  • Welcome to Shashamane, Ethiopia - a place known for its vibrant Rastafarian community. Here, members of the Rastafari movement from around the world have made their home, drawn by the idea of returning to their African roots.
In the 1960s, Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie I granted land in Shashamane to the African diaspora, inviting them to return to Africa. Since then, this community has thrived, embracing Rastafarian beliefs, culture, and way of life.
Walking through the streets of Shashamane, you'll see colorful murals depicting scenes of Rastafarian culture, hear reggae music playing in the background, and feel a sense of unity among the community members.
The Rastafarian community in Shashamane is not just a place to live - it's a spiritual journey, a way of life that connects its members to their African heritage and to each other.
As you explore Shashamane, you'll meet people from all walks of life, united by their faith, their love for Ethiopia, and their commitment to living in harmony with nature.

I came to Shashamene firstly in 1997. A beautiful place of culture and Caribbean people...not only Rastafarians, but Garveyites & conscious people....
I have since been to Ethiopia several times after, latest being in 2018, where I spent more time in the North of the country and a some time in Addis Ababa.
My deep■ concern■ is regarding the INFRASTRUCTURES.... in inner-city Shashamene, is: ■ WHY almost 30 YEARS LATER, these roads are NOT properly paved and drains and proper drainage NOT developed ? The goverment needs to do better and the locals create a council fighting for more development.
Addis Ababa is an extremely modern● city■ with hugh buildings, hotels , businesses and clean, paved roads....there is NO reason WHY the inner parts of Shashamene are not more developed today & sanitation measures and proper garbage disposals, not in place. Enough foreigners live here to fight● for that cause.

BrownBoy, In Africa, it's not always about money; people love to see new people, which they call forengi. They love to enjoy new experiences. Be friendly while staying alert, but don't push people directly away, thinking there is always money they want from you, as they may want to greet you, speak to you, or be around you. Easy up a bit with the locals. This way, you can enjoy more new experiences.

I think to solve this pressing issue with some of the diaspora feeling out of place whether they decide to relocate to the Caribbean or Africa. For those who do choose to want to live in African for instance I think the African government should designate a large piece of land where the people of the diaspora could bring their skills in order for them to start from scratch and build their own city. This would then resolve the problem once and for all because the diaspora would have more in common with each other and could solve common issues together in appose to them being taken advantage of in other situations etc. I hope I’m making sense or you understand where I’m coming from bro.

27:00 - 27:56 Ffs, what he was trying to say is rastafari chants are the same as hymns and many relate to Psalm or verses from scripture. Rastafari believe existence manifested by word of the all mighty or sound and vibration (hence the emphasis on good vibes [i.e. good vibrations] in rastafari culture). Chanting is to bring in to existence the power of the all mighty to cleanse one of sin and guide one to righteousness (if that is the right word). I.e. bring one (or i) = humanity and one's self, to live in harmony with nature with no immorality. Basically to live by the highest standards you can interpret from the bible (Ethiopian version the original version in ge'ez). Rastafari recognise their cultural and historical heritage of their African decent as a whole. And regard the biblical text as historical and somewhat mystical. But rastafari view the world with regard to anything biblical that this is the time of Revelations in the bible following the fulfilment of Revelations 5 And 5: Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.”
The Root of David = By the Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah, His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Elect of God.
What must be remmembered is rastafari movement's particular aims are to reserve colonialism and in morden day neo-colonialism. I think that has been forgotten by most it is not just about biblical and nature. Rastafari movement has a real political and societal aim and purpose of which is ideological to be achieved without the need for armed conflict.

One thing that you should know from outset is the so called "Rastafarian religion" is not known in Ethiopia. The person who was called "Ras Tafari" was believer of orthodox church (which is a mix of Judaism and Christianity). He is not from Judah as they are claiming. He is from Oromo in Ethiopia rather. He became king for uncivilized majority of Ethiopians at that time. The religious controversy is only an illusion from few Jamaicans (hallucination) or fantasy after smoking a series of weeds. Their manifesto is an imitation and copy paste from Holy Bible (Jesus Christ, the real Lion of Judah). Similarly, the Muslims (Mohammed followers) did same thing.

🧶Misinformation. Our Emperor was not from Oromo background. He was from Amara background. His Faith was an Ethiopian Orthodox Christian. Yes, his Kingdom came from Solomoic Heritage. It is written in the Bible. That is why, he is called 'The Lion of Judah.' You can deny that as you like! Because you are an Oromo Banda! Anti Hailesellasie and the Amara Nation! Stop your Black Propoganda! No one believes You! We Ethiopians see Ra's Teferi as Our Human Emperor, not God. But, the Jamaican considers him as their God. Hopefully, they will come to believe in the Real God of Israel. However, We Ethiopians love Our Jamaican Brothers and Sisters dearly! But, you stop spreading your Black Propoganda! Ra's Teferi is not an Oromo. But from Shewa Province, Amara background born in Harar! Period! 🦁🔥

No Misinformation! Ra's Tafari was from Shewa Amara background! Not an Oromo. He was also from the Solomoic Heritage. It is in the Bible. Period.

It's not safe to travel to Ethiopia.
Rebels are 200 miles from the city and closing in.
The country is going to collapse.
Save your life and avoid Ethiopia.

U all need to beautify the place, on the outside u could plant beautiful flowers and trees along the road way, it looks too BARE and DRY! Your place need a SERIOUS FACE LIFT. Why not join or organized a RASTAFARIANS Association and get some dedicated men and women contributing to the building of the community.
