounded like I had what you call the vocal tonic cry variant. For my Botox, I had my breathy phase for about a week then as the breathiness decreased I had a period where my voice sounded pretty good and it was very easy to talk. But now it’s starting to feel super hoarse and somewhat sore. Is this normal? It sounds like my voice “cracks” like you mentioned in this video and could that be from me pushing my volume too much or trying too hard to get my pitch back down to normal? My doctor said it’s normal to feel hoarse but I’m worried the Botox isn’t working now, even though I had a good few voice days this past week. My SLP also said maybe the voice cracks I get are just how the tremor is reacting to the Botox

We tell our patients that it takes about three injections over time to find your way to an optimal dose, and a few more to become a "veteran" who can communicate clearly to your doctor what you are experiencing. If interested, you might listen to this video th-cam.com/video/4hPGmGadixM/w-d-xo.html because it helps you distinguish what is happening after Botox injection...
