I had a Razer Viper 8 KHz at launch, and a lot of game engines didn't support the mouse whatsoever. Sometimes you're forced to play at 2000 HZ because there is noticeable stuttering or will feel like it's capped at a max speed no matter how fast you flick/turn your mouse. Of course, that improved in time. Though, games based on Valve engine can't really handle more than 2000 HZ well, which is why APEX seems to suffer even to this day.
I feel like what could've been included in the video is the DPI tests that were conducted a couple weeks back and see the difference. I doubt it'll make any earth-shattering difference but it might be interesting to see the results. Otherwise, the mouse has been pretty good in my experience.

When I had the mouse, having discord open would cause stutters in apex like you've showed in your footage. Closing discord literally made 8k work fine in apex even with fast flicks, which is really weird because 8k with discord open would be fine in other games. HW acceleration and overlay are off so I'm not really sure why discord makes 8k stutter, but yep, it did for me. Would be interested to see if anyone else can try closing discord and see if that'll fix the stuttering issue in apex and/or other games.

just received mine today, it's amazing so far! The 8khz isn't really the big reason why i bought it, just needed a new mouse cause i had the lancehead for 5 years now. Out of the box the clicks are crisp af and i quite like the shape of it, although just a bit a flat. The cable is also pretty nice, it's light and can barely feel it when im dragging around the mouse. A huge difference from the stiff cable of the lancehead.

But tbh I really couldn't tell that much of an notable difference during Fps gaming compared to other top tier mice with standard 1k polling rate like the Glorious Model-O Wireless, & the Gpro SuperlightX that's currently my Main. And like he said it will all come down to the size & shape of the mouse & how well, and good feels in your hand. Would be really cool if somehow you could retro fit the 8K sensor from the Viper into the shell of the SuperlightX.

[07:45] Thanks for the detailed review! It's interesting to see how the 8,000Hz polling rate and optical switches impact the gaming experience. I appreciate the slow-motion footage to demonstrate cursor consistency; that's something I hadn't considered before.
[04:29] It's a bit puzzling that the polling rate for the switches is locked, and there's no discernible difference in click to display latency. I wonder why that is.
[03:31] The optical switches do seem to offer a noticeable advantage in click latency, even though the polling rate doesn't affect them as expected.
[00:41] The concept of 8,000Hz polling rate providing a more accurate and responsive mouse input is intriguing, especially when you break it down to samples per frame on a high-refresh-rate monitor. It's definitely a unique selling point.
[05:52] I agree that while these technical improvements are impressive, the most critical factor in choosing a gaming mouse is still its shape and how comfortable it feels during extended gaming sessions.
[07:16] Razer's dedication to pushing the envelope in gaming mouse technology is commendable, even if not every gamer may benefit from it. I'm curious to see where they take this tech in the future.
Overall, your review provides valuable insights into the Razer Viper 8K. Thanks for sharing your experiences!

Would love to see you compare some MMO grid mice in detail.. the market for them isn't huge but I know some people, myself included who just can't live without one. In desktop mode I use the buttons for navigation macros like switching tabs, refreshing, forward/back and media controls.. and games that have number row based weapon/tool switching it's a godsend.
Right now the only real options for 12 button grids are:
Razer Naga (in all it's versions, the original and most popular option)
Corsair Scimitar (friend of mine says it's miles ahead of his Naga but I've never used one)
    Logitech G600
    Redragon M901/908/913
    And my current personal favourite:
Utechsmart Venus/Venus Pro (I have the pro and while it's not perfect, the software and wireless responsiveness are better than any Razer mouse I've used before)
There is also the Mad Catz MMO TE but the grid is only 11 buttons with 3/5/4 in each row with a weird alignment.
For wireless there is only the Naga Epic, Redragon M913 and Utechsmart Venus Pro..

I have the base Razer Viper (not the 8K model) and it's already, by far, my favourite mouse (I've been through R.A.T mice by Madcatz, some Corsair mice, some Steelseries mice and also own a Glorious model O). Fits perfectly in my hand, the weight is just right, and when I changed from the Steelseries to this one I litterally could see my K/D ratio improve overnight as the mouse really fits me a lot better. The 8K model actually isn't much more expensive that the base model, so it sounds like a good choice to me!

Update on my experience with the mouse, amazing mouse, though mostly struggling past 4khz polling rate in most games. Running 2khz is flawless, but as time goes on testing both Deathadder V3 Wired and Viper 8khz on updated fps games seeing as more and more are supporting higher polling. All I can say is, never going back to 1khz polling, it may be so minor but I definitely feel off or behind when engaging in gunfights. Keeping 2khz or moving up to 4khz, and yes I do believe it's more reacting that wireless 4khz but not enough for someone who has never experienced either wired or wireless higher polling

I recently purchased the Viper 8K, before that I just used my Logitech MX 3 for work and gaming. I think the MX 3 is 125hz polling so the switch was instantly noticeable, it is way smoother on tracking shoots, glides smoothly and after a little getting used too, I have seen better results in games. If I could only have one mouse I would still use a professional mouse, because for work in Blender, Premiere, Lightroom, I find the heavier, more functional mouse to be much easier to work with, and since Razer Software bricked my iMac Pro, if I didn't have a dedicated gaming PC I wouldn't use it at all, word of caution to my Mac brethren.

I really like the Viper 8k so much so I was mad I had to get my 1st viper 8K rma after 4 months of ownership. While I was waiting on the replacement mouse I had to fall back to my logitech g403 and I could feel the difference right away. Thankfully only took Razer 8 days to send a replacement.
I think its a great mouse to own and isn't too expensive but you have to take these things into consideration before you pull the trigger on getting this mouse.
    1. Is it the right shape for your hand?
    2. High refresh rate monitor- 240Hz minimum to even begin to tell/feel a difference with the 8000Hz polling rate
    3. 8000Hz increases cpu usage. I have a Ryzen 9 3900X(12 core cpu) and while mouse is at 8000Hz polling rate cpu usage goes to 18%.
The recommended hardware from Razer is Intel i5 8600K/AMD R5 3600 and Nvidia GTX 1080/AMD RX 5700
    4. Have the mouse plugged in all by itself on a separate usb controller from the rest of your usb device(not plugged in right beside each other). Having other things plug in on the same usb controller while mouse is at 8000Hz causes issues.
So for example I only have 3 usb devices connected to my pc. Viper 8K, Corsair K100(also at 8000Hz polling), Tascam Model 12. K100 and Viper 8k are connected to back of motherboard but both on different usb controllers while the Tascam Model 12 is plug into my 2080 Ti usb c port. Wish newer gpus still had usb c port on them.
Only way this mouse could be better is if there was a wireless viper 8k.

The mice which I'm looking at is Razer Viper 8000hz which is 71g. While there is another lighter weighted mouse called Razer Viper Mini which has 1000hz polling rate and weighs only 61g. Which one would be the better option for competitive FPS gaming considering that fact that my monitor is only 165hz?

How would a (hypothetical) polling rate of 100,000hz feel, since the time is so infinitesimal would it feel weird or would it feel like you're moving your hand itself, I was going to say a higher polling rate but there's somewhat a limit even with these absurd questions.

Hey man, Pro quake player K1llsen said he loves the smoothness of 8khz, but that when trying to keep 360frams for his monitor, 8k make sit less stable. Would you mind doing a video on rather this is true or not? Could be a problem with 8khz until systems get noticeable faster; only for people playing with hiiiiigh fps though. thanks!

  • @feeblemind

i dont see a wireless 8k for a long time. I think there's lot of tech limits that prevent going past 1k atm and it'll probably be awhile before we see 8k. I personally think weight is more of a factor in your ability to aim so the fact this thing is 71 grams still is a deal breaker. I actually really loved the viper ultimate shape ( more than my superlight for sure ) but its too heavy and going from a lighter mouse to it you can feel the weight and it throws you off for awhile. If razer can get this down to like 40-50 grams with this tech id buy it instantly.

I just got the viper 8k, and i gotta say its much smoother than my old one, probably due to the fact that that was really bad, anyways, i am sticking to 1000hz in synapse, since i noticed some cpu lag spikes while using 8k in some games and the games which i normally play, for example valorant are not working with 8kz polling rate. Its a really good mouse tho, love the shape and pretty light

I use the viper 8k, and I can feel a very big difference when compared to other mice or even lowering the polling rate. It might be because I use high sensitivity and I play extremely fast paced, but the difference is large enough to where I hate using other mice.

have seen your previous methodology vid and AAA+ on the effort. But at this point, how much can your testing setup resolve? if you were expecting 8ms improvement on the input lag and measured practically none, can it be the case that the experiment itself isn't sensitive enough?

if youre talking about the mouse click test, the viper 8khz runs at 8khz for all the buttons. changing the hz in the settings only affects the sensor

I got one about six months ago along with a 270hz panel. It's nice. I run it @4000hz because 8000hz caused issues in certain games. I hear your gripe about the shape. I think that if it were a bit taller it would feel better in the hand too.

Have had this product since February. I switched from a Cooler Master MM711 to this and ultimately, I felt the slight difference in how reactive it can be when running the 8khz polling rate. Also, the optical switches against mechanical are a great improvement because I did have that bounce trouble many times with the MM711. Not only does Apex act up with the 8khz, Fortnite has acted up on my end as well with the frame rate stutters along with Master Chief Collection and Gears 5 so with those titles, I dumb down to 2khz. But Call of Duty, Battlefield, Bullet Storm, Horizon Zero Dawn work fluid. So I do agree that it can still be about engine limitations.

    • @zazabean23
      @zazabean23 2 ปีที่แล้ว

It has nothing to do with engine limitations. Only people who don't understand what engines these games run would say that. It's 100% a users fault, and lack of understanding. If all of your cores are maxed out, and the 8khz is constantly overloading them it will cause stuttering. Optimize your OS, or go back to console my guy.

    • @Chr1s747
      @Chr1s747 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@zazabean23 Thank you for informing me but don't be an ass about it. I simply agreed that it may be engine limitations since the person who made the video considers it being possible engine limitations at around the 5:27 mark so if you can't comprehend why I said that, then maybe you should actually watch what you're commenting under instead of just coming out the gates and attacking people over it.

I might be wrong, but I think the polling rate has to do with the sensor position while a click event sends a CPU interrupt. So that could be why there is no difference between the polling rates tested and the click latency.

Wish they'd push their build quality as much as they push the tech.
DeathAdder Elite mouse survived 2 years before the rubber and coating started to peel off; the OG Viper mouse lasted about a year and a bit before I had the mid button none-or-double click. At least the 2016 BlackWidow keyboard survived 4 whole years before switches began to fail.

  • @seancasgamer
    @seancasgamer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

This is a solid mouse. I like the Razer Viper shape and the fact that the Vipers are a true ambidextrous mouse (I'm left-handed) is a big plus - something like the Model O or the Logitech Superlight don't work for me because there are no side mouse buttons on the right side of the body.
I am one of those weirdos that also likes cabled peripherals - I have a wired mouse, headset, and even my Bluetooth keyboard stays plugged in because I just hate having to charge things, so the Viper 8K is great.
Then you toss in the fact that it's about 60% cheaper the Viper Ultimate and you have a winner.
And honestly, I thought the "smoother" stuff would be marketing fluff, but you can legitimately feel the difference when you're using it all day every day and then switch to a regular 500Hz or 1000Hz mouse - it feels slower and a bit jankier on the screen.

Have you looked into NC/NO or SPDT switches? Mechanical switch that are SPDT and wired correctly should be lagless. In fact the switches you changed on your mouse *are* SPDT, its just that its used as a SPST switch. Also, even SPST (conventional) switches can be debounced quickly using an eager algorithm
