I was 8 in 1980 and I got a brand new one for helping muster sheep with my dad on our farm in the Highlands of New South Wales. I loved this bike. I rode it hard until about 13 then moved onto a bigger bike. It sat in the shed for nearly 15 years and once it had all fresh fluids and a new spark plug in it started after 2 kicks. Thanks for this video just hearing the sound of it brought back great memories of me, my bike and a .22 slung over my shoulder. Good times.
Good to see, I have a Suzuki TC125 from 1972, I got it for free from a dude i know, needed new points, condenser and coil as well as me welding the kick starter back together and cleaning the oil pump. It runs well considering the top end is bad due to previous owner running without air filter. I plan to get new top end, repaint, tidy up etc when I get older and have more money, I'm only 16. Btw it's the one with the dual range gearbox. Low range 1st gear can climb anything, it's awesome
This was my first dirtbike. Mine was a 73. I just sold it to a buddy. There fun little bikes. They made a street legal version also called the gt80. The holes on the fenders that are plugged are where the lights went. There is a blank plug on the left side of the engine where the speedo cable goes
Ah fun vid! My first dirt bike was a 1980 Yammy MX 100 I bought new when I was 16. Paid for it with my paper route money. $600. Been through a lot of bikes since then and now have a '18 KTM 690 Enduro R.
Thats cool, had a riding buddy in the day with a first gen Mini-Enduro Yamaha. Be cool to see it restored, you guys are doing great thanks for sharing!
The fuel tap has a filter screen inside of it that can be cleaned out but you can fit a finer grade microfine paper filter to remove all of the contaminants !
Nice bike you guys, I just sold mine back in June. I’m not very well versed on these, but the one I had was the gt80, essentially the same bike except mine was street legal. I don’t know if the mx80s were or not but it would be cool to find out and add back all the lights to make it legal again.
I got a gt80 for free and I'm looking to restore it to make it street legal. I know urs is gt80 but they're built the same way besides wires and lil details. Mine got the optional 5 speed on it.
@@fenixfurona9577 I have no idea. Apparently it was an option at yamaha when the model was still in production or something. The guy took it there and got it an extra gear
Hi i am documenting my own GT80MX restoration and as introduction of how good condition units are I would like to include a small footage of yours running. Should be only be like a two seconds take of something like what is happening at minute 3:00 . Would you be Ok with that? I can include a link to this video in the description.
my co-worker Nick Walker Has The Same Kind Of Bike 1981 Yamaha GT 80 2-Stroke same Color He Drove It To Work Everyday But His Seat Was So Brown And Rusty and Very Smokey When It Drives It IT Was Blowing A lot Of Blue Smoke Everywhere

I prefer 2 wheels to 4... except in the snow :) cause it's like flying

I love my little gt 80 but I'm trying 2 figure out if I can put a different carburetor on it if so please let me know 🙏🏻
Where’d you guys get the parts for the bike. I’m having trouble finding the carburetor gasket that goes on the bowl
Cool little bike I'm hopefully gonna score one this week for $100. Needs a little tune up I'm hoping
Can I get a quote on fixing one of these through a dealership? It may have the same problems as yours did but it doesn’t run. Any ideas?
Nice going!
That's a really great bike, btw. I've seen them turned into GP racers....
Did you check the vin and where if you did i have one like that and cant figuire out what it is for parts.

Edit. I meant urs is an mx80
I wanna swap a 5 speed into my gt80 any idea where to get the parts I’d need?

You should enter that in the Cars & Camera's off road bash that's coming up later in the year :-)
Resto + big bore kit please!
Damn. I thought I got a good deal paying 375 for mine. And it’s wayyyy rougher. Excited to get it going tho
can I throw lights and battery on this? Would the stator support charging?
The GTs came with lights and electrical stuff on them from factory I believe
I wouldn't trust the oil injector, just mix the gas & oil
Can you make a snow kart

Probably not the best idea to be wearing shorts, especially while riding on a gravel road...
What’s upppo
Good question. I can’t find a definition for upppo in the dictionary
