Here's the thing: There was no split. The Zelda of Skyward Sword had awakened as Hylia, a Goddess, and at the end of the game repairs the inconsistencies to the timeline when she, Link, and Groose return to the present. OOT Zelda did not have such awareness and so could not do the same.

I think the Theory is really interesting. I thought of it too.
So what if Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are taking place after Skyward Sword…but in the Timeline where Link killed Demise in the Past.
So we know the original Timeline came from the outcome that Demise was crushed by the Statue of the Goddess by the Triforce thanks to Links wish. And because Link and Zelda traveled back to their future and took the Rest Demise with them in the Master Sword, the curse still happened to the Blood of the Goddess and the Spirit of the Hero.
But the events of Ganondorf, the Divine Beasts and Calamity Ganon still could happen because in the Past where Demise was destroyed he still spoke the Curse on Link and Zelda and still would probably also reincarnate in this Timeline along with Ganondorf. So because BotW and ToTK taking place 10.000+ years in the future..the events of the timeline still could happen but in a another way because things changed and so the Rito could coexist alongside the Zora usw and because we don’t know what exactly happened in the past…it is possible that characters like Ruto could have a big role in the Past.
And Ganondorf could come back time and time again and later being sealed under Hyrule in this timeline.
I think you know what I mean xD
So I believe that fourth timeline is indeed the timeline we’re Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom taking place.

the only thing wrong with your statement is the end of skyward sword splitting time the ending of the game already debunks it however if the imprisoned escaped that would split time as it leads to an alternate ending this then leads to a game over to restart the fight but that ending is still there

I had seen a theory where after Link kills Demise the demon king reforms in the imprisoned state and is slowly dying. This is supported by the presence of Elder Impa being present with the jewelry Zelda left her, implying that Demises death led to the present events and brings the distant past closer to the present by keeping it within Impa's lifetime.
However if this theory is false then what happens in the time that Link kills Demise and leaves. Demise had specifically tied his curse to Link's soul and Zelda's bloodline and it had fallowed them back through the gate of time. This leaves a timeline where Demises curse is formed but unfulfilled, the Master Sword is never forged, the Tri-force remains in Skyloft, and an unknown amount of time occurs before the Hylian people return to the surface.

This is why time travel is always a huge pain in the butt. If Breath of the Wild is considering all past Zeldas as myth, then it sounds like it's considering all past Zeldas have all happened, meaning Breath of the Wild is the point where all time line splits converge. Considering just how crazy time travel can get, and how far back one person can go, it is possible that a person could experience all three major deviations.
As far as how many other timelines could exist (or arguably should exist), it doesn't really matter. I mean, Nintendo could always choose a point and explore a split from there, and maybe more games should, because as wacky as it might sound, it gives you themes and chains you can explore. It's not about how may timelines there could be, it's about focusing on the one we're telling the story in right now. The three that split from OoT are the three that matter.

  • @Kahadi
    @Kahadi ปีที่แล้ว +25

    Okay, some issues with this:
While the time travel in SS is similar to the one in OoT during the game, it differs from the time travel done at the end of OoT.
To explain, at the end of OoT, when the timeline does split, it's because Link is sent all the way back, before he first grabbed the Master Sword, before ge first traveled through time, and prevents everything from happening. That means that in the child timeline split, that Link may have the memories of everything that happened, but none of it beyond that point happened. I believe it is specified somewhere that he was sent back to before he even met Zelda, which would mean that the only things from that game which happened are his exploits in the Kokiri Forest prior to leaving. He met Navi, got the Kokiri Sword, defeated Gohma, got the Kokiri Emerald, and the Deku Tree died. But that's it. He never went to Lon Lon Ranch, he never went to Kakariko, Death Mountain, Zora's Domain. Presumably some of the major events there like saving Ruto would have happened other ways given what we know of the future of that timeline, but the events as they played out in OoT did not happen. Even if we go to the latest option, he would have to have been sent back to before Ganondorf chased Zelda out of the castle when Link got the Ocarina after getting all of the Spiritual Stones.
But the other time travel in the game, as well as in SS, is... Well, a bit more confusing. Sometimes we are changing the future, creating various offshoots of the timelines. We get the seed for the tree of life, take it to the past, plant it, and now it exists fully grown in the future, letting us take fruit from it so we can bring it to the past elsewhere to prevent Lanayru dying, giving us 3 timelines. No tree, dead Lanayru. Tree, dead Lanayru. Tree, living Lanayru. But it also has us fulfilling time loops, mini paradoxes where we see something in the future and have to go to the past to make sure it happens. SS only does the first, at least that we can confirm, while OoT does both. But it gets worse. In OoT, it seems that we return to the very point in time we left, time not passing, as though we never left. But in SS, time continues to flow while we are gone. When we go back to save Zelda and kill Demise, we return to see Groose and Impa watching and waiting to see if we would succeed.
It is not the same as the timeline split in OoT. In that one, we change time so drastically that we can see several years later and it's different. But in SS, when we return after killing Demise... Nothing has changed. We changed time and went back to the future, but nothing was different. And yet, as stated before, just planting a seed gave us a tree that was not there before. That means that if we had changed the future, we would see it. That does not mean the timeline did not change, just that we do not see the changes.
So no, there is no massive timeline split. It is possible for the loop theory some give, but it has flaws. There is the explanation of Zelda using her goddess powers to resolve the issue, but there's no evidence she has the power to do that, even as the reincarnation of Hylia, she's still not a goddess at the time.
As for the curse, it was on Link and Zelda, so them going through time does not change things.
If Demise was eradicated as The Imprisoned, he cannot come back. The Demise sealed in the sword could, in theory, until we get evidence the sword finished the job, but The Imprisoned was stated to be destroyed. So the parts of the theory surrounding that are just stretches and grasping at straws.
If Demise is godly, as stated in this video among other theories, then the Triforce would not work for him. It is directly stated it would not work for any gods. There is no debating that. The only debate on the topic is whether the solution was that he was not godly, not a deity, or he didn't know he couldn't use the Triforce. And no, there is no defense of "he just wanted to destroy it" as we are told he wanted to use the Triforce. Either his goal was futile as he couldn't even use it, or he is not a god. That's that.
Overall, this theory... Well, it's kind of all over the place, with some points of the video having nothing to do with the main theory, but even the main theory is just grasping at straws and making stretches and assumptions that don't work.
If you want semantics, then yes, there's an infinite number of timelines with small deviations. But if we're focusing on major differences for the timelines, things that actually matter and could split off into more games, then we can't have every single death be a new timeline or anything like that. We have to focus on major things. Things like Ganondorf almost having the Triforce.

The only thing I didn't get was how the Imprisoned could even exist if Demise had already been defeated. You bring up a good point with all the time corrections happening - essentially real-time dragonbreaks. So my new theory is that if the Master Sword in OoT is a "ship that can sail time's river," then the time gates are bridges over the flow of time. The gates are open on both sides, so the change is internally consistent. I'm not sure if the time shift stones are exactly like that, but they seem at least similar, being a 3.5D game mechanic, like 4D but only binary options on that 4th plane. So if the gates are like a binary timeshift but more stable, that's brain-bending but resolves the timeline split because it's an active dragonbreak.

I've always believed there's more to the 'downfall timeline' split than just 'Link got a game over'. If a game over splits the timeline then every new game generates thousands or millions of new timelines.
The Zelda of Ocarina of Time is also the Zelda that would have witnessed the Imprisoning War. This Zelda was willing to break time in two just so that Link could have a childhood; it stands to reason that if this same Zelda had witnessed far worse---the downfall timeline--that she would have tried to change it.
And we know that Zelda in Ocarina of Time received premonitions about the future in the form of dreams.

The Downfall Timeline was an act of divine intervention by the Goddesses who WANTED the timeline to exist to represent Din the Goddess of _Power_ and the mortal wielder of her Triforce piece Ganondorf. Like the Adult Timeline represents Nayru and _Wisdom_ and the Chile Timeline represents Farore and _Courage_ so does the Downfall represent Din and Power.

Well apparently The Legend of Zelda now has its timeline renewed, with a new Lore, a new story and the same familiar characters always being Link, Zelda and Ganon. It is quite possible that BOTW, AOC and TOTK take place in a separate timeline from the original that began in Skyward Sword where the Golden Goddesses and the Goddess Hylia existed, but perhaps Demise never existed and in fact the first evil to exist was Ganondorf and becoming the Demon King since he doesn't seem to want to hunt down Hylia's bloodline and the Hero's spirit and yes Ganondorf is just thirsty for power and is evil from birth. In TOTK Ganon is eradicated from existence completely bringing Hyrule lasting peace, but there is another timeline that Ganondorf is very much alive, the Age of Calamity Timeline

  • @dr0g_Oakblood

I’m actually in favor of the Altered Downfall theory I saw somewhere that the downfall is not an universe where Link died because that spirals into infinite potential multiverses as mentioned, but as a time remnant of the fragment of the child timeline, since Zelda sends link back not Seven years at the end of OoT to the Child Past he had been sending forward in time as he traveled between the two, but straight to the beginning of the child timeline from the game, orphaning the fragment of the past that Link had already travelled through between Ganon’s arrival and the other developments in the past of OoT as a separate timeline where the hero vanishes, leaving the plot structure intact for what the Downfall timeline usually entails, usually where it feeds into Link to the Past and all that.

  • @jaredstivers
    @jaredstivers ปีที่แล้ว +1

It might be interesting to think that BotW and TotK are from the Past Timeline since the Tri-Force is considered lost in these game since no one seen it.
Both time lines have the Master Sword and only one shows the Tri-Force throughout it history. So if Link Defeat Demise in the past with the Master Sword, there was no need for the Tri-Force power to be used so it quite possible that this Artifact was lost in time and how they had to use the Tears in a timeline that the Tri-Force was never used.
Plus this Ganondorf looks has more of a Demise look, similiar sword and he looks like he more of a Swordsman then Sorcerer, plus the time gap is probably closer to the gap of Skyward sword and pre Skywards sword then OoT. That game he was a skilled wizard but could handle a weapon were this Ganondorf feel like a Swords master, Similar to Demise

  • @Booyah_Squidy
    @Booyah_Squidy ปีที่แล้ว +1

So I feel like there is a misconception with the fallen hero timeline. I don’t think thats when adult link fights ganon and dies but rather when young link attemps to fight Ganondorf after seeing young Zelda flee the castle but ganondorf shoots an energy blast at Link which in other terms Link is defeated after challenging Ganondorf but is not dead. After that Link proceeds to grab the master sword then travel to the future so look at the time splits in OOT. The adult Link is sent back in time after defeating Ganon but this time he changes the future by stopping ganondorf early making the events of the future not to happen making a split for the young and adult era. But if you pay close attention the fallen hero era changes too. When Link gets sent back in time it wasn’t through the master sword so the young era is when young Link didn’t pick up the master sword and Zelda didn’t flee from the castle, Link was never blasted by Ganondorf and they put a stop to Ganondorf before anything happened. Making the fallen era timeline a time were the last person who saw Link was Ganondorf after he blasted Link when Link tried to challenge him therefore defeating Link and then causing Link to go and grab the master sword which then causes young Link to disappear from the timeline just like adult link disappeared after being sent back in time making it so there wasn’t a Link in those moments of travel in the fallen and adult era. No Link when Ganondorf takes over and No Link after Ganon is sealed away.

Skyward Sword is a closed loop, not a timeline split, the ending and begining of the game makes this abundantly clear. Now, if you want to really explore a split in Skyward Sword, that would be the game over cutscene where the imprisoned reaches the Sealed Temple. Demise returns early, and Link does not have the Master Sword to stop him, and thus, the end of the world as we know it ensues.

@@drwily It is a closed loop. From the begining of the game, Impa has the bracelet Zelda gives her at the end after Demise was sealed away and the master sword placed on the pedestal.
At the end of the game, the statue of the goddess and the Triforce that Link found and sent down during the events of the game is on the surface after The Imprisoned was annihilated, as well as the Master Sword that was placed in the past which contained the sealed essence of Demise.
No timeline split is created. If it did, one timeline would have Demise sealed in the sword and therefore the isle of the goddess would have no need to descend along with the Triforce, and the other would have the Goddess Statue on the surface, but no Master Sword. And THIS is a perfect setting for BotW and TotK to fit into a timeline. It's this 4th timeline where split happends at the beginning of time. This would explain perfectly how come there is different hyrule founded by goat people.
Remember TotK cutscene, where Zelda tells Rauru about finding ganondorf's body in her own time? Rauru says this to her: "Remember, that was the future in which you were never born into this world, but now, you are here".
I call that BotW Timeline is continuation of the "past" from Skyward Sword, where SS Zelda was never born and Demise was killed with master sword. In that past, Zonai came down from heavens and since it's soooo far in the future from other games, we can call upon physics and math laws that basically state "Given enough time, everything is a possiblity and everything will happen at some point". So in this 4th timeline it's possible that all previous games happened in some alternated versions, there just has to be enough time for every eventuality.
This would also explain how there is NO MASTER SWORD when ganondorf first appears in that hyrule. This would explain absence of Triforce in BotW and TotK and how it's replaced by tears, that could as well be pieces of triforce in that world. It would explain why you can find goddess sword in TotK (the sword from SS before it becomes master sword). The only thing left as a mystery is - how the master sword came to be in that timeline and why is there Fi in it.
I also like the "Dragonbreak" theory that uses real life physics theories to explain that TotK basically merges all timelines together the moment that Zelda is sent back to distant past in TotK intro. It kinda scratches Einstein relativity theory

I feel like TOTK's past is the key to and what happens in this hidden timeline.
    Let me explain.
In past TOTK events, no Sonau is in the skies, yet that is one of the focal points of the game and where their technology is.
The main timeline happens following the wishes of the triforce, bringing it to earth and making it endure in history.
In BOTW the islands and the triforce never came down (barely mentioned) because evil was sealed in the sword rather than the triforce.
A seal was much weaker than a wish to disappear, the sonau who remained on earth (became sheika) must create the divine beasts to protect themselves from it
The only problem, TOTK's past seems to be before Skyward sword. "The Goddess Hylia gathered the Triforce and the remaining survivors onto a piece of earth and sent it skyward beyond the clouds."
And in the flashbacks of the past, the celestial islands have not yet risen to the skies. So there would have been a ganondorf before Denise and the celestial islands?
    .
In totk's past (and in his end-game form) ganondorf looks like he's transforming from denise. and if the seal of Rauru was not enough (because the evil has always woken up regularly in BOTW) denise was able to reform including the events of Skyword sword.
and was awakened when the blade where he was scene was broken at the beginning of TOTK

I know, Nintendo states that the downfall timeline is the result of Link being defeated in his fight against Ganon, but I don't hold to that idea. It would mean, there is a downfall timeline created in every game, every single time Link faces the final boss. Also, the lore of LttP states that Ganondorf managed to find a way to get into the sacred realm, not he followed the hero into the sacred realm.
This indicates that the Downfall Timeline is the result of Ganondorf having been completely unopposed in his machinations, Zelda and Link having never stepped up to stop him. Zelda didn't have her prophetic visions of the evil comming from the desert and the hope coming from the forest; Link didn't have his nightmares of being nearly trampled by Ganondorf's horse, therefor she had no reason to distrust Ganondorf. Link may have been sent by Great Deku on his quest, maybe, but he would not have gotten far since Zelda would not have had any reason to trust and help him, after he illegally broke into the palace. Maybe Link fought in the Imprissioning War, which happened after Ganondorf entered the sacred realm and was turned into Gannon.
At the end of the downfall timeline, Zelda and Link wished upon the Triforce to protect Hyrule from evil, it would be within the power (and possibly in the nature) of the Triforce to sent the visions to the Zelda of before Ganondorf found his way into the Sacred Realm, just in time to enable the hero to rise and be victorious. The downfall timeline is the true timeline, the unadulterated timeline. The adult timeline and child timeline are the result of temporal manipulations as a result of the wish placed upon the Triforce.
Therefor, we can completely dismiss any further theories about a quadrillion alternate timelines being created every time the Hero stubs his toe or falls into a puddle. Skyward Sword creates two timelines, not four.
There is one timeline, the unadulterated timeline, in which Demise is sealed, during his imprisonment transforms into the Imprisioned One, breaks free a couple of times and is destoyed; There is another timeline, the altered timeline, in which Demise is sealed, almost immediately freed and then defeated. The only uncertainty that keeps it open for debate and theorising is wether Demise's curse followed Link and Zelda into the original timeline or remained in the altered timeline where the curse was spoken. The answer to this will determine which of the two timelines the rest of the timeline follows from, freeing the other timeline up for completely new adventures, in which the evils that plague the lands have nothing to do with Demise's curse, can take place a timeline where there never has been and never will be a Ganondorf and Ganon.

I think that the major difference between the two is in the master sword... we see Link use it OoT to travel back in time without making a mess. It's only until Zelda send Link back before he got the master sword that the timeline went askew. The Master Sword is quite literally the most powerful thing in existence outside of the Triforce. The reason Sky was able to was because of the master sword and the gates created to help it channel the power, the Master Sword is timeless which is why it can hurt Demise, it can cut him yesterday, today and tomorrow. But I might just be talking crazy.

I try not to work too hard on Skyward Sword theories, as I hate that game most in the series, and when we stacked in the concept of the Downfall Timeline, which I just don't like because Gdorf is never easier in the series than Ocarina, and since I've never lost that fight, that means every encounter with Ganon COULD have Downfall option, I just about bounces. My apologies. As for the SS split, I would say it simply happens because Link brought Akuma, and his curse, back with him to the present, so a future where Demise was obliterated, and never laid his curse, was negated by the unavoidable necessity of carrying his remnant back, where Link and Zelda are thus still cursed, and Akuma's Satsui Nohado is still leaking out of the Master Sword.
As for a timeline where the curse never happened, maybe it is a thing, and the Goddesses have simply not shown us a story there, because what's to see? One of my personal hatreds of Skyward Sword is how I feel Demise takes away from Ganon being the BBEG of the series. I'm older than Zelda, and remember when Ganon wad just Ganon. He was a pig demon sorcerer, and a Daturday morning cartoon villain. He wasn't humanized; he didn't have vaguely relatable motives to "save his people", or anything, and while I get that time means he needed to develop, Demise sort of says nope. Ganon isn't significant; he's just a consequence of Demise, and likely nor even aware of it. 20+ years of being evil sort of undone by a second rate "first Dark Lord" becoming his origin point; it's almost as silly as assuming Gdorf might've bested Link in OoT, when there's no reason to believe it. Still, as is, without Akuma starting everything up, we'd have no story. Maybe some underling Femon Princes would crop up, like Vaati, or Mallidus, but them there'd be no Link to fight them, so not much to see, and as Link Between Worlds shows, if you try to circumvent the system, the very world that depends on it stops working, like the series missing a crucial piece.
Personally, I like that Breath of the Wild is a bottleneck for the timelines, and puts them all back together. I'd still get more out of it if that meant more references to those other games, and not just the other one new enough that current young fans might have played it, and get the references, but something that actually builds off of the whole series, and not just one previous game, or path. Tears of the Kingdom still scares me; in addition to maybe being Skyward Sword with a BotW skin, or bringing back Hylia, and Demise, in a way that changes it forever, because Shigi is getting older, and some folks might want the series to end before he does, I don't know how the new mechanics will work, or if it will totally make pointless literally every thing we did in Breath of the Wild, but I'm still really excited! It's Zelda, and it's been my favorite series since the 80s, when it wasn't even a series, yet.😊 I expect it will be great, even if I might not feel it personally, but I'm still hopeful. Only time will tell.

The most confusing part is how Skyloft became Hyrule in 1 timeline and the incarnation of malice curse that is Ganon exists in the other, but both exist in the same timeline throughout the rest of the series.
The only logical conclusion is that Link, Zelda, and (most notably) the master sword brought the curse with them back to the Hyrule timeline. Leaving the other (past) timeline devoid of both a hero and villain thus no plots for games to happen.

After playing TOTK for a while, and seeing the forests underground., I'm starting to believe the games are less of a timeliness and more a braided rope of strands making a "time-line " where while there are "downfall" elements- but other "versions" of events keep the overall theme positive as they interconnect in one after the other ways, but some events seem to be more "indirect influence" on other parts like they are separate strands but tightly wound together. When you add the "links awakening" effect that from the dreams of a creature can be "created" whole villages with their own hisory that outsiders can interact with and possibly leave without ever knowing the village was a dream..... in TOTK when I visited the shrine of resurrection and saw what was left of a notable shieka tech site, a friend played the ballad of the windfish from his playlist... in TOTK I have yet to find any shieka shrine or tech remnant - even in places id expect to see them. The devastation upon the land is still present, but nothing showing the shieka tech link save a few tech made by current shieka based on the old missing tech... I think this is telling us more about how the games link together as this is a very direct sequel to BOTW. You add in the "non cannon games" as a side "strand" to the braid of time... you see its a LOT more then three timeliness- pressing into how the land changes before they too dissappear like crucial elements of LA and BOTW. guess this is what happens when a goddess of time becomes mortal, but doesn't give up her powerset.

  • @IamCanadian3333
    @IamCanadian3333 ปีที่แล้ว +1

This is not an actual timeline split and has been debunked. Both Demise's defeats happened (in the same "timeline") and both were equally important. Defeating himn the the past didn't actually destroy him, as we see his essence survived. This is why Zelda (who had sealed herself to maintain Demise's seal) hadn't been freed at that point in time. And we see "Sealed Zelda" all throughout the game (including the beginning), meaning this event always happened. Old Lady Impa also possesses Zelda's bracelet throughout the game (also including the beginning), meaning the event of Zelda giving Impa her bracelet always happened. It's basically just timeloop. No paradoxes, no changes, all events always happened, and it became a stable time loop. Same thing with Hero of Time Link learning the Song of Storms. The only real contradictions are the Life Tree and Master Sword. I would argue though, these were invisible to Zelda and Link as to make sure they went back in time to help with their "creations" and to avoid paradoxes as if they encountered them in the Present before travelling back in time, this would destroy the need to plant the Life Tree or leave the Master Sword behind thus creating a paradox. This similarly happens in OoT with planting the magic beans. Their growth doesn't appear 7 years in the future until Link plants them in the past, even though theoretically they should already be there. TL;DR time travel rules to prevent a paradox from occurring (like how in theory you shouldn't be able to go back in time and kill an ancestor because that would erase you from existence, but if you are erased, you wouldn't be able to travel in the past to kill your ancestor to begin with).
Also for the DF Timeline, isn't ever actually stated that Link dies, only that he was defeated. And we know one doesn't need to die to lose their Triforce piece. Ie. Wind Waker where Ganon beats Link to a pulp and as able to extract his Triforce piece from him (and Zelda who was knocked out). The Hero of Time in the DF Timeline could have been defeated similarly, but saved when Zelda (or spared) and the rest of the sages sealed Ganon anyways. Also, calling it a "Timeline" is a misnomer. It's not actually a timeline, it's an alternate universe ie. it wasn't created through Time Travel shenanigans, it's merely the result of Hero of Time Link losing to Ganondorf in their final battle which rippled into entirely different events.

  • @autumnmaru

Heres my thought, since demise put the curse on link in the past, the imprisioned is the first reincarnation of demise. Meaning that demise thinks this is a new link and zelda since they are currently in the present at the start of the game. So he keeps trying to reincarnate. And since link put the master sword in the present it means there is no paradox of the goddess sword and master sword in different places at the same time.

    • @javiervasquez625
      @javiervasquez625 ปีที่แล้ว

A bit convoluted for the Imprisoned One to be a reincarnation of Demise instead of just the same being given Ganondorf's existence for the same purpose of "replacing" Demise after his death at the end of Skyward Sword. It's safe to assume that when Link came to the future his battles with the Imprisoned One simply didn't happen and the timeline simply "changed" to accomodate Demise's Seal underneath the Master Sword.

There are two forms of time travel: those that happen in writ history and those that don't. Some examples for clarity:
Guru-Guru teaches adult Link the Song of Storms. Link sends his consciousness back to his child body and teaches the Song of Storms to Guru-Guru, who will later teach it to Link. This is a part of the universal happening, because it happened. It's self-referential and also existent. There could be many more cycles like this that didn't happen in the official happenings of history. Anju could have given Link a bamboo egg laid by her samurai Cucco Monjiro. Later, you go back and give her the egg which will soon hatch into Monjiro. This is also a loop, but it doesn't happen in history so it never happens. Either they will exist or they won't, and for each circumstance you can't change it's status of happening.
This does *not* cause timelines to split.
Conversely, Terrako makes a timeline split because what it didn't doesn't happen in the base chronology. There was no Terrako running around in BotW's past, so as soon as Terrako entered the past, he ventured in a new timeline where AoC happens. He can somehow access the future of his original timeline (where BotW happens) because he extracts the Champion successors to save the Champions. Nonetheless, Terrako didn't appear from a portal before BotW, so Terrako appearing makes a new version of reality where it does.
    This *does* cause timeline splits.
    If that makes sense.

  • @Dethneko
    @Dethneko ปีที่แล้ว +1

Seems to me there's one other split that doesn't seem to get talked about. Which happens first: Oracle of Ages or Oracle of Seasons? Seems to me there's a clear split in which events happen first (and I'm pretty sure Ages has time travel that can create even more splits, and double that based on whether they happen first or Seasons happens first), though the end result is just as likely two timelines that are both the original Zelda followed by Zelda II, so basically it splits and reconverges except it's still two separate timelines, just similar events in both. Or would it?
Edit: It just occurred to me there's yet another split: The 2nd quest in the original Legend of Zelda. Presumably the first quest is the canon quest, but the 2nd quest is pretty much the same events done differently. So now there's 4 time lines:
    Ages > Seasons > 1st Quest
    Ages > Seasons > 2nd Quest
    Seasons > Ages > 1st Quest
    Seasons > Ages > 2nd Quest

    • @javiervasquez625
      @javiervasquez625 ปีที่แล้ว

According to the channel @Zelda Lore the events of Oracle of Ages happen first due to many events in the game been directly referenced in Oracle of Seasons compared to visceversa where nothing in Seasons is referenced in Ages after beating the former. The only way this "split" you speak of could exist is if Nintendo confirmed the lack of a canon order for the 2 Oracle games. Since that isn't the case the only conclusion is that one of the 2 canonically happened before the other.

So I have an interesting theory. There was a very recent interview with developers including aounuma about the story of totk. He mentioned something about having to do with the imprisoning war. The imprisoning war is something that was mentioned in the text from link to the past. According to link to the past the imprisoning war has to do with the events of ocarina of time. More specifically I think it pertains to the events of the downfall version of ocarina of time. It is the event where seven sages after a long war seal ganon into the dark world. Is it possible that the two latest zelda games are situated In the downfall timeline. Maybe breath of the wild is a very distant sequel to the original zelda and zelda 2?

So about the timeline split, I don't think there's actually a version of the time where Girahim didn't went through the gate, because, this thing just happens (in the same way there shouldn't be a Downfall Timeline because Link actually defeats Ganon in every split caused by time travel). HOWEVER, there IS a timeline where Demise is defeated 1000 years ago. Since his curse is tied to the soul of the hero who goes back to the present but never left any sort of spiritual decendance in the distant past, the curse doesn't manifest in this timeline. This timeline where Skyloft is still hanging in the skies but the surface is already free from both Demise and Girahim influence (well Girahim is a bit of a stretch since we're not sure if he ends up sealed in the master sword) could be THE paradise Timeline.
TLDR : there's no timeline split where Girahim doesn't come back but there's a timeline split starting from the alternate distance past where Demise is already defeated.

I like theories...but in reality, having the games be their own thing and not have to fit in a unified timeline always made the most sense to me. Even if the hero and princess are constabtly reincarnating or whatever...why do they always look, dress, and talk the exact same way every time? And how is the Master Sword preserved and kept safe in each timeline for the hero to conveniently find?
It all doesn't really make sense to me if it's supposed to be a single timeline. But if it's just a similar story every time, similar to how Christmas movies about Santa Claus have many similar elements (reindeer, elves, North Pole, presents, etc.) yet differ in many ways, then it makes complete sense. You also don't have to bang your head against the wall to make every little thing fit together.

There is one flaw with that theory, there would have to be games with the adult timeline evil within the Child and fallen hero timeline as well. Maybe if there was a game that sets the adult timeline ahead of the two then it would work to connect the three timelines together

There was one simple fix for tears of the kingdom to make sense.
Demise was the first villan which killed thousands before his rebirth, right? The thousands should have been zonai where the cutscenes in totk where Ganondorf was first sealed by rauru. The main villan in this game should have been demise with Ganondorf as his puppet.
I got so excited the whole time thinking Ganons final form was going to be the spirit of demise or something. Hoping this was the story of them turning demise into the imprisoned. I heard Demon King and screeched at the thought of demise returning... then it was Ganon...

    So close....
The split happens because Link takes his curse with him into the current timeline, leaving the past timeline without a curse or demise. The past timeline wouldn't even have a need for the Master Swords creation just leaving the Goddess Sword awaiting to be used in case of great tragedy, which most likely wouldn't ever be as great as the timeline(s) we know.

if it wasn't for the 10 000year history gap and a random zonai being the founder of hyrule... then tear of the kingdom would of fit perfectly in the downfall timeline, right after oot. it as the imprisoning war after all and fits well since in link to the past ganon gets resurected. the sages we see in tear of the kingdom helping the zonai king and zelda, do look allot like the sages from oot with the exeption of saria turning into a rito... but one looks allot like darunia, one is rauru, the zora is hard to distiguish but it could be Ruto. the only thing is the lighning and wind sages being new and the shadow and forest sages are gone. i also believe that the link we play as is the link that Died and failed in oot. the downfall timeline was the only timeline that we didn't get to see what happened to Ganondorf and it is all displayed in tear of the kingdom. my theory is that when zelda traveled through time in tear of the kingdom she probably told the founders of hyrule about all that has happened in hyrule since OOT, about the sheika and their shrines, giving the ideal to rauru that he should bless his own version of shrines for the hero to conquer, the ancien having knowledge of what is to come in the future probably drasticaly changed the outcome of all of the timelines. with the new shrines established to test the hero the sheikas would not have needed to create their own shrines like in breath of the wild, explaining why they are missing in tear of the kingdom. it also helps explain why the gerudo in tear of the kingdom never became bad, the sheika wouldn't need to have the shadow temple made to imprison the gerudoes in the war since the new timeline gave ganandorf an army of monsters to fight with instead. i still can't figure out all of the finer details that this intails and would like real experts to have a look into it. my biggest question is this; why did nintendo have a 10 000 years +100 years of link being dead? ganondorf was born in the era of oot and i don't think this is a different ganondorf that we see in the newest game, (why would the gerudo name a newborn male that name if history already had a vilain with that name) if the game only had links 100 year death happen as the downfall foundation it would of worked out but that 10 000 year history that the game gives just doesn't add up for me. or was there actually more then 10 000 years seperating oot and link to the past? oh and one more confusion for the road.... Why are the Rito existing in ancient time?
sorry a bit long i know, im just a very confused fan that would love for all of zelda games to coexist with one another proprely, but oocoos, wind tribes, skyloft, twilights, and minish tribes, they're all gone from existance. Yet we got a deku tree that hasn't been cursed by ganondorf and that knows link, we got zoras king who remmembers link from before his 100 year sleep, a statue of darunia in goron city... and impa is there too. how is there so much OOT references yet no triforce for this ganondorf to take or own?

The OoT downfall timeline isn't a timeline where Link is defeated; it's a timeline where Link never shows up. I think the verbiage around the timeline split got mistranslated at some point. If you apply the same logic to SS, that means we only have 1 extra timeline: one where Link never goes back in time to defeat Demise. Or possibly that's the timeline where the Imprisoned is crushed by the Triforce and there was never a curse

    A few things:
In OoT, when young Link 1st draws the Master Sword, he does not time-travel to the future. He goes into a coma for 7 years.
He puts the sword in the pedestal to travel back in time, and he draws it again to return to the present. This form of time-travel does NOT create a new timeline.
The windmill man taught Link the song of storms in the present, because he already learned it from Link in the past, BEFORE Link traveled to the past to teach it to him.
It’s a closed loop, not a branching split.
The timeline splits when Zelda herself uses the Ocarina of Time to send Link back in time to before they 1st met.
When he arrives: he de-ages (he’s not adult Link running around in the past), he replaces the young version of himself (there are not 2 Links running around), and he has the Triforce of Courage (despite arriving BEFORE the door to the sacred realm was opened…so the Triforce of Courage left the sacred realm, since there is only 1 Triforce of Courage in TP, & the Triforce of Courage is also still in WW).
    SS:
Young Impa travels to the future thru the gate of time at the temple of time in Lanayru.
She does not age. She does not replace future Impa.
Zelda travels to the past thru this gate. Then seals herself in a crystal.
This crystal is visible in the future before she travels to the past.
Travel thru that specific gate does NOT create a new timeline.
Link travels thru the gate of time in Hylia’s sealed temple.
He does not de-age. This seems to suggest time-travel thru this gate also does not create new timelines.
However… the tree of life is not in the future before he travels to the past to plant it.
    So either:
Time travel thru this gate does create new timelines, in which case there is a future that Link left that now has no Link, no Master Sword, no tree of life, & a dead Lanayru dragon.
(If this were the case, wouldn’t Link & Zelda at the end travel to a future with the statue still in the sky, since there was no Imprisoned to destroy? Or does the gate of time know to send them back to THEIR timeline?)
Or time-travel thru this gate CHANGES the timeline.
(But again, killing Demise in the past does not seem to change the future, as the statue is still on the surface because it was used to kill the Imprisoned.)
    1 major point changes everything.
After killing Demise, Link puts the Master Sword in the pedestal in Hylia’s sealed temple in the PAST.
He returns to the future where the statue was obviously used to kill the Imprisoned… but the Master Sword is where he left it… and playing the game, you can see that the Master Sword was NOT there before he went to the past!
There is only 1 answer to this.
Time is being corrected by the goddess of time, Nayru Herself.
When Link & Zelda returned to the future, Nayru merged the past where Demise was killed with the future where the Imprisoned was killed.
I will say… this does leave the possibility that there could be 2 swords at the end of SS… the Master Sword of the future & the Goddess Sword of the past.
And the depiction of the Picori Blade in the stained glass window of the very next game (Minish Cap) looks very much like the Goddess Sword.
And remember when the Minish 1st came and gave the Picori Blade to the Hero of Men… they came from the sky!
(not from the Minish door that Vaati & Ezlo come thru later. After the events of the Hero of Men, instead of returning to the sky, the Minish split to 4 places: the forest, the town, the mountain, and whatever is on the other side of the Minish Door [Termina? Lorule? World of the Ocean King? Who knows.])
I think BotW is at the end of all 3 timelines, not merging like Elder Scrolls, just correcting.
3 different BotW’s. All seem identical because of how much Nayru has corrected the timelines, but each having the different history of the 3 timelines.

@@UnluckySuperstition The 1st Gate of Time is found in the Temple of Time in the Lanyaru region (named after Nayru) where Timeshift stone is mined. And the Oracle of Ages who travels thru time by playing the Harp of Ages is named Nayru (after the Golden Goddess).
Din, Nayru, & Farore created Hylia.
Hylia has some powers from all 3.
For example, when she lifted the land of Skyloft into the sky, she was combining powers she got from Din the Goddess of Land/Earth & Farore the Goddess of Wind.
Nayru may have given time powers to Hylia when Nayru created Hylia, but Nayru is the Golden Goddess of Time, Wisdom, Love, Law, Water, & Ice.

It was the same story altered by time and the narrator. It wasnt supposed to have a history linking the games until fans demanded it.

I'll just say Skyward Sword was probably the most messy game in the franchise with time travel. Usually you have two methods of time travel, destined or fluid (time travel was required for the present to be the way it is, going to the past can actually change the present). The series has always been a bit poor on picking a lane, but Skyward Sword was the worst offender of that.

The biggest mistake is assuming that there's a timeline split at all, or that the Hyrule Historia is accurate today. The background story in the recorded history of each region of Breath of the Wild invalidates the parallel timeline hypothesis. The historical events, figures, items, and races are only possible if there is a single linear timeline. There is actually a way to rationalize a linear timeline which makes the events of Breath of the Wild possible without a magical timeline merge event like in Hyrule Warriors.

  • @DaZebraffe
    @DaZebraffe 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

The two forms of time travel between the two games are very similar mechanically, to the player. However, lore-wise, how they work to the in-universe characters, they're VERY different. The time travel in Skyward Sword is actual travel, with the time portals acting as fixed tunnels through time that you would physically travel through. The time travel in OoT, however, is more like fucking about with a VHS. When you use the sword pedestal to go forward or back, there's no actual traveling going on, it's more like you're fast-forwarding a film, or rewinding it, always by seven years. The same seven years. Pushed forward or dragged backward at rates far, far faster than time is supposed to be able to flow, over and over and over again. As anyone who's ever messed with physical film in this way can attest, it's not so much a question of *if,* but of *when* the film will snap. Also, of how many pieces it snaps into. So, yeah, nah, there's really no precedent for Skyward Sword's means of time travel, actually breaking time.

In OoT, if Ganon kills Link, he takes the Triforce of Courage from Link, then takes the Triforce of Wisdom from Zelda, leading to ALttP, where Ganon has the complete Triforce.
If Demise killed Link, then came thru the gate of time to the future, and the Triforce is just at the top of the statue of Hylia, Demise could absolutely have the complete Triforce.

    *TOTK SPOILERS*
Right now I'm leaning on BotW and Totk taking place in the same timeline as all others. A timeline split in SS is very unappealing, unless they are going to go with it as a "prime" timeline relegating everything that can't cleanly fit to myth and legend.
I don't think Demise is the original evil, but rather he is the first incarnation of the calamity, and the strongest. I think the events in the dragon tears take place before, perhaps ages before SS. There are several peices of dialogue that lend to this conclusion.
This creates the scenario that Ganondorf is the actual source of the curse and Demise is simply aware of it, thus it sounds as though he is placing a curse when in reality, he is only letting Link know of it's existence.
This would mean that the curse would persist no matter how Demise was ended, beit eradicated by the triforce or sealed in the Master Sword.
Though, and I'm going into wild specualtion territory, it could be that Demise was, in Totks timeline sealed in the Master Sword. This was what enabled Ganondorf to do such catastrophic damage to it, he reclaimed the essence of Demise, ripping the sword apart in the process. Later, he is unable to damage the sword again in the same way as it had been purified of Demise and stengthened with light. But, again, wild speculation.
