The list of software/apps as suggested in this video are: 1. Reference manager: Mendeley 2. Data analysis: R 3. Writing: Latex 4. Productivity: Forest 5. Notes taking: Evernote 6. Graphics: Inkscape
Word is more versatile than you give it credit for in producing a large paper. If you take the time to construct a template on the frontside, you can zip through final document production. I used it to produce US Army TM 33.31, "Cold Weather Maintenance Operations." I used PowerPoint and MS Paint for all the graphics.
As a future microbiologist, I highly appreciate all the videos that you posted. It gives me a good idea how the phd program is like. I would love to see more videos about your phd life!!
If you enjoyed R, you should check out R Studio. The differences are subtle but it improves the overall experience. Also thank you for highlighting the shortcomings of MS Word. I was a strong proponent of it, but wasn't aware of these limitations.
Thanks for the suggestions! I'v been putting off R for far too long so this summer I'm finally going to sit down and commit. Congratulations on handing in your thesis.
Thank you...I am a prospecting PhD student and I find your video very interesting. I hope you will not mind me dropping by to ask a few questions along my journey. Thank you.
Hi Chantel, it is so good to hear these things from you. I am currently in my fourth year of PhD (Tropical diseases) and it is hard to stay seated in front of my PC

Just discovered your channel. It's great and I and have subscribed. Do you have any software suggestions for linking GPS data to field data points using a cell phone? Thank you.
Good. If you could do a vid to explain about how to map concept connections between source docs that would be great. You mentioned about having a great idea that you forget about by the end - that is an area of efficiency I can improve upon. All projects are time constrained and I find a ton of material either unused or on the "editing room floor" after all the work to find and review such source docs.
Hi, I'm really enjoying you're videos to be go PhD student! And I wonder what is the template you're using when you show your Evernote working. Did you make that template by yourself?

Hi! thank you for sharing this, very insightful! And you look like the grown up version Harper Beckham 😄
Good.

I'll try do a video on that in the future :)
Mind Maps can be used to map the connections between concepts, but there were dedicated concept mapping apps out there that could be had for free.
