Come a little further don-da-by-ya ("down the bayou" for non Cajuns) and find some gems. It's not often, but I was in Walmart 2 weeks ago and went by their whiskey aisle. What did I find on the shelf? Eagle Rare for $36.98 and Weller Special Reserve for $26.98. I could not believe this was at Walmart of all places.
That JT Meleck small batch Barrel Proof pick up was solid! For a grocery store they have a killer variety, we don't have that in Colorado. NY next up! Let's goooo!!!
I’m playing catchup on the videos. I’d appreciate it if you let me know if you stumble onto another one of those Tumblin Dice NOLA Fest picks. Especially if you happen to be closer to BR or NOLA. I have several other NOLA Fest picks and trying to collect as many as I can😂. Plus I don’t have a Tumblin Dice and here they are good.
Would be cool to see/hear proofs of store picks. Maybe camera guy can just catch a quick shot of the label so I can pause and read. Great content yo keep doin
I picked up that Tumbling Dices about a month ago here in Lake Charles same batch you were looking at there. Did you know the dice tell the age? Like the one you were looking at is a seven year. I had the JT Small batch in my hand the other day and didn’t want to get killed by my wife😂 You got to try that Rare Breed over an Ice cube. The flavors that come out will knock your socks off. Good video man I will definitely be going to check this store out.
When you were at Nunu's , pretty sure that they had batch 2. Look on back and see what batch number is Batch 224 is batch 2 of 2024. Pretty sure Batch 1 (124) is only still available at Rouses.
The Barrel Bourbon Single Barrel Pick is great and have loved NuNu's the few times I've traveled over there. Cleaned house on old limited release Goose Island Bourbon County bottles they had sitting out. I like the Prisoner's Share comparison but a few things; Prisoner's share wine is a red blend, not a Cab Sav like stated on that bottle, so not the "same barrels". The High West Prisoner's share is also a blend of straight rye and bourbon whiskey, not straight bourbon like on that High West Pick label. To my knowledge I do not think High West discloses the age statement of most of their products, so no way of knowing if they are the same age or not. I don't have that pick on hand to look at the back label, but one of the Louisiana Release Barbados Rum Finished bottles I have only says bottled by high west, does not say distilled by high west. I am fortunate enough to have a prisoner's share and it has the same wording on the back label. So, I suspect most of the products we are talking about are sourced MGP or similar sourced juice they blended and finished.
We agree with you about WT Rare Breed. They're decent, but for roughly the same price, we can think of a handful of barrel proofs that come with significant value and a few for almost half the price. Great video with some really nice breakdowns on the different brands and labels. We would have left with a ton of JT Meleck 😅
@RelaxedBeet Old Hamer Cask Strength is pretty solid, and we can find it regularly now for about $30. Benchmark Full Proof is decent for about $25, albeit it usually needs to be decanted first. We can find New Riff SiBBP for $40 from time to time, and it's a flavor bomb. Even the Costco 1792 SiBBP go for about $30 and (some releases) can give WTRB a run for their money. Obviously, taste is subjective, and the concept of "better" is open to interpretation, but when you're talking about the value on a scale of pricepoint, there are definitely other options that punch above their weight.
For as many people that I’ve heard praise it, did not think Penelope Barrel Strength was good at all for a sipper. Tasted like it did not spend much time in the barrel, went into cocktails here. I do think Architect & Toasted are good though. Those would be re-buys.
I’m a Louisiana boy too & JT Mellick brand isn’t special. It only is to him because he can’t buy it where he lives. Same with Cajuns Cut….Lafayette people are overhyping this just because it’s local. They have a long way to go.
@@christopherkozal7987 have to disagree just purely based on the fact that people even in other states also LOVE JT Meleck. It’s won so many blinds for folks as well. Cajuns cut single barrels for the price are some of the best juice I’ve tasted this year as well

LETS GET IT
I bought the JT Meleck Cask Strength and there was too much ethanol there for me.
Totally fair. It’s definitely not one that “sips under proof” I think I’m just a big proof junkie.
Try the woodinville rye! Especially if you can find the cask strength.
Great video. Folks are sleeping on JT meleck and Dettling. Can’t wait to get a dettling pick to CO soon
I believe Pinhook is releasing the same bourbon each year. That’s why they have the different numbers. I could be wrong but that’s what I heard.

Can definitely work on that. Cheers 🥃

You addressed RD One…. Moving to Colorado in a month. Is RD One available in Colorado or should I bring some with me?
It sure is!
wish I could get that JT Meleck. Had a sample of a BP pick and fell in love with it.
Isn’t it amazing

The Pinhook you want is the Champaign colored one it's called Bourbon War.
Awesome thank you!

Green River is such a great value for how good it is
My local Sam’s club has heaven hill bib for $32… still can’t bring myself to buy it as I have heard such mixed reviews
Treat ya self, don’t cheat ya self now! It’s not a super crazy, but it punches above its weight class for sure.
@@shahiemjones2513 will be taking your advice and pickup this weekend
Sorry I missed you in Colorado....I saw you ate crawfish while home, hope you ate enough for me!!!
I’ll be in CO until July! Ate a TON of crawfish
Nice pickup, Enjoy New York!
Did ya get to hit up ambassador wine and spirits or Marcelo’s before heading out?
Great prices

I love my Dettling
That McLaren JD is a liter sizes vs the 750 just sayin

Is it just me or does anyone else find it strange that hes getting excited about seeing regular everyday shelfers at MSRP?
We live in Colorado bro…dont see it much.
Nobody can afford these prices
