    In this episode of Back When Stories, Appalachian Memory Keepers (appalachianmemorykeepers.org ) visits Wilkes County's (NC) iconic Palmer Home. Sitting in a pasture at the base of the mountain on Hwy 16, it has been a great source of wonder for people headed to the mountains for multiple generations.
    We interview the granddaughter of the man who built the home to get the REAL story of the home and it's history! Enjoy!

    I love this house! I would live there if it was fixed up to its original state! What great memories.

    I love your stories!! I can remember going by the Palmer House & often wonder who had lived there. I'm so happy to learn who they were & so happy to know someone remembers & has such fond memories of there as I do my memories of my grandparents home place (Isaac Johnson Place) you shared with my sister Dare Couch. Thank you for all you do in sharing these beautiful homes..

    Beautiful home and Shirley is right about things being so different today. The biggest one for me is the lack of family togetherness and most of all sitting down to eat together. Talking about your day and the days ahead, just being together at least at supper hour to marvel over your mom's cooking and even cleaning up afterwards. I miss how connected families and relatives were back then. My motto. ❤LIVE SIMPLY SO OTHER'S MAY SIMPLY LIVE.❤

    Another nice story here! Just a beautiful old house in an even more beautiful setting. Glad she got to see her grandparents old house again. Hope that young man is successful in getting it restored!

    What a beautiful home! The the wood interior and wrap around porch. I lived in a home in Romney Wv built in the 30’s in the same time frame when this house was built growing up. When she says she remembers the smells of the home I understand and totally recall the smell of the wood in our house. I can close my eyes right now and that scent immediately comes back to me. What beautiful memories.

    Thank you for doing this I have always dreamed of owning this place and restoring it. Sadly here it is almost 2020 and nothing has been done to bring this house back to it's original state

    I love this house 🏠and land it stands on. Every time I pass by this beautiful house of the old days and tears 😢 come to my eyes and I wish that it would be restored and not rot down . My Children had for their teacher in Elementary school Shirley DEAL a very good teacher . This house needs alot of restored love to make it a home again . What beautiful sense to behold in WilkesCounty HOPE and Pray 🙏 it can be restored with alot of help to make it come true .

    These are wonderful, please keep them coming! Also, was this house (or the log cabin/house built before it) around in the 1880's-1890's or so?

    • @Germainmedia
      @Germainmedia 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure about the original cabin. I am guessing after 1900. The house built around 1930.
