the Castle climb is a must for any enthusiastic hiker as this bold mesa stands proudly challenging you to climb it. It has quite a few ropes and exposed areas to issue caution but the magnificent views of the Budawangs skyline from it's plateau it's worth every bit of effort

If you got to the second rope, then you went the wrong way. About 1/3 of the way up the gully leading to the second rope you turn hard left and go across the top of the sloping rocks. The small pyramid shaped rock has foot holds carved into it and it is relatively simple to traverse around it. You then ascend a simple ramp then climp up the rocks with the tree molded around it. First time I climbed the Castle (1975) there were no ropes, I stil climb it and don't use the ropes. Look around, find the good holds & use good technique, this is much safer.

Wow you climbed the Castle in 1975 and you're still climbing it, pretty impressive. Thanks for the information, I will keep it in mind as I will be going up in a fortnights time,
obviously not a lot people know about it because when one of the ropes needed changing quite a few comments where posted about people not been able to climb the Castle, happy hiking
