Bread Pudding is my favorite dessert and blueberries are one of my favorite fruits, the title alone was a revelation. So, this was the dessert I've been missing out on all these years.
Love how Chef John allows variations on the method which makes you feel like it's totally ok to swerve a little out of one's lane and still get a great result
Why does YT hate Chef John? It's been months since I saw one of his videos in my recommendations. I have to keep searching my subscriptions to find them. Curse you TH-cam! I need my Chef John.

I just love the way this guy presents his videos. They're all so very charming, fun, informative, and encouraging. I'm totally gonna try this version the next time I make bread pudding.
I was thinking about a bread pudding (had stale bread earmarked for croutons) and then I remembered I also had blueberries that I intended to use for mini pies... and here I am. Thanks, Chef John, glad to know you are one step ahead! 👍
I love how I watch any given Chef John video til the end and go to hit the like and realize it's already blue, so I already have. That's what I call time warp food video effect.
Pfft, ahah. There's no way to run out of ideas with cooking. Go to your library. Look in the cookbooks. There's probably even a metric cookbook lurking in there. But we've been making bread and beer since the dawn of civility.
For those like myself that might have issues combined with what's going on in the world today leave it to Chef John to pick up our spirits. He may see himself as an instructor of food preparation, but I see him as much more than that. Now if I can just figure out what I did with that container of my Cinnamon mix it'd be all good.
At my grandmother's (UK long, long time ago) dinner was called tea and consisted of cold stuffs and salads, table laid up with plates of sliced, buttered bread. Any left over bread made into pudding with currants, usually a treat for the children. Very nostalgic, up there with bubble and squeak.
Lil sob story so avoid if needed Both my parents passed within the past year but they were massive cooks, I can do savory dishes all day but I suck when it comes to sweets, my mom could makes them all day, light, fluffy, sweet, you did this blueberry crumble that would make the soul melt, add some good vanilla ice cream *chefs kiss*
Mmmmm my mouth is watering. Not had bread and butter pudding for years. It was a family favourite when I was a kid. My Mum used raisins instead of blueberries and she did sprinkle brown sugar on the top and it went all crunchy and delicious. Sometimes she served it with pouring cream, other times with custard. Both delicious!! I love the idea of using blueberries. Bet it would be good with blackberries too 😋
My wife makes the best whiskey sauce to put on her bread pudding, she doesn’t use blueberries though. I’m going to show her this recipe and try it with her whiskey sauce I hope!

That looks awesome and since I already make a lot of bread pudding I'm going to try it yer way and use up some of the many bags of blueberries in my freezer! Thank you.
I've never dried out my bread when making bread pudding, it's always creamy and tastes like a gorgeous baked custard mixed with the buttery bread taste. Though adding blueberries might be an interesting kick to it instead of raisons.
That is such a beautiful loaf of bread. The heels of the bread on a loaf like that is heavenly. Apple bread puddings are incredible, any sort of berry pudding, peach bread pudding. It's pretty much impossible to have a bad fruity bread pudding.
Many years ago, Safeway used to sell a twin-pack of challah bread pudding with raisins in their frozen dessert section. They came in miniature bundt forms and would cook up in about 15-18 minutes at 350 degrees. Delicious, especially with a spoonful of funky, dark rum poured over before popping them out of the forms. Of course they were discontinued.
Made this today. OMG, this is soooo good. I've learned to follow Chef John's instructions, so the texture was PERFECT. I didn't have lemon so I used lime zest. I think it added another dimension of flavor. Making this one again for sure, best Bread pudding is right.
I made a quarter recipe split into 2 ramekins. It came out great. The smell from the oven reminded me of french toast, so I made some maple syrup whipped cream as a topping. Add in some home made lemon ice cream and I had a happy Fourth of July.
Gotta give this a try, does this look good or what. Love bread pudding. Really enjoy your channel, your video instructions are second to none, excellent photography, excellent editing. Thanks for going to all the trouble you do to show how it’s done, thank you. From Missouri

Your right bread pudding is better cooled off in the fridge , it's one of the first things i learnt to cook as a child , yours looks great with the blueberrys :) ours were layered with buttered bread building as you go an not dried , if it weren't for the sugar yours would be healthier lol but i guess butter is food to hey , i'm going to try the blueberry cause i have a bag sitting in the freezer an getting tired of blueberry clafouti Thx Chef John :)

Hey Chef John, you might, someday, try the top layer, made with a certain Ca based grocery store, that has amazing cinnamon bread, house brand cinnamon bread. Just another great addition to your wonderful blueberry bread pudding. thank you so much for sharing your pandemic days with us. We made almost every one of your episodes. They were so much fun.
I was just thinking how close this is to French toast with blueberries. Interesting how the same ingredients for one thing can make something completely different :D

k thx Chef John for the blueberry idea, i made it yesterday turned out great, i wanted a lemon flavour in the pudding part so made lemon curd and substituted about half a cup of that for milk, the reason for the lemon curd was to prevent curdling and give a very strong lemon flavour, it was a two egg pudding to so one eight of yours , i'm old don't eat much lol, so was six slices of fresh bread, i don't think stale bread makes a good pudding considering the tiny amount of moisture in bread anyway, and using whole slices allowed me to butter and sugar the top slices, anyway if you love blueberrys as i do it's a wonderful way to use them no matter how you tweak it to your tastes and Thx again :)
I made a fresh compote from berrues I picked....wonder if I can use this instead of the fresh berries?? This looks so delicious! I don't think there is any reason you couldn't use your compote. If you added sugar to compote which I am assuming you did you might want to consider reducing the sugar in the custard a bit or the overall sweetness level might be a bit over the top. Just to save you some time... you know he offers the full written recipe now will all these videos right? Link is in the description.
