I'm 🇨🇦 he's 🇺🇦 & we too fell in ❤ despite the language barrier. We met in the spring, and now we're each learning the other's language & planning our future. When ya know ya know❤❤💯💯
I am a seasoned man of 63 years, and I am not ashamed to say that this gives me tears whenever I watch it. How could there be a more beautiful and desirable woman than Aurelia. There should be way more feel-good movies like "Love Actually".
I moved to Portugal in 2002 and fell deeply in love with this beautiful country, my neighbours, my friends. On a trip to England in 2005 I was very seriously ill. I was diagnosed, incorrectly, with cancer. Even so, I had to have life threatening surgery. It took a year to fully recuperate at a family home. I remember watching this film and as Aurelia spoke in Portuguese, tge tears flowed. Just to hear the language I missed so deeply. I finally returned almost a year after first leaving. My neighbours had been told I had cancer. I cannot recall how many people cried to see me home and fully recovered. I'm still here today, in my beautiful Alentejan home. I will never, ever leave.
@anneisabelle001 Yes, Jamie's whole "just checking, cos it's Christmas" thing. Now, twenty years after the film release, I realise he could have started writing to Aurelia. Or telephoning! Just showing up randomly is a tricky move. As for the public bit, I did cringe and have to look away at the very un-English, face planting with tongue action in full view of restaurant patrons and Aurelia's father 😳
Does anyone even propose in public anymore. Are there any romantics left? I know if I had someone I loved I would ask in public. Also thats how you kiss a woman you love.
This was basically my parents when they met, lol. My dad is American and my mom is French. Neither could speak each other's native language. Somehow, they fell in love, mom learned English and dad failed horribly learning French. They made it work and got married ❤.
I can relate so hard to your dad. Basically me trying and failing to learn Vietnamese for my (now) near fluent English speaking gf. The struggle is real 🤣
@@pchan0368 That's amazing! My grandparents were married for 63yr before Granddad had to leave us. Only two yrs for me and my gf so far. I'm in my mid 30s, so there's a solid chance we'll never get to 46 😕
Besides revealing that she learned his language, I also love her answering in English because he's the only other person in the room who speaks English, so he learns her answer before everyone else learns it.
This is so funny and romantic. I love this story the most in Love Actually. Speaking without the other knowing is just touching. Love doesn't need language to express.
My favourite storyline.❤ And recently I've begun living it.☺ I'm 🇨🇦 he's 🇺🇦. When we met the feelings of attraction were instant but we had the language barrier between us. We still managed to speak & get to know each other better despite it all, and we've been together now for four plus months & are each learning the other's language. We still don't always know what the other is saying, 😂 but much like these two characters it doesn't stand in our way... the love is there & growing every day.❤❤
The last 20 minutes of this movie was amazing, with everyone getting together. But the scene with Jamie going to find Aurelia to marry him, that was the one that really stood out the most.
Lúcia Moniz (the actress playing Aurelia) is very sweet and talented (she is a singer as well) . Once we crossed in a bank waiting line and she is as friendly and humble as in the movie. No big ego at all. As a woman, she makes me proud of being portuguese.
Saw this at the cinema in Nov 2003, and I've still never seen anything more intense. Especially the scene from 03:32 until he drops her off and they say goodbye - 😢
Shame not to include their part at the airport where upon first meeting his friends she teases that “Jamie's friends are so good looking! He never tells me this. I think, maybe now I have made the wrong choice? Picked wrong Englishman?” and Jamie replies “She can't speak English properly, she doesn't know what she's saying.” 😂❤
Hah, exactly my thinking. It’d be great to include this bit, as well as the moment where the restaurant manager told that he’d not let Aurelia go as she was his best waitress 😂
This is the best scene, the second best is at the end when she meets his friends and says “all of your friends are so good looking, did I marry the wrong Englishman?” Kills me every time
UPDATE: I think RomComs saw this! They've changed the title/description! 🤣 Colin Firth is Mark in Bridget Jones and Jamie in Love Actually! Come on RomComs! That’s romcom 101! 😂❤️
Is it just me, or did they make Lúcia Moniz (Aurelia) look significantly older than her real-life 27 years? I can't believe it's the same woman who only 7 years prior was breaking hearts all over Europe when she sang for Portugal in the 1996 Eurovision Song Contest..... (Edit: 3:44 + 8:14... nevermind, we're good again! A minha estrelinha portuguesa ... te amo! :) )
My ex-wife and I hail from different languages. She spoke English very well though, and I tried to learn Polish but never quite became conversational. Well, we lived in the English-speaking world. Perhaps if we had moved to Poland, I could have marinated myself in that language. Anyway, my request to her father for her hand in marriage was written phonetically. I cringe when I think about it and avoid the video of it at all costs. I could make a decent stab at it nowadays but that'll have to wait for my next Polish potential. 😄
Oh dear Heaven...😳 this was real for Colin.... He did fall over the moon in love with a beautiful Italian woman whom he believed in as if a dream had become reality... except it was not a double fantasy 😥
This was by far (for me) the most beautiful story in Love, Actually.
agreed
I agree….my favorite too!💞
Jamie and Aurelia had the best love story, I love how they learned each other's language. Now that's love!
Estoy de acuerdo.

This is FLAT OUT the most beautiful declaration of love and marriage proposal EVER, EVER!
This is by far the best story I’ve ever seen! I never get tired of watching it!
Haven’t seen it in quite some time and I agree with you - the romance with them was adorable but also the entire film was so enjoyable ❤
I need to record this as I only have a couple of films that I’ve recorded and have watched them to death!
Same

Aurelia's father and sister are a brilliant comedy duo

Jamie's asking Aurelia to marry him is the only public proposal that doesn't make me cringe 🥰

Not to undermine the fabulous writing and great acting, but I can’t imagine a proposal from Colin Firth would make me cringe regardless.

"Just in cases..." 😂❤
Sweet point! ❤️👍
For those that don't know, she is an amazing singer.. she represented Portugal in Euro vision and did very well.
Yes, ESC 1996.
Oh really? That’s amazing to know! Thank you for this little gem 🥰💕
I didn't expect to be sobbing on a Friday afternoon like this

I LOVE this scene!!! Aurelia is STUNNING!!!❤️
Shakespeare would have been proud of the balcony scene.
The best of all the "love" stories.
This was my favourite thread in this movie. I have my own overseas love and I can relate to this very closely
My total fav story from Love Actually ,,, Lucia is a goddess. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Still brings me to tears
"Unfortunately, she doesn't speak French, just like you"😂😂😂
That Lady didn´t distinguish between Italian and Spanish also, wich made the joke very round.
Maaann, that was right though the heart! 🤣
His French wasn't that bad actually 😁
That gets me every time😂😂😂😂
For me that is the best scene.
*_One of my ALL TIME FAVORITES for Christmas..._*
This love story is my favourite!
Oh Colin Firth! I'm in hopeless love with him
those look backs always gets me... one looks back and then the other one does but they never ever catch each other's gaze
hah! I just wrote that and know they're gazing at each other in the car
'Oh God she's in ' makes me laugh every time I watch it!
love this story so very much. seemingly insurmountable differences embraced and overcome by the power of love 💗
This is the best holiday movie of all time, classic and timeless
I just can't get over the betrayal by his brother. It's the worst kind
World's worst brother.
But for this betrayal, he would never have met the love of his life. Everything is for the better in this craziest world
The musical score is absolutely classic !
this scene makes me tear up every time.
This is my favourite love story! 😍😍👏👏
Best story in the film!!!!! 😢😊 Tears every time.
How do you not love this scene? Best in the movie.
❤ ¡Que linda escena! La vi varias veces la película con mí mamá 🌌. Me encantaba el actor.
First time I ever heard the name Aurelia. 20 years later, it is what we named our second daughter.
You choose a beautiful name aurelia in my opinion
Great emperor Caesar mother name was also Aurelia. Beautiful and noble name
What does the name mean?
I believe it comes from the Latin word aurum meaning gold. Perhaps golden or precious as gold?

Well done, by both of them.
Let me tell you, Colin Firth knows how to pull a girl in for a kiss! that intense look into the eyes, then the he slowly descends. Magic!!!!
That is the real way a man kisses the woman he wants loves forever and beyond. I'm 45 still haven't found my forever.
He certainly does!🥰
Must admit perfect story
The best love story in the movie
favorite movie ever.

The conversion in the lake though. A similar dialog may of just happened to a random couple within human history.
