  • Doing the laundry the old fashioned way after washer breaks. Only, I'm using city water. Actually pretty fun, and fast! You gotta ring out that rinse really well.

    Back in the 80's I had five little ones, no washer, and a hard time putting all that in the car to drive to the laundromat. So I made life easier for all of us. I bought a washboard like my momma had back in her day & washed everything in the bathtub. Put up a clothesline, and of course the sun dried it all up in no time. This left me with more precious time to spend with my little ones. They're all grown now and I still dry my clothes on a clothesline in the summer, hoping not to make too much of a negative impact on mother earth with a dryer.

      Yup Sun is an energy and the natural disinfectant. So why not use what is already free! Btw, Did you wash by your hands or with that same tool?

    Been washing my clothes like that for years. The blue plunger is called a breathing mobile washer over at Amazon. It really gets the clothes clean when used with warm water and soap.

    I love doing my laundry...I’ve been doing it since the age of 12. My mom did wash stuff then, but one day, I just started to wash my own clothes & eventually, everybody else’s stuff too. I even love washing my dirty dishes & pots by hand. I kinda like this video🙄🧺🚰✌🏼

    About wringing the clothes
    Super easy. We spent 100$ and got a classic mop bucket with the wringer type that sits inserted on the side/ check for the grooved slots to insert the actual wringer push- handle set. The two pieces come as a set/ Amazon 100$
    -Classic yellow plastic floor mop bucket and wringer. We use it EXCLUSIVELY for wash. Not for floors or dirty mops. Nope. M. Illinois

    I did this exact way...only it was in my cheapo apartment in the city. I enjoyed it and even though I've moved and now I can afford to go to the laundry mat, I still like to handbag my underwear and socks this way at home. ❤

    Back in the eighties I did the same thing but I put the the trash cans out in the sun let the sun shine heated the water and then plunged it and then hang it up dry

    I've been considering getting a few of those washtubs in case of power outages and things. I've done some checking and looked for those hand crank wringers one could attach to the side of a washtub. My wrists aren't as strong as they used to be.
    Loved the music

    I use the plunger to push the water out in the drainage buckets. Wrists and hands get old and achy in your 30s if you hand wring Lol

      Was thinking the same thing. That would get out a lot of extra water. Would rather have a wringer though.

      I saw a man put holes in a bucket, hang it from a string tied to a tree,.. he SPUN IT FAST and called it the spin cycle .. hey it worked 🤣😂 but before he did that he put the holy bucket on the ground , put the clothes at the bottom.. put another 5gallon bucket inside the holy one and sat on that one to squish the water out. Hope this makes sense I’m bad at explaining

    $10. At a coin laundry for small medium load including drying. Say $20. A month saves money.

    thank you nice video, just a guess if you had just ONLY one wash tub full how long would it take? agitate time, rince time, dump that water fill rince . ring hang .20 minutes 30? just wondering thanks merry christmas be safe

    • @thehiddenhaven5486
      @thehiddenhaven5486  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi, thanks. I usually only have 4 loads at a time. I washed two loads in the same water, then dumped, and filled with rinse water, rinsed those two loads, then dumped, and washed and rinsed the next two. I agitated each load for about 5 mins, then it took probably 5 to ring out each load, (wash and rinse) so i guess in all, including hanging up the clothes, it took me about 1 hour and 30 mins. I don't do this anymore. I did this for a few weeks while waiting for a new washer after the old one broke. I think though, if I had a wringer I might do it more often, it's kind of fun.

    Anyone noticing the amount of 21 century products in background? Manufactured plastic bins buckets plunger laundary detergent hoses. They sure do move with the times. Why not use a handcrank washer machine? Or a dryer drum attached to bicylce rotating it iver a fire? Honestly i was acutially looking forward to true old fashioned where perhaps made soap and or using lye blocks. Ive seen some people doing this exact same thing in some section 8 housing when i was growing up living with my mom.with far less materials.

    And I left the sheets in the dryer for the night because my back hurts. I got a lot of other stuff done today but still. Are you doing this because you want to or because you have to? At least you allow yourself running water. I half expected you to fetch the water from a legit well or pump.

    • @thehiddenhaven5486
      @thehiddenhaven5486  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is hard. I needed a wringer or a spinner, but this worked ok. I did this because our washer broke, and we were waiting to get a new one.

    Im Spoiled 🤫 but my mother and I took a trip to see my mothers family in Brazil and Venezuela I was 18 yrs old first time leaving my country USA 🇺🇸 and these 2 countries are so far behind it’s sad it’s much worse now I’m sure 😮 are you choosing to live this way ????

      That trip must have been quite the eye opener for you. We forget how privileged we are in North America. I don't actually live like this, I only did this for a few weeks when our washer broke. I do enjoy doing things the old fashioned way though, it's a more relaxing life, which is weird to say because it doesn't seem like it would be, but it is. Thanks for your comment.
