HOW TO MAKE GRENADA's OIL DOWN THE RIGHT WAY! Chosen One TV partnered with Benz Kitchen to demonstrate the process. Oil down is the national dish of Grenada, Oil down is a stew of breadfruit, salted meat, chicken, dumplings, callaloo, and other vegetables, all stewed in coconut milk, herbs, and spices to make a hearty and flavorful one-pot meal.
It is called oil down because the coconut milk simmers down and releases its rich flavored oil into the pot. All of the liquid is cooked down (dried out), hence the name oil down.

Bestfriend in highschool was Grenadian...used to love going to her home for special occasions because I know that oildown was going to be on the menu. Thank you aunty for this step-by-step...will definitely try it!
Thank you for representing your national dish. There are too many people misrepresenting the dish on TH-cam by making a soup.
Delisa we worked at Rex a long time ago, very happy to see you and very proud to see you representing so beautifully ❤❤🇬🇩🇬🇩🇬🇩

Great video 🤗
At one point in this video I actually bit my phone this looks Good
This stove. Is clean and nice
MY CHEF DELISA, NICE TO SEE YOU WITH YOUR SWEET HAND SELF, WELL DONE
The correct spice is turmeric. Safran is quite different and it does not grow in Grenada. Yes lady, you are a great cook and God has blessed your hands.
I am a new TH-camr my self . Lady u are cooking some good food over there 😋
Good job my friend keep it up …remember you from happy hill sec days
Dasheen leaves is what we make callaloo with in Trinidad and Tobago callaloo is the finished product the leaves are from the Dasheen
Nice video
You make oildown just like me! So it must taste great 👍🏽
Lol yessssss
LolPetal😂😂❤️
Butiful dish I will be trying this real son
Great job
Ah cud smell it lol
You on point.. great. oil down is not to be stir so true..
Who go dislike nice food Soo
What are the chicken seasonings? With the local flavor?
I’m so hungry 😢
Someone said it was turmeric that gives oil down its colour, is that something you can use for the colour? I knew it was saffron.
Tumeric is what we use...we call it saffron in greens but it is NOT saffron
As a Trini 🇹🇹 I only hearing about Grenadian oil down….compared to Trini oil down and we making it wrong. It’s the same, less ingredients
In my opinion it’s not the same. What you guys make is actually called run down in all the other islands. Some Grenadians make the same dish that you all make in Trinidad and call it steam down or coconut rurup.
It's definitely NOT the same...... Trinidadians don't get it right !
oh please@@megajanique
Sylvia, that is how oil down should look, not with a whole set of liquid in it.
alot of people click on this with their bellies 😆✨ 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Hi what were the ingredients in your local flavor seasoning on the chicken?
Chive, thyme, seasoning pepper and chadon beni (culantro) all combined aka green seasoning
The chicken was season, but why no seasonings for the pigtails snd salt beef?
the pigtail and salt beef already have their own flavor.
Looks delicious,
Can this be made without meat?
Yes it can
Yes, I had oildown with no meat, just a small bit of saltfish and smoked herring. Best pot I ever ate!
Yes I'm first
Shouldn’t the water from the chicken boiled out
This oil down looks different from trini oil down
That's a lot of oil down...how many people can that feed..I would need to make 1/4 of that
is that saffron or turmeric?
Look like turmeric to me🤷♀️
Tumeric is referred to as saffron in many caribbean countries
@@banzaitnt oookay
The same is just Grenz call it safrom
🇬🇩🇬🇩🇬🇩🇬🇩
You trying still..
That is a lot of meat!
Wasted that breadfruit
So much cross contamination with the chicken and meat !!!!
Move from here because you maybe nasty no bloodclaut always quick to find faults.
was an hour and 90 minutes to short dumplings and chicken raw sis
