those seeds are coated in clay, so that small seeds can be more easily handled. You can buy them like that (colored as well) online, or some garden stores, they're great if you garden with children that have small hands and don't have the dexterity needed for really small seeds.
Seems like it would make more sense just to arrange them in a pattern where they can grow all the way to full maturation, rather than transfer them several times. Really cool process anyhow.
In the true fashion of the Road Trip, we're going to have to visit the school for the blind and tell them that we're there to pick up one of their buses for maintenance. That should give enough room for the belly dancers to do their thing, during the drive. It sure would be pretty cool to tour such a facility. Impressive operation, indeed. Let me know when you have some vacation time saved up. Stay in contact with those belly dancers, too. I'm sure that they love lettuce.
not as environmentally friendly as suggested. i used to work in a similar facility in tn (tanimura and antle), and a lot of fertilizer water is drained daily to keep water borne diseases down. the zinc fertilizer that is added to the water contains arsenic and the copper sulfate contains lead. the potency of some of the chemicals used in these facilities is strong enough to make employees gag. it costs about fifty cents to produce one of those heads of lettuce, including the packaging.
You know what? I think that more people would if they could. We need more of these places. Kick ass operation. I'd like to tour something like that. I mean potential vacation idea to tour that place. Road trip and all.
I think that some of the large ones are in Canada. Road trip, huh? Like the idea? Let's figure out where they are located. I'm in Kansas. I'd love to be able to work you into the road trip. There is a slight problem. When driving for such long distances, music selection can sometimes be an issue. I'll be honest. I'm not really a big belly dancing music fan. I prefer alternative. I'd certainly be more obliging if the belly dancers were to accompany the music. Yes, I saw your favorites page.
the whole point of mass production is to produce cheaper foods so that everyone could enjoy it. if you prefer soil planted produce you could always buy locally but it would probbly cost more.

hi i want to know that which nutrients/ fertilisers you add in it and n how could u now that which nutrients you want to and in water. which technology u use for that. thanks
Hydroponics is a good system but it also have some drawback, you will need to buy some "plant food", nutrients and supplements which may be costly. Before building any hydroponics system, you should think about the benefit from aquaponics system, which can automate 95% of work
Traditional farming you also buy nutrients called fertilizers. However, you don't necessarily need to buy nutrients. You can make worm or compost tea instead and use this for your nutrients.
True, they have a wonderful idea. But that's all it is at this stage (a concept). Hopefully in the next 20 years we can see some real change. And hopefully we aren't dead by then too.
This method of growing crops is superior - if all farms in the United States were replaced with hydroponic farms on equal amounts of land, we could not only feed all of our people (homeless included) but we could feed all of Mexico too.
How long have you been growing lettuce hydroponically?I salute you for having gone this far. I truly admire the process and methods of this kind of growing system. It really sounds great and interesting. You did a great job!
at 4:15 ,he said since it indoor the ferterlizer can't destroy the environment, I sound like you are what u eat, so this must be bad for us since all the ferterlizer is on the food we eat!

it's cool, but I doubt hydroponic plants get all the 'magic' wild plants get when grown in real soil. There's so many types of nutrients, minerals and all sorts of other things that aren't included in the water at these farms. Fertilizer just doesn't cut it for me.
@cs2sw psh, ive shown ur kind facts over and over again, and guided u through those facts with undeniable logic, and yet yall still arent willing to budge, it is stubbornness at its highest. not gonna waste my time again.
no one says one cannot grow their own food on their own land. heck, one could even set up their own hydroponic greenhouse. whats holding us back then? the same laziness that has us rely on businesses to grow the food for us is whats keeping us from learnin how to do it ourselves. growin food on land requires nearly as much "capital" (knowledge, materials, experience) as it does to grow it hydroponically. gov interference or not, we dont grow our own food even tho we are free to.

The best video I've ever watched about aquaponic system. Thanks a lot.
I love this video. It shows how food can be grown where the soil is too poor to farm.
I kept hearing the bridge from Lionel Richie "All Night Long"
Omg it was driving me crazy, I was watching on Hulu and found it on TH-cam so I could see if someone would say it
yo How its made is like the best show ever !
Almost five times the yield. That is one fine operation. Can it be done with organic fertilizers? That is one kick ass facility. Wow.
This is the coolest way i ever seen lettuce grow.

@dusteroo the nutrients and minerals and stuff in soils can be added to water. they probly already do that.

Very good ! what's the fertilizer, brother
@ jehan yes this is a mistake, it is about 18-20 lettuces per square yard at the end of the process
This is extremely efficient since you dont need space to reach all plants unlike pvc tubing.
@ jehan at the start of the process it is about 400-500 plants per square yard, because they are very small
How did they avoid the use of pesticides in such an open environment?
Because it's in a controlled sealed environment, inside a building, the insects can be prevented from entering it.

Do you know where is this farm?
What the website address for this farm?
hi

The music in this clip seems to be ripping off Lionel Richie's "All Night Long."
ah, does poly foam break down any easier or less toxic?
Sick vid!!
Great Video!
Can you give me any tips for growing lettuce hydroponically in the Florida Keys?
Can some one tell me which part of the world this video is shot ? Looks very promising...interested to know the enterprise details. Thanks in advance.
it is all done hydroponically so i should not matter if in winter there are less hours per day of sun...
Wow... This is one of the oldest hydroponic video I've seen. I never knew that there were large hydroponic farms back then...
Inspiring. This should be my aim in 2 years.

The only issue with that though are the pH spikes. Its such a pain having to constantly cycle the water
Fresh natural lettuce, wind turbines, solar panels, hydroelectric energy, and spacious greenhouses. The future will be awesome. =)
why isnt a machine doing all aspects of this process?
Could you please give me list down of tools for plants
? thank for your support.

Silly question but how do you coat the seeds in clay
you could buy pre-made media like rock wall of other for few cents
mmmmmm.... lettuce.... looks pretty good....
It is probably the speed of your connection.
4:35 *Then they package the lettuce in a giant plastic container that weighs more than the lettuce itself.*
This lettuce it actually better then organic, since soils are so depleted. Plus it taste much better!
I don't understand what you mean by no flavor? Plants grown in hydroponics are as good or better than ones grown in the ground.

Hydroponics yes, I was reffering to the floating batt method used here.
nice Every day I find something new on TH-cam.
what precaution were taken for fly n insects ?
from indonesian..🖒🖒🖒amazing..

It's crazy that it takes almost twice as long to grow in the winter
I am not sure if you can grow 500 lettuce per sq yard with this setup. Is that the correct number that you mention in this video?
Most probably not.
do any body knows where i can get these kind of seedling trays?
Could you please assist to know what source we use for seeding

if i were a head of lettuce
this would be the matrix to me...
Witch material use to build waterbed
hwere is this farm at?
This is probably in spain, they have the largest collection green houses.
Ah good to know! Thanks.
My concern is the taste of this lettuce! Did anyone try ?
Y is that y don't we plant in in a green house directly or plant it in the 18 plate directly ?
I would think a computer that monitors it and adds chemicals to it depending on its levels

I wonder where these places are.
do they use aerator??
anybody have information about hydroponic's water??what is in the water?
Proteins & nutrients
Wow that so cool
can you make it 2 stage ?
Very Usefull Video
i think its probably poly foam.
the brown cubes? they're made of "oasis"

same way its shown in this video but in a smaller scale..
why dose it matter if it is summer, or winter?
if it is grown hydroponicly it should not really matter......
É um processo imprecionante
That's a lot of lettuce!
Fascinating!!!
thanks for saying this
Cement??
I believe they made a mistake...the guy said 500 lettuce in a square yard...then that would mean that is over 2million lettuce on a acre of land
