I never get tired of Family Feud TH-cam moments. FWIW, I like both Richard Dawson and Steve Harvey. Let them be themselves. Some might think Steve is a bit over the top when comparing him to Richard. But, I think he's hilarious especially with his facial expressions at shocking answers. As for Richard, some people who were not around during the 70s and 80s might think he's creepy with the kisses. As a Gen Xer who grew up in that time period, I can tell you that a kiss was much more innocuous back then. In 2020, its become more taboo with more awareness of sexual harassment. Not saying one time period is better. It is what it is.
It became a shit show after Ray Combs.
On an interview on TH-cam, Richard said he kissed the women for luck and nothing else.

@Dingle Barry They increased the timer to 20 and 25 seconds in the latest version. Even though Harvey speaks slower, I feel it's more fair. 15 seconds is too less; I wonder how they used to manage.

I can't stand it when they ask a loaded question and Harvey pretends to be shocked. Then he makes a comment dirtier than the contestant's answer. That's why I don't watch "Family" Feud anymore. It's not a "family" show anymore.

The difference between Richard Dawson and Steve Harvey is that Dawson’s laughter was genuine because the questions weren’t funny but the stupid answers were. With Harvey the questions are set-ups for crazy answers and it’s not genuine spur of the moment laughter.

Why does this guy kiss the girls on the show? Is that something that was popular back then or something?
According to Dawson, he would kiss the female contestants as a sign of wishing them luck and love, and to also help quell their nerves about being on television. The kissing on the show was consensual for the contestants, and the viewers overwhelmingly liked it (source: "Hogan's Heroes: The Unofficial Companion" - PAGE 103)
When he briefly returned to host the show in the '90s, his young daughter insisted that the only woman he should kiss is her mother, so he stopped doing so.
I think it has less to do with that and more that he was respecting the wishes of his then-4-year-old daughter. The original show from the 70s-80s had contestants fill out questionnaires asking if they were okay with him kissing them, and I imagine that should they have chosen to continue that practice into the 90s, they would have done the same process.
Richard Dawson was known as the "Kissing Bandit." Not only did he kiss the ladies on Family Feud, he did the same on the first five years of The Match Game with Gene Rayburn.

Everything is dummed down these days.
Back then didn't seem to be that bad an issue. Always like the fact too even if Dawson didn't really cause an issue in bonus round always gave benefit of doubt to contestants. Today she would have never would have the opportunity to get rose in as an answer, and don't think carnation would have won it for them.
And yet plenty of families still won the cash in the end; even with the 15-second limit.
People are dumber now.
