I Hit The Redfin Jackpot, Perch Fishing In A Lagoon

- The redfin (perch) fishing has been very slow in most of my regular places lately. I would have been happy just to catch one small redfin in this old lagoon when I fished it recently. I certainly wasn't expecting to catch a feed of big redfin.
A redfin is an English Perch. In Europe they call them Perch. As we already have several native perch, we call them redfin.

time to cross check every blade of grass from your video to google satellite to find the magic redfin lagoon LOL
Hahaha
The transition from peaceful music of the scenery than the dramatic change when the drone almost attacks your face 😂😂
Great Reddie vid Robbie.
They are quality fish mate.
You're right, your Uncle Trevor will be looking down with a big smile on his face.😀
Thanks so much Bruce. Absolutely he will be.
Nice spot and awesome reddies, WIN!!!! R.I.P. Trev! 🙂🎣
Thanks mate. 🙏
Lovely touch to mention your uncle at the end Robbie.
Cracking fish, & what great memories you have of your Uncle Trevor. A lovely, heartfelt dedication. Nice work, Robbie.
Well done Robbie, great catch - your Uncle would be very happy with that!
Thanks Frank, I'm sure he would be. Not as happy as when he use to beat me at Mario kart on the Nintendo 64 though. Haha
Now that’s a great feed of readies mate. Last was was a whale! Lovely respectful thoughts for your Uncle mate. Well done Robbie.
Thanks so much Glen. 🙏
Lovely memories of your uncle, Trev! We all have someone special in our thoughts, Robbie. Great video as usual mate.
Thanks so much Wayne. It's been 11 years next month since he passed away.
Great stuff!!
Thanks mate.
A great feed for you Robbie🎣👍🏽
Thanks Al. 👍
Hey mate. When spooling braid, I also don’t like to have a knot in my spool. So I wrap 2 layers of electrical tape around the spool first. The braid will bite into the tape and not run on the spool. Seems to do the trick for me
Excellent idea. Someone else suggested the same thing.
I love Perch!! Great vid
Thanks so much mate. 👍
Awesomeness Redfin mate, keep up with the great work and videos
Thanks so much mate. 👍👍
Great video Robbie. nice haull
Thanks mate.
Good one mate and great memories 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks so much Cam.
Hey Robbie mate love the videos I don’t think you’ll remember me from previous videos but I’ve praised your videos for ages and still I love them keep up the great work mate you make my day with these videos
Hi mate, thank you so much for your amazing support. 🙏
well done robbie and tight lines.
Thanks so much mate.
Nice looking spot, quiet without any yahoos, power boats or traffic noise.
Cool tip on the braid-nylon to a reel, I'd not known that
Thanks mate. "How's the serenity". Haha I love quiet backwaters like this, away from the crowds.
A lovely trip down memory lane for you Robbie. Great to see that the place has some supply of quality Redfin, hope that you enjoy the feed. Might be worth a trip there in the kayak to chuck some Redfin lures around. Cheers.
Thanks so much Neil. I fished it from my kayak once before and done no good, but I am keen to try it again soon. 👍👍
great job robbie!!!!!
Thanks mate. 👍👍
G'day Robbie, you managed to catch some nice sized reddies, some relaxing drone footage and a dedication to your uncle, loved this video🐟
Thanks so much Leo.
Good job Robbie
Thanks mate. 👍👍

Maxima ultragreen, my favorite mono. Some nice reddies mate and just like big kev....your excited!
Haha thanks Damo, I certainly was excited mate. 👍👍
Nice
That's a nice brace of quality redfin! This lagoon looks like a perfect spot for someone to drop a few silver/golden perch into.
Thanks mate. I reckon that Silver's would do exceptionally well on there.
Great video buddy
Thank you so much. 🙏👍
Thats unreal mate, well done. Epic spot aswell, the last reddy was a tank
Thanks mate, I was so happy to see them still in there.
Great catch Robbie. Long time since I have caught a reddie.
Thanks Phil. They've certainly thinned out in a lot of areas in recent years.
Well done, I'm happy for you but also jealous 😮
LOL Thanks mate. This was certainly a stand out day.
Nice work, my friend 😎
Thanks so much Gary. 👍👍
Nice catch, Robbie. You wouldn’t expect them to grow that big in a small space like that?. Great video ✌️🙂
Thanks Tubby. I was so happy to see them still in there.
Im actually super excited that you're back in the drone game!!! To mark this special occasion, can u create a short video, im not to fussed what one u have! Can u just put the video of u flying a previous one up a trout stream!! One of the funniest videos ever! I'm sure a lot of you newest fans would love it! Great Reddies also!
Hahaha thanks mate. Is that the one that flew into a tree and then fell into the river? 8 days after I bought it for $850. LOL 😂😂😂
@@robbiefishing yep!! Funniest thing ever!
Wow Robbie from the thumbnail it looks like you had a pretty good dinner haha.
Thanks mate, I sure did. 👍👍
Now THAT'S a haul!
Thanks mate. I was super happy with the result on this trip 👍👍
@@robbiefishing I bet! A Great FEED as well I'm betting!

G'day Robbie once again enjoyed your show would love to come fishing with you one day cheers mat the butcher 👍🇦🇺🍻
Thanks so much for your kind words Mat. 👍👍
The last time I caught a reddie in the Murray was 20 years ago at Bowers Bend Echuca it was 40cm
Sounds like this video is history repeating its self Good on Uncle Trevor for spending time with you
Thanks so much Pete. I remember as a kid the Murray below Yarrawonga was full of redfin.
I found when respooling your line
Put your new line in a bucket of water
Then when ya winding, it doesn't over spool
Just a helpful hint
Your new line that is
Thanks mate. Someone else suggested this to me once too. Sounds like a great idea.
Yes you’re right Robbie. We all love a nibble on our worm
LOL
Hi Robbie, I normally get my partner to stick a pencil through the new line spool, but if she’s not around a good way to load your reel is to put the new spool in a bucket of water, it just slows the whole thing down 👍
Nice collection of stripies... bet they taste good 😀
Thanks Doug. I have used the pencil technique a lot, but not the bucket of water. A few people have suggested it. I must try it. 👍👍
Every time I see we’re your fishing all I want to do is pack my camping and fishing gear and take of with the FAM another lovely spot and fish on bro❤
Thank you so much mate. I desperately need to get out camping again myself.
Maybe do an over night video
Hey Robbie I smile everytime I hear you getting excited .
The submarine was returning to Holbrook 😂😂
PS I'm home 🏡
NICE reddies! More like what I catch!
Coffee than bass fishing no good just being a spectator even if bass fishing is a bit $**t in the middle of the day lol..pretty cool to have those memories with ya uncle & his spot still paying off🤘🏻
Thanks mate. 👍👍
hey robbie great videos mate! in your next bait fishing video could you please explain how you rig your worms, and what size sinker do you mostly use. cheers 👍
Thank you so much for your kind words and great tip. I will add it to my list of things I want to film. 👍👍
backing is really only necessary with braid, you put me onto the maxima ultragreen and i have to say it is really good for a mono line.
Thanks mate. I agree. I've never been a fan of backing unless using braid, or on a fly reel.
Rest In Peace Uncle Trevor. I didn’t know you personally but I’m sure you were a man who helped others just like Robbie stay hooked up my friend ❤❤❤. I’m sure Trevor was looking down on you thinking don’t steal all my Redfin Robert 😅
Haha thanks so much champion. I promise not to steal them all. LOL 😂😂 Uncle Trevor was a fantastic uncle.
@@robbiefishing hahaha their is tons of reddies for Trevor to catch
Great to watch as always thanks for sharing Robbie.
Some nice fillets of Red Fin there, and great drone footage.
Uncle Trevor would love it and was watching I am sure mate.
God Bless you Trevor , rest assured Robbie is doing a great job.
All the best all.
Rob.
Thank you so much Rob. I'm sure he would be very happy looking down. God bless you too. 🙏
Love the redfin vids can completely relate to the bloody turtles feel so bad for them caught 9 cod fishing the other day but i caught a nice fat 77cm cod any lure tips for redfin as i need some new lures
Thanks Ned. Turtles are a pain. Well done on your cod mate. I don't know where to start with tips. Check out my redfin fishing playlist mate. There heaps of tips and info in there. 👍👍
Hey Robbie. Great vid mate. Question from a noobie. Why do you gut your reddies if you are filleting them anyway?
Thanks mate. It's the way I was taught as a kid. I believe taking the guts and gills out helps to prevent them from going off.
Thanks for showing how to put new line on I’d just would have got a new rod
Thanks Catherine. I hope you found it useful. 👍👍
@@robbiefishing I don’t fish but I love eating them n trying new foods ie fish but my parents hate it so don’t get to try a lot of it
Great video mate !! Just wondering what your stumpy rod is ? Cheers 👍🏾
Thanks Matt. From memory I think it is a Silstar. I'm not 100% sure. It's 103cm long, I do remember that bit.
@@robbiefishing thanks legend !
I just put a small piece of electrical tape on the spool with braid. Never had a problem.
Good stuff Robbie. Do the girls eat fish? Lots for you if they don't. cheers.
Thanks VB. No mate, none of them eat fish. More for me. Haha 😂
Have you tried yabbying in this lagoon Robbie? Or is the bank to step.
Hi mate, I did once about 2 years ago but didn't do any good.
Ha Robbie do you know any good spots to fish on lake Hume thanks
Hi mate, I like the Ebden boat ramp area and Kookaburra point, although I believe the lake is fishing really slowly at the moment.
Thanks mate we will have a go I haven’t caught a Redfin before and I caught a yellow belly along time ago but don’t remember so hoping to catch some down there thanks again Robbie you absolute legend👍🤙
Hey Robbie lam in central Victoria really bloody hot at a billabong the water is dark nearly black, we have caught two fish maybe Redfin can’t really tell because of their color carnt take a picture they are not carp my mate taken some photos we will have a look what they are when we get home.
Sounds interesting mate. Redfin from clear dark water are usually very dark green in colour.
@@robbiefishing this water is not to clear it looks like ink
And the yabbies are black
Hey robbie! what rods are you using?
Hi mate, one is a custom made rod from JD Rods and the short rod is a Silstar 103cm rod.
@@robbiefishing thank you!
Mate you need to check out the lower south island of NZ. Perch every cast. A pest fish.
Hey Mike I would absolutely love to some day mate.
U should go back there with lures Robbie
Holly and I actually did, and we didn't catch anything. LOL
Mmm 😋 Reddies 😋🎣🐟🐟🐟🐟🎣 Happy filleting
Mud Marlin; ... Very fat and healthy.......
..... for now 😅😂😂😅
Thanks Uncle Trevor 👍☺️
Thanks Robbie 👍😁
Haha thank you. Healthy... For now. Poor carpio. LOL 😂
How fun are the small rods
They are amazing mate. I love fishing with it.
One day I hooked into a 75cm carp and you should have seen the bend in the rod it was hilarious
Nice catch Robbie can you put the map of the area please
Thanks mate. I am in North East Victoria. 👍
The maxima line is going line so is the schinder fishing line
Thanks mate. I'm a huge fan of Maxima.
Rip uncle Trevor
Thanks mate. He's been gone 11 years next month.
Big Redfin, would that be up there with one of your biggest?
Thanks mate. No, I've caught quite a few bigger than this. My biggest is 44cm from Lake Eppalock last summer. Second biggest is 43.5cm from Lake William Hovell 15 years ago.
I've caught a lot in the 40 to 42cm range. Finding them bigger than that is a real challenge though.
Hey Robbie!
I have a question for you.
Do you believe it is necessary to own a fishing licence for NSW and Victoria simultaneously?
Considering that the border line is located on the Murray river?
Or is it unnecessary for you due the fact that you mostly fish within the Victorian border?
Also if you find the time to shed some light on the recent fish kills and other devastation on the darling river in the menindee region, there are many people who would appreciate it.
We just can't seem to catch a break at the moment robbie.
I know you have spoken on this in the past but we could really use your huge voice to let people know that this is a man made disaster and that it isn't good enough.
Love you and your content as always mate 🍻💙
Hi mate, I always just have both licences as I spend a lot of time in the NSW Riverina. There's certainly a lot of confusion around the Murray River and the lakes.
As for the fish kills it really frustrates me that nothing is ever done about it.
There seems to be no accountability. I don't know a lot about the Darling, but in the Murray there are a number of reasons with a build up of plant matter and leaf litter on the river flats being the biggest problem.
Whether it's cattle, or back burning I don't know, more research needs to be done, but something needs to happen to reduce plant matter on the river flats.
nice reddies and nice gesture your late Uncle Trevor.
Thanks so much mate.
You rippa. Should be a good feed.
Thanks Mike, it sure was mate.
first
U weren't tho I was LOL

Thanks Dan. I haven't even fished Stanley Dam for ages mate.
Hi Robbie aren't redfin introduced species dont think your allowed to throw them back here in sa what do you think.👍
Hi Jessica, here in Victoria we are allowed to release them where we catch them, but we're NOT allowed to relocate them.
🤤🤤🤤
