I love when people say these are designed to go off road. They are not. They are designed to be taking out of the city with confidence on camping trips or too the cottage etc. Not for running trails, the system can't handle that. Great test here
Agree they are not designed for trails. Disagree that this test shows what their limits are. The approach taken here avoids using a steady throttle and often slows before the obstacle rather than pick the best line in advance. Its unimpressive driving.
I own a 2023 Forester Wilderness and while it’s a very capable crossover, the one big thing that holds the Forester back is the total lack of articulation. Every time this thing spins its tires it’s because it has a wheel off the ground because of the super limited articulation. The AWD system compensates quite well, but a 2” lift front he factory would help improve things dramatically.
Actually looking to snag a 21 touring, don’t get me wrong I love my Audi s4, plenty of power, but it has been a non stop headache with repetitive major repair works, and this may not be as strong or quick, but is what I need for working out of town, I think the only thing holding me back is the transmission, just never been a fan of cvts
How steep is that hill? Looking to go on some smooth but steep-ish hills, but dont want to get stuck 150miles in woods. Regular driving I've enjoyed the 2021 sport. Very comfortable, good stereo (Harmon Kardon), good steering response, lacks power but good at higher rpm when passing, plenty of room, to many safety things, good visibility, not to bad to look at. Thanks for vid
I recently bought a brand new 2024 limited in this color because it's ugly like this. If the Forester is a dog, it's a shar pei or pug. :) I bought it as a throw around car. I figured if it's already ugly brand new I wouldn't feel bad making it the rough car. so my wife and kids wont ruin my nicer cars. I'll potentially y chrome delete the window trim, change tires and wheels to make it look a bit more rugged and more capable on some mud, grass and sand. and keep at stock height.
Makes it harder by taking less than ideal lines over obstacles and not using a steady throttle. Definately could do most of these obstacles easier and with less wheelspin simply with better throttle control and steady speed.
Wouldn't it be great if Suburu made independent suspension to reach down like a Foot and individually touch the ground over hills and holes to grip the road?? So basically instead of one wheel spinning in the air it could now lower that one wheel to the ground. HEY SUBURU THAT TECHNOLOGY WOULD BE REVOLUTIONARY 😃👍
“One of the Best AWD” they’ve clearly sacrificed what they’re known for in sake of efficiency, I will say they get good fuel economy but I wouldn’t Get one personally
I hate the gimmick X-mode Subaru decided to use. They should've stuck with the system being on all the time like when it first came out. Can you gain access to a 09-12 Forester and do diagonal tests with it? Those years uses the VDC system with the 4eat. The VDC was always on and no need to push a button for x-mode or all that gimmick. My vid example of our 2010 Forester th-cam.com/video/9QiYsgdBemw/w-d-xo.html
Looks to me, that in the recent years' models Subaru has intentionally moved some of the STANDARD (non X-mode) functionality/abilities of the Forester to the X-mode (L1) to make an easy marketing for the new 2 level X-mode settings. I'd say my MY2016 is better without the X-mode, without any tweaking (Xmode off, traction on) and about the same using the X-mode (old model Xmode+traction off is very similar to L2 X-mode here). This new model has far less aggresive wheel braking and that makes a difference. And did I miss something or there is really no comparision of X-mode settings in this video ? Anyways - the grass is not an easy surface.
@@CarQuestion just because it didn't get doesn't mean it won't. The CVT is trash. AWD system is also trash that can't handle anything more than this. Look at all the other real off-road testing videos and you never see a Subaru.
@@SK718NYC you're getting too emotional instead of rational. Like any machine, the Subaru is built to a target predefined specs. You should evaluate the machine in regard to this specs. At the moment you go out of the road, you're offroad. Offroad can be easy, moderate, difficult or extreme. One category is not "more real" than the others. You just need a machine whose specs allow for that. When you buy a Subaru (p.e a Forester) you get a reliable and proven AWD system, the safest car according to Euroncap, great fuel efficiency and a machine with great off-road capacity spec'd at easy to moderate. Those characteristics suit the needs of millions of clients. I can show you tests of how Subaru AWD beats the competence at the same spec level. It's an open differential machine, remember. You can't compare it to a triple differential lock one, nor with a machine that costs double or triple.
Ford Bronco Sport Badlands has a locker, so Subaru needs to go back to LSD in the rear :P But remember hat Subaru AWD will work from 0-180 kmh and has no need to push a button to go into AWD mode. The Bronco disconnect or you have to select the AWD lock manually.

The road tires are the limiting factor.

Subaru's are more for more for snow and going up light trails to get to a camping location. Not for anything serious.
And to tow fully loaded semi too
Better look around at some other vids. Might change what you’re thinking
And Subaru knows that. That’s why they sell like crazy. The best AWD for mass market. 99.9% who buy don’t buy for off road😊
