This was really great information. I'd never heard about EQ bank, but I will be looking into what they have to offer; especially given that I am US and not Canadian (although I'd like to move to Canada). Anyway, I've been doing the Emergency Fund thing for a number of years. It started from an insatiable desire to deposit money in a credit union account. I was so startled to see how much money I'd saved in 5 months ($8,000+) I'd decided to challenge myself to see if I could actually budget and save more than $10K. It took off from that point. Great information, and Keep Grinding.

Thank you Reni. Quick question. If EQ Bank is a HISA, they also have a TFSA, so does that mean if I keep my cash in the HISA I pay taxes or what amount will attract taxes? I wanted to keep my emergency funds in the TFSA but it had a limit of $6500. Thanks for always
Hey Michael! This is correct, all income is considered taxable. But remember you are only paying taxes on the interest, not on the whole amount. So if your interest is $50 for the year, that's all you're paying taxes on!

I started an emergency fund when I was 16, put $20 a week away. Helped me a lot during down times. Even if it's $5 just put SOMETHING away!
