Grey is the complimentary color to pink. No wonder it looks great.
Very nice work. I love seeing old systems revived to today‘s standards.

I wish these were be able to be purchased! I had an original pink GBA same as the one in the beginning of the video and it got lost during my childhood so I would love to be able to own one again! GREAT VIDEO!

I love MachoNacho's videos! They were really helpful when I was modding my gba sp's. The new blue shell looks great!

Man I just did a screen kit to my GBA and absolutely love it! I don’t know how we used to play these handhelds back in the day… I got a decent deal on a Spice Orange GBA from Japan because my GBA SP is just so damn uncomfortable to play for longer periods and the buttons are just too small. I’ll be selling it even though I’ve had it for years. I did a screen kit to my Sega GG as well and it is phenomenal! Even saves on the battery life big time! I could never go back to the original screens and that’s exactly why I avoided handheld retro gaming for years. Both of my kits were the Clean screens from Retrosix.

Oh, i remember about this idea you had, and it's nice seeing you putting this project to work. Also really cool to see that you found pieces that are easy to put together, almost tooless, which makes things even more easy!
Yeah, ordering something and receiving it different sucks, but a glad it worked out better in the end. I would say that in this case, the wise words of a wise man applies: "just a happy accident".

That's really cool how some content creators get inspired by others. Greate video mate.

Nice build man, my only note is I would suggest going back to rechargeable AA's for a few reasons. IPS screens use significantly more power than the OEM screen and that battery is only 1500mAh which is less than a single cheap AA. Latest USB C kits do have play and charge capabilities but they do not properly accommodate for the current draw when plugged in and playing, so your battery will be overworked and lead to swelling very quickly as shown in countless Reddit posts I've seen.
The most reliable rechargeable batteries I've come across are the IKEA LADAs or Eneloop Pros. Don't buy the fake AA's that claim over 3000mAh because I've bought and tested several and they come in at 2300-2500 in actuality. But again, nice build and I hope you reach out to the seller of those buttons so you can get the build you were wanting!

I like the AA batteries over battery pack unless it's like a pack that uses the AA connectors

see, I did something similar with the full custom GBA thing, but I went with a GBASP screen and went full black out for the shell and buttons. GBAs are actually pretty easy to mod, and there's a decent aftermarket for em, too. I got most of the parts for mine from BoxyPixel.

Great video! I've been really inspired by MachoNacho's content, too. I upgraded my old Advance SP in a similar way thanks to his videos. FWIW I think the parts just don't fit together as snugly as you might be used to when working on OEM consoles. Everything looked perfect to me, I think just trying to cram a load of third party components together will never feel as snug as those from the manufacturer. Would love to see more mod videos in the future!

My only wish would be to preserve your pristine GBA, and for a project like this, use a cosmetically damaged one with a working board to use with such a mod.

That's exactly what I did with a pristine GBC I bought and modded. Best of both worlds really.

Personally I think it looks great, and you did a great job. As for it not fitting together correctly, I feel like the additional 32pin is probably putting a tiny bit of extra thickness along with the kapton tape, then the little white frame on top of that. Everything being new in there is probably why it felt wrong, but it's just a matter of a lot of stuff in a little spot.

I think your issue with the screws is probably that the posts were not threaded. If the posts aren't threaded on a shell, you are literally using the screw to create the threads on the post, and it is a gigantic pain in the ass lol

How do people not know about rechargeable AA batteries? I bought a set of 4 of them and a charger for $25 and they last like 2 years or more. That way I don't have to be tethered to a cable when charging. Better then semi permanent installs, I see people doing.
