DO NOT BUY The IKEA VAPPEBY Speaker without watching THIS first. It's got a pretty MAJOR issue.

    Reading original instructions: If the speaker’s front protection is soaked with water, acoustic
    performance may be affected temporarily, but it will go back to normal
    once the water is gone. So there :)

      @kiphakes  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I’m still waiting for it to return to normal.. 😂

      @@kiphakes mine already dried out. It’s all good so the speaker isn’t made for a bassy or loud tunes. it’s an affordable speaker or shower speaker. Should I say this is only if you don’t want to get other IKEA speakers and just a cheap one

    Running water hits it with a pretty high pressure, likely much higher pressure than what it would be 1 meter under water. What you did probably excedeed the IP67 standard. If you hang it somewhere in your bathroom and don't try do directly hit it with water, it will be fine. I used it during showers and never had any problem. I guess the only problem is lack of volume controls! :) But can't really complain at this price.

    Would it be easy to add a line-in to it?
    It could be handy as a tool when tracing audio signals in circuits.

    I have the gorgeous yellow one and the IKEA USB-A to USB-C in yellow matches perfectly! The speaker sounds great, too. Well worth it.

    is it better now after drying for a bit? i assume water got on the speaker membrane. Not a big deal but it cant sound the same when soaked. :)

    • @kiphakes

      It was certainly still broken after 3 days of drying - I’ve not bothered with it since

    Is this loud enought to listen to podcast, audiobook in the kitchen while there are some background noises such as cooker hood running?

    • @kiphakes

      Probably if cranked up

      Depends on many aspects, where you place it speaker, down on the counter, in a corner, table and so on, we have our speaker on our cooker hood, well it's a JBL Charge 4, but works great, because the sound is at face level, but the small speaker, you might go give it a try.

    probably got to the speaker card, and that is now deformed so it would be that, that also reduces the volume. but to be fair even if something says it is waterproof like a watch, I would still take the watch off my wrist before washing my hands. as safest way to be. not bad sounding quality speaker (when it works) though, ideal for the bathroom as long as like this video shows it doesn't come into contact with water.

    Better sound with 2 of these Vappeby speakers for stereo rendering. And nice results with VLC audio-video player.

    I was wondering how many speakers did you buy? And did you buy from different batches? Do you even do that? I thought the failure rate of *all* devices was relatively high?
    Not trying to defend the speaker but the high profile, Linus Tech Tips review-not-a-review just does such a poor job of looking at products, I was wondering what the process is for a professional reviewer.

    • @kiphakes
      @kiphakes  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not a professional reviewer in any sense. I usually buy one of everything because, well, I’m paying for it out of my own pocket and I don’t really have any sponsors. With this one I used it as it would be used in a typical home. Ie. One way or another it would probably end up wet, especially if kids were around! Maybe I should have picked up a couple more..

      @@kiphakes Ah, the other comment, where you were brought up in another dude's channel made me think that you might be.
      No, yeah, I was not trying to accuse you of anything. I saw the comment about high pressure and I saw your shower head, and if your shower head breaks the speaker, that seems really bad, lol!
      I hope you understand my point though. For example, I read the Amazon commented ratings and I have not bought a single device in the last six years (besides a phone), because, according to those comments, every single device known to man has almost a 100% fail rate (This is a good way to save money though). I do not doubt yours broke, I am just curious if it happens to everyone or if you drew the short stick. But I definitely do not think you should go out and buy more to find out, especially if you are out £12, and for all you know the next one you get would be from the same defective batch.
      I really hope the tone of my message did not come out too harsh, was definitely not my intention, let me know if it is though, only way I will learn.

    IP67 is IP67 its an immovable standard, the 7 means
    Protection against full immersion for up to 30 minutes at depths between 15cm and 1 metre (limited ingress permitted with no harmful effects.
    I've installed industrial equipment of this rating in exposed areas subject to very bad weather with no issues.
    In short Ikea are advertising false info on this product and should be taken to task.
    My IP 67 earbuds are amazing in the shower too.

      I bought a waterproof Bluetooth speaker for my kitchen and I accidentally knock it off into dish water and it was working for a few minutes then stopped working so I took it apart and let dry out and put it back and it didn’t work after that
