    you should be focusing on sitting up and initiating the stroke with the hip. The young lady (1:20-1:30) is riding her knee. Meaning, she is putting weight on the front leg when she is in the reach. This motion drives the boat down and increases resistance and slows the boat. To start, there should not be any reach till the hip is in motion. Initiation with the hip will assist in a smoother recovery and help with balance.
