As a space nerd, I feel like we are in the golden age of spaceflight. So many companies and exciting projects. I love it!

wan't the golden age in the 60s?

@@foughtthelol Sure, I could agree with that. Perhaps how we are in the platinum age?

I'm glad to hear both government and commercial entities planning for Mars. Experience tells us that such ventures generally take longer than planned, but you have to start with intent.

People to Mars in 4 years. That isn't going to happen. But I'd like to see it as a transport for a Mars Sample Return Mission launched in 4 years.

I would add one transfer window to accomodate for Elon Time (tm)...

While it seems unrealistic, It will only take a couple of successful launches and catches, and cadence testing will accelerate dramatically. The main issue with getting it human rated is number of test flight right? When rapid reusing, those numbers will increase rapidly.
Would love it. We will know pretty early in 2025 if there’s a chance

FAA will crush this time line.
SpaceX has not submitted an environmental impact statement for Mars landings.

Yes, it's all the FAA's fault.
How about you take a ride on the next Starship?

Not realistic at all, we need to perfect tech on the moon first.

Well, careful. An uncrewed to Mars attempt in next couple of years is not out of the question. Think about it: All of the pieces already have to be in place- for other reasons. Including entry into a planetary atmosphere and then landing, after having to have done orbital refueling around Earth. That said, interplanetary navigation is not trivial, but this would be a good first training ground internally for SpaceX’s folks. - Dave Huntsman

I mean hello everyone...Wake up, this is our opportunity to expand and I am scared that if we don't work on quick timelines then we can forget it. Look at Polaris... Do People not assume that they are working day and night on their plan for Mars. Don't forget Starlink was also built to provide funding for SpaceX. Elon is ahead of everyone. I LOVE IT.

It feels to me like Starship in an unreusable form is still more viable than SLS. And could do the job in just a couple years when it comes to anything uncrewed in low earth orbit or to the Moon. Reusability would be a real game changer, but when you're competing with SLS, it seems like Starship may already have the lead by a large margin when it comes to cost and feasibility, especially in an uncrewed mode. We've got Falcon and Falcon Heavy for putting crews up. And a bunch of other competitors.

Realistically they could do it. SpaceX isn't NASA and Elon is very serious about a quick timeline, so it will happen. But everyone should keep doubting SpaceX cause I love it when they prove everyone wrong. It gives me assurance that there are people who still work hard.

Starship will have flown 5 times by end of year and SLS..... haha, it isn't even flying on a consistent basis. SpaceX will do it because they do it differently from everyone else and that is why they are the 1 space provider in the world. THIS IS GETTING REAL EXITING.

Ok we want to go to mars woo hoo. How about we figure out how to work outside of the magnetosphere, build some infrastructure up there, figure out how to refuel in space, maybe build something like an automated emergency stations between the earth and mars that can render aid to you if something comes up instead of just dying if your ship has a problem etc....
Nobody has left left low earth orbit in decades, NASA needs new Eva suits and their contractors have wasted mountains of cash, so private industry is going to have to step up and create something most likely spacex. Speaking of say what you like about musk but spacex is keeping the united states space program alive. But mars as a goal is pointless until we see if we can make longer-term crewed operations away from earth work, and right now we can't so until we change that going to mars is at best irresponsible and likely to get the astronauts killed
