Cool amp. 12-15 watts, voiced like an old Fender, and it has a great master volume. I would recommend this over something like a Blues Jr. It doesn't really break up much like a Princeton, but it's far less expensive.
Such sweet riffing! Great tones as well.
Man, you are absolutely one of finest players to do these demos. Keep them coming.
Nice review! Great tones mainly from your hands Mr.! I have that little amp head too. Mainly for home use - but its great for rehearsals or jaming with friends too. Especially when you dont want to carry a heavy stuff. Without careful speaker choice it tends to has some harsh highs, beware of Vintage 30 or other screamy speakers. I am using it with Eminence C-Rex. Your Weber seems to work fine too =)
The single cab I got with mine to match the head is awesome. Love the greenback in it.
WoW!
A REAL amp sound!
Nice! Good playing too! Nice demo...
Sounds great. Great axemanship as well man!
Just picked one up. Love this amp. 2 watt mode is killer
Great demo, what a fantastic range of tones from a Les Paul JR..1 P90 and a slab of Mahogany !
yes eventhough the darkhorse is cathode biased and have a long tail PI, (princeton reverb is fixed bias with a cathodyne), they both have similar output and 6v6 tubes, and the US setting is very much a fender blackface type preamp.
Great sounding demo! Really shows the versatility you can get with a Les Paul Junior too. Would you mind revealing what pedals you were using in the demo? Some awesome sounds from those too.
i like your style
Beautiful tone..Is that P90 stock or something boutique ? Sounds lovely ! Cheers !!!
Thanks for this vid! Well done. I've gotta ask you, roknfnrol, what tremolo and echo pedals you're using here... Is that a Strymon El Capistan that you're using there from about 8:28 on, if not before? Sounds BEAUTIFUL, whatever it is! (I have and absolutely *LOVE* both an El Capistan and a Flint.) And, besides deft volume-knob manipulation on the guitar (long live the pinky-swell!), are you using any kind of envelope/swell/'gate pedal or device there, say, from about 7:14 on, for the "backwards" sounds? Thanks!
Hi there, I am using a line 6 Echo Park pedal and a reverb pedal.
Reverb is the Brown fender pedal, tremolo is a lovepedal.
***** Thanks!
You bet man!
Lovely playing. I love the creamy OD with these, is it easy to dial clean tones on it?
I'm not sure, I sold this amplifier seven years ago, shortly after I made this video.
was curious how well this handles pedals..dont know what pedals you are using, but they all seem just fine on the little monster
Hi mate, good show,I would like to hear the thing, played just clean, working on the tone settings, just to understand how can it perform on Jazzy/style stuff, with single coils and humbuckers, can you do that? :-)
I am interested in this little marvel, but just cannot try one around here :-(
Forgot to say, just plain guitar into head nothing through, pedals effects and the like ;-)
How do you compare this to the dr zin terms of pedal plataform, right now im on a tight budget, and looking for something to gig with clean headroom for pedal, iplay mostly stoner rock, but i get most of my gain from iron horse pedal and a fuzz, so im just interested in getting a nice very very nice clean channel and great bass response, but also i dont know if i get a nice amp or save money for a boutique, what do you recommend? (also i was looking at the burris royal bluesman amp)
im actually in the process of selling my blues jr to get one
how did it compare to the blues jr?
"It doesn't really break up much like a Princeton"- That's not necessarily a bad thing, though, is it? Perhaps a little more definition, tightness ("in a good way"), upper-mid and treble chime, attack, "nails"... Great playing and lovely tone, by the way- and not ALL the credit for that tone goes to the guitar and amp...
Does this amp put out enough volume to hang with a Chicago-style blues band with a drummer?
depends on the drummer, dunnit?
What pickup are you using?
What did you use to record this? Mic etc.
+Jonathan Ford iPhone only
I'm disappointed
Do you still own this? If so how is it holding up? Thanks.
Jshortca1 I sold it, amazing guitar, very solid!
Thank you very much for the reply! My mistake in asking though but I meant the Traynor Darkhorse and not the guitar. :)
Jshortca1 my bad, I sold it too haha.
lol, no worries. Thanks for the response!
Jshortca1 I've had mine for years still works great. just got an insane deal on the matching 2x12 Cab as well and it's incredible
Wheres the rock n roll?
Good question, this amplifier has a very clean so there was less rock 'n roll than normal.
This is a poor demo. After the first minute and 46 seconds it becomes a demo of your unknown distortion pedal and other effects. I would assume you did not care for the 12AU7 2 watt mode which I've heard breakup a lot especially with the tonestack bypassed in pure mode. I do always enjoy your playing.
