- (27 Nov 2016) The first results of the Kuwait parliamentary elections started coming in on Sunday morning.
Former parliament house speaker, Marzouq al-Ghanim, is one of the 10 candidates competing to represent the 2nd district in Kuwait.
He won the highest number of votes in his district, winning 4,109, the election committee announced.
Kuwait's ruler dissolved parliament by royal decree in October over unspecified security concerns as low oil prices squeeze government coffers, setting the stage for early elections in the tiny country.
Kuwait has a population 3.9 million with 1.4 million of them nationals of Kuwait. But only 483,000 are registered to vote in this election.
