    This idea is not all that far fetched. China did that with the city of Shenzhen. At a time when the whole of China was very much like North Korea now, the then new leader Deng Xiaoping ordered the creation of a city at the site of Shenzhen, a tiny fishing village, opposite Hong Kong. Enormous investments, loosening of laws and government control, openness to foreign business and influence. permitting opportunists to get "filth rich", and the resulting money corruption, proposition, gambling, you name it. All the things that the totalitarian regime like North Korea of today couldn't possibly tolerate. The result is a mega city in 30 years, an economic power house of the East. Today's city of Shenzhen has a GDP equal to that of the whole of Greece (without the debt.) Of course, the city was not created so much for economic reasons than for political reasons. Hong Kong was due to revert back to Chinese control from the British in 1997. So the Chinese government wanted to demonstrate to the people of Hong Kong, long ahead of the takeover, that it is a government that is capable of tolerating a city as decadent as Hong Kong and that the "one country, two systems" policy can work. As it then happened, Shenzhen became much more decadent than Hong Kong ever was.

      Comments The problem with this project is what does it offer that your average other places do not? China at the time of Deng offered tax incentives, laxer regulations, and cheap labour. Saudi Arabia's oil wealth has created a country of people who rely on hand outs rather than working for a living.

      "Opposite Hong Kong" being the key point.
      Also your point about China at the time being impoverished peasent rural economy.
      What that meant is that Shenzen had the expertise and knowledge base (from HK) and a dirt cheap labour force to work 90hrs a week for $50.
      YOU have neither of that in KSA. The KSA pop are poorly educated (half-girls are uneducated and can't work) and lazy thanks to gov subsidies and handouts.KSA's populatio will revolt if they are told to give up their i-phones and instead make i-phones.
      You need to learn about what KSA is.... a ugly oil dictatorship that keeps it's pop' subserviant with huge social welfare handouts, draconian religion and state control of EVERYTHING and THE most brutal legal system in the world, complete with beheadings for stealing a loaf of bread.

Relying solely in oil-driven economy is unsustainable especially when crisis strikes and brings financial unrest globally. The Kingdom's plan of diversification of its income revenue through NEOM perspective is the most strategic action to push forth its economy in times of global crises.

    $500 billions divided by 26,500 sq km = $18,868,000 per square kilometer, i.e. less than $19 per square meter!
    Developers must first have a plan and blueprints for a project to estimate the cost!! Who decided that this project is going to cost $500 billions? Based on which data? How many people are going to live and work there? How many houses, apartments, schools, hospitals, universities, shopping centers, bakeries, stores, shops, offices, streets, airports, etc, etc are going to be needed? How much water and electricity is needed? How much sewers will be produced and what should be done with it? Who is going to build it? Where does the workforce come from and how many are needed? Where are they going to be housed?
    You cannot estimate the cost of a project without a detailed plan. You cannot even cook a dinner for a party if you don't know how many people will be attending the party.
    And the most important question is what products this modern city will produce and who is going to buy it? And will the revenue be enough to even pay for the interest of the $500 billions investment?
    The way I see it, this is not a plan, this is a dream

      @@dr.winner2516 Not at all, religiously speaking, Dubai in the way it's like right now, doesn't seem like the perfect place to live in nor does it satisfy the religious needs of a Muslim. In regards to entertainment, Saudi Arabia is the same as UAE, if not better in the last few years, and it's only getting better. We also have much more places with historical value. On a governmental side of things, nearly everything we need from a governmental institution can be done completely digitally, and very quickly might I add. Things that took weeks, months or even years to issue can now be issued within minutes from a unified government app. Which makes everything really easy. And Dubai is way too expensive to live in as far as I know, even the most expensive city in Saudi Arabia is cheaper than Dubai.
      Dubai is good for vacations but I don't think it's a good place to live in unless you were a native.

    The Neom project is located in the biblical area of Midian or Madyan in the Quran. It is where the holy mountain of God or mount Sinai in the bible and mount Tur in the Quran. It is the place where prophet Moses receives the Torah and where prophet Muhammad prayed twice in his Isra or night journey before reaching Jerusalem, once on the mountain and once in the sacred valley of Tuwa where it was narrated both in the bible and in the Quran where God met Moses and commanded him to take off his sandals. The modern day name of the mountain is jabal al Lawz or mountain of almonds which grows on the mountain.
    It is obviously important to the Jews, Christians and Muslims. That’s why the interest in this project. Trump being a businessman sees the commercial value of this area. The development potential is huge. Israel wants access to this area as it is where the Torah was received and Arabia is indeed the land that the Israelites wandered for 40 years before reaching Jerusalem. And Saudi is handing it over to them on a silver platter. Muslims are totally oblivious of this nefarious intentions and are in perpetual fight.
    It is indeed end of times and the prophet had said in his Hadith that mount Tur will be the place where the final battle will be fought. It is not a coincidence that the name NEOM is chosen for this project as it will I believe precipitate the events of the end of times. NEOM can be reorganised to OMEN, indeed an omen to the dark days to come. May Allah protect us all.

    Make a comparison between the future Jeddah and developed Dubai and the advantages of both, especially after the new Jeddah projects such as the Downtown Jeddah project, the slum development project and the Jeddah Tower project after the Public Investment Fund acquired a large percentage of them.
    Jeddah and Dubai are the two most important economic cities in the Arabian Peninsula
    The idea revolves around a comparison between comparative advantages and aspects of competition between them, such as:
    1. Airport
    2. Sea port
    3. City landmarks
    4. Entertainment venues
    5. Archaeological and heritage sites
    6. Markets and malls
    7. The comparative advantage of each city.
    8. Museums
    9.Infrastructure such as metro trains, pedestrian roads, etc.
    Does Jeddah have advantages that Dubai does not have that can be strengthened to compete with Dubai in tourism Economy?
    In my opinion, Jeddah's strong advantage now is two
    1. It is the gateway to the Grand Mosque for those coming for Hajj and Umrah

    NEOM's success depends on it's competitive advantages, which I could not think of any. A smart high tech city requires highly educated workforce, these people are not going to appear overnight. It also relies on foreign investments but why would anyone invests there? it goes back to the competitive advantages of NEOW.
    But it is true, the investment of this magnitude can not be allowed to fail, there is definitely enough political will and a very deep pocket behind it. We will see after more information released about the project.

      don't mistranslated the Hadith adding "deaf, dumb,blind" ! if by mistake then fine .. but if you intentionally do it then you are an EVIL man
      this is the right translation
      the Prphet said: That the slave-girl will give birth to her mistress and master, that you will find barefooted, naked, destitute goat-herds vying (competing) with one another in the construction of magnificent buildings.

      someone,
      Prophet Muhammad did not speak a single word in English. Only the Arabic text of the Hadeeth is right.
      I got the translation from the Internet and used it just to give the reader an idea.

    • @someone-wi4xl
      @someone-wi4xl 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      of course he didn't speak English .. but that doesn't mean you give people the Wrong translation
      none the less ... i corrected it on my previous comment .. next time make sure you give the right translation of the Hadith if you have any respect of the Prophet sayings
      have a nice day.

    • @mohammaddoofesh4963
      @mohammaddoofesh4963 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      someone,
      I believe that respect of the Prophet is properly paid by quoting his actual words in Arabic. Translations are not binding on the meanings incorporated in the Hadeeth. Also, there are several versions of the same Hadeeth. One translation does not serve the purpose.
      Have a nice day.

However, crown price bin salman is such a reformer to the point where saudi people are shocked by the magnitude of the change in the country. This project will be the start of a new era for the saudi kingdom.

    It would be easier for Saudi Arabia to just irrigate the proposed area and turn it into an agricultural center with the help of displaced Boer farmers. They can increase oil exports by switching to nuclear electricity

    • @someone-wi4xl
      @someone-wi4xl 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      we can't turn it to an agricultural center ... because there is barely any water .. sometimes you have to dig 50m underground to get water
      and we know all Arabian Peninsula doesn't even a single river
      that's why we get our water from the sea via desalination , which needs energy .. the crown prince have talked about the possibility of going nuclear if iran built some nuclear bombs ... but if things sidle down (hopefully) the nuclear power will be used peacefully to produce electricity in the future
      so .. since there is barely any water to go with agriculture , we have to build our economy by doing what our ancestors did .. trading and investments , and hopefully today by actually starting to have a productive economy that produce goods to the world because it's either now or never
      since 2015 we lowered our exports from 85% oil to 55% oil which is nice .. and last year 130,000 saudis got jobs which is also nice
      so yeah .. we have to keep going on this path otherwise we will be hungry with no food or water ... which obviously may lead to violence .. and since weapons are heavily owned (even in weddings sometimes they are used in celebrating and same with swords) because of the Arabian culture ... we might be forced to start another conquest instead of sitting around dying slowly

    Okay I have to say this. Shirvan NEVER said Singapore wasn't a sovereign nation he said it was a "free economic zone." The two are not mutually exclusive terms. Both Dubai and Singapore have free market economies but only one is a sovereign nation. Zone is a term that concisely describes both places by being general enough that neither could be excluded. The important bit is that both are "zones" that have high degrees of autonomy, and thus free markets. Sovereignty doesn't matter in this context.

      @unogal5906 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nab.7250 It will increase job opportunities for Saudis. But not many Saudis can qualify for the jobs. Besides, MNCs won't just be accepting any degree holder from some random University. It will just be a Dubai 2.0 whereby the country attracts another huge bunch of expatriates.

    • @one9412

    • @unogal5906
      @unogal5906 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@one9412 The top universities in KSA are not even ranked above 400 in global ranking.
      While the Saudis can be more domineering in that region when it comes to education standards, this would only boost their sovereignty in terms of SMEs, small and medium enterprises, which means that they can only gain market competitiveness through local MNCs (as they would be more likely to accept workers based on relative competitiveness within the country). However, for any country to expand, the role of global MNCs is crucial, if the universities cannot even rank to be the top 300 universities in the world, the degree which the university issues, is pretty much, irrelevant. The global MNCs would thus be less likely to accept these degree holders due to the potential credential inflation. Thus, they would be more likely to be welcoming expatriates with better qualifications from other universities.
