If the electric is still on, somebody is paying the bill. Check with the electric company to see who it is. Having electricity in that mess is a fire hazard.
This reminds me, when I was a kid in the 80s, there was an old abandoned house down the street from me, and I eventually had to check it out and see what was there. It was amazing too, this place was abandoned maybe in the late 40s or early 50s, and everything was left behind. TVs radios clothes, the whole kitchen and bathroom, it was like the owners just never came home one day. The TV was a very early model, it was wooden, of course, but it was one of the small very rounded type of screens. The clothes looked like 1940s or earlier. Out behind this house was an old barn that was partially caved in. And all these x-rays scattered on the ground, of horse teeth, so I assume the owner was a vet of some kind. I also found a book in there too... I was young so I didn't realize back then what I was looking at. It was cool AF as I understood it, like my own personal time capsule or museum. But that book I found in the barn, it was all in German. Only had a symbol on it. So as an adult, I really wish I could know what the story was there. I had no idea how rare of a find this was.

Oh, and another thing, I don’t think there was any homeless person in there because you were walking through the door and you were walking through cobwebs and they would’ve made a path to the house instead of walking through everything like it was
Really brought back memories, because I used to look in old abandoned places, I've seen a few of them like that , with alot of stuff left behind, it's sorta weird. Maybe they won the lotto. 😸
I would say the family died and could be issues with the kids and the bank. So, the bank owns the house (which why maybe the power is running). There is abandoned house where I live at, and the bank owns it. The grass is tall and signs on windows "no trespassing"
I live in Pearland TX which is a suburban town outside of Houston TX and this is similar to what happened near me down the street where an elderly couple died. I remember that all the personal documents and photographs went to the immediate family and the other personal belongings that were left behind were sold by an estate sale company. They had no kids and they left no will so the everything went to the estate and they had 3 pet dogs that they owned 2 died and 1 was given for adoption.
I think the home may have belonged to an elderly couple, or a widow. If the owner died, or was put in a nursing home by her children because she couldn't care for herself, most of her belongings would have to stay behind in the house. This looked as if her children went through and took what they wanted, knowing she could never come back. If the home is still owned by someone in a nursing home, in Texas, the law is that in order to have Medicaid pay for the nursing home, the home cannot be sold, or rented (otherwise the patient would have too much "income" to qualify for having the Medicaid benefits). The result is that the house sets empty. If the family lives in another state, or a long distance away, the house just sits, and eventually begins to deteriorate. The utilities are also required to be turned on, because the insurance company wouldn't cover the house otherwise. The family probably intends to eventually sell the property, once they inherit it, so they keep the property insured.
I really would love to know the story behind this place and you might be on point. Some of these homes are just left to rot after life kicks in. Sad to see all of them like this and hopefully whoever owns it comes back and grabs what they can before its to late. I tried my best to not show the location its in as there's still a good bit of stuff left behind... but with that being said.. few people seem to know about it. oh wow, that I did not know. Glad you mentioned all that. Thank you so much or the addiction information. That's really helpful. Again, thank you for stopping by.
You can check the Tax Assessors office for public records. ( Property Taxes ) You can trace by name, or address which broadens the search.
