@@WaveRider1989 From a police's standpoint, He is still a murderer and he hid evidences that were targeted towards him. So basically he is a criminal in the police language. Morality wise, Georgekutty is a hero for saving his family from a potential rapist. But morality won't always intersect with law and thats the theme of this whole movie. IG was basically doing his job by solving an unsolved puzzle to save the reputation of the whole department. He couldn't simply go "I would rather ignore death of a pervert than saving the department".

For IG Bastin, Georgekutty is a classic criminal. But to the audience, Georgekutty is "a classic genius" (or "Midukkaril Midukkan" as I would put it in Malayalam) who saved his family from the trap of corrupt police.
