Georgetown is the capital and largest city of Guyana. It is situated in Demerara-Mahaica, region 4, on the Atlantic Ocean coast, at the mouth of the Demerara River. It is nicknamed the "Garden City of the Caribbean." It is the retail, administrative, and financial services center of the country, and the city accounts for a large portion of Guyana's GDP. The city recorded a population of 118,363 in the 2012 census.
All executive departments of Guyana's government are located in the city, including the Parliament Building, Guyana's Legislative Building, and the Court of Appeals, Guyana's highest judicial court. The State House (the official residence of the head of state), as well as the offices and residence of the head of government, are both located in the city. The CARICOM headquarters is also based in Georgetown.
Georgetown is also known for its British colonial architecture, including the tall painted-timber St. George's Cathedral and the iconic Stabroek Market.[1]
Wow, Guyana has to do something with beautifying and cleaning up the city...
Some parts need improvements, the heart of the city is starting to look more like a modern city.
Yes, St. Martin is very beautiful. I was there a couple f times in the 90’s, but I heard there are a lot of Guyanese are there and they are destroying the place. The islanders were indeed very nice people. I love the Dutch side. My mom was Dutch.
well he went to the worst part of the city as he hates Guyana, all jackasses here will say this is Guyana when they see two streets, what fools,I bet the ass will not go to america and film in the Ghetto?
I was born there when it was BG. MY family left before independence. I will be going there next year to spend 3 months.
Cleaning up Guyana that will never happen with that current corrupt government especially Georgetown, those people mine is nasty just like how that country is nasty looking
That baby in the beginning is so cute. ❤❤
Little cutie....
Gt was a clean city when I walked those streets before coming to Canada during the kabaca Era.Clean up the market
Não vou assistir agora, mas já deixo o like.
OK :)
I like the market walk 👍👍 ( Life In Flip Flops channel 🇨🇦)
Guyana should seriously consider moving it capital city which is still below sea level
as oil money coming in needs to invest more inland rather coastal
Hello hello. I see you in my city streets bro.
You have really walked a lot. Greetings from Punta Arenas and take care out there
No he didn't walk a lot. He literally only walked 3x2 streets donw at the bus park and not even the whole bus park/market. If he had continued to walk just two streets more or gone into the actual market building..... Anyway he should change the title of the video. Lol
Good view of everyday living in Georgetown. I’ll be there in June, can’t wait after 23 years . Where did you stay? 🇬🇧
John, Georgetown is a crazy town and fun.
The hotel I'm currently staying at is the El Dorado, in the heart of the city. It's also a good area as there are many Embassies in this location, so lots of security.

Have a look at my other channel. It has dashcam footage of Guyana. th-cam.com/channels/SMCv9FDp2R9_p1e0k61KwQ.html

I'm looking to stay there with the option of Sleepin or the Ramada Princess. Is El Dorado a well appointed hotel, what are the pro's and cons if any. I would appreciate your opinion.
I would not advised anyone to take a trip back to this hell hole. I left 55 years ago. I went back in 1971, 1975, and 2000. They keep putting up new restaurants and houses maybe 6-7 years ago that’s it. You can’t walk nowhere. The pick pocket are all over the City. They are snatching your things such as purses , chains, cell phones and everything that is visible to the eye. I did not go back with any of those things, but they can spot you from a distance. My Mom was from Holland and I have a few relatives in Suriname. I had a returned ticket to fly back from Suriname to Guyana and on to Canada. I did not want to go back through Guyana so I bought another ticket from Cayenne to Suriname then to Miami then to Canada. I thank God for bringing me back alive. Go visit somewhere else in South America. Some of the other Islands are even worst and very dirty and smelly. You have to hold your nose, but you have nicer Islands like Bonaire, Curacao, Aruba, BVI, US Virgin Island, St. Lucia, Bermuda and Nevis, St. Barts, Turks & Caicos, Barbuda, Monsterrat, Cuba, Puerto Rico, St. Martin on the French side and a few other Island. Guyana is not an Island so you will think because it is in South America it would be very beautiful, but wrong.
I’m sorry to hear. I was last there in 2000 and found it safe but structural was in its infancy. But these incidents happen in all big cities so one has to use common sense and walk with caution , I Know one should feel relaxed but this is reality. Hopefully when I visit in June I will be aware of my environment but I will enjoy with friends and family. Sorry you had not such a good experience.
@@omaveira1979 are you obsessed with Guyana? One comment wasn't enough
Nice video
Thanks
Ohhhhhh Gadddd !
Do I need Long Boots 👢 to walk down Water Street?😳
💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Could you please walk Middle Street
I'm now in Brazil..... Sorry
Wap wap 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲 Guyana looks like downtown kingston Jamaica
YASSS MANNN !
This is Guyana but don't be misled. This area had a little flood days before so the water was going down. This video was taken at the most congested area in the whole country. And this area isn't even a dot in the capital muchless the country to say this is is video of GUYANA. It's only 3 streets out of about over 100 streets in Georgetown only. If he had walked one more corner.... Ppl get me so mad when they post these lazy videos because they walk 2 streets trying to make it look like the whole country is congested. He probably went home and told people I survived Guyana. When all along he was enjoying the fine dining in and fancy hotels and other activities. Lol
This is not..... Guyana. This video is just 3 streets in Georgetown/GT (GT has over 100 streets not shown in this video) on a busy market day at the bus park which I agree is disorganized and you'll come across many attitudes, many languages, many moods, sounds, conversations in that lovely tiny area in his video. Water was now going down also because rains had flooded those streets but nothing keeps Guyanese from a good sale. And people are nice to him. Consider this the park is only 3 streets in GT out of over 100. GT is in Region 4. Region 4 is about the size of Trinidad and larger than every other Caribbean country. Then consider GUYANA has 10 Regions. If people were stupid enough to believe this is the whole Guyana lmao. But I will admit this is an exciting video. Our country is lovely and lively. Guyana nice. Notice when he reached the end the area clears up? 🇬🇾 visit Guyana. You are missing out. ❤
Correct, Guyana is fantastic. The best place in South America.
ok Miss Technical
@@worldwalkingtours2397 Is it safe?
@@dieglhix No Problems... Just be street-smart. Hide your money, don't flash cash around, don't wear expensive jewelry
Don't get drunk and walk at night...
@@worldwalkingtours2397 Thanks for your response. I'm very intrigued on this country, I'm Chilean but we know nothing of these S. American countries. Walking tours like yours are very much appreciated :)
Looks like everywhere u go there is construction .
This can’t be my Georgetown.
Yep
the way i look at it, those CARRIBEAN ISLANDS are R&R of COLONIZING POWER Treaty of Tordesillas
Why must Georgetown look so crowded and disorganized?
That's the park. Yes it is disorganized. But that's not Georgetown. It's the bus park only in Georgetown. Georgetown isn't disorganized
I do videos in Guyana here as well. I guess by now you have already leave Guyana?
Yep! I'm now in Suriname
@@worldwalkingtours2397 safe travels bro.
Thanks
:}
and how is english spoken in Guyana? did you understand well?
Yes and no, I'm Australian our English is full of slang. Guyana English is OK but they seem to make sentences very short.
@@worldwalkingtours2397 thanks
We nned guyana street clean
I agree..... People also need to be educated on how to place rubbish in the bins.... 😎
Americans wonder how people from South America come up here and do better than most Americans. Those people have to hustle to eat, so they bring that same hustle attitude up here.
There is no welfare in South America. You have to hustle. 💯
Ever heard about an organized mess? Lol. We have everyone. Spanish , Indian, Chinese, white, Mixed, black, French, Haitian, and more. Everyone living in Guyana. Guyana is the true Caribbean country. We take all of the Caribbean and more and boil them up into one sweet country. Can't be bored.
Disgusting UK colony.
Africa
People are fantastic,...Blacks in Guyana are super friendly .
Look like in Africa 🤣
Well as u can see??? It's a small Africa in southamerica.

Stink water around the place 😭 💩 tty City
Looks like dirty dump
It's the famous Saturday Markets. Lots of people, rubbish and no bins!!!! 🇬🇾
Doesn’t look like 4K
It is 4k.you need to change your resolution on TH-cam... It's the little clog... Quality... 4k.
Older devices won't work. 😉😎
I left when I was a kid never liked Georgetown I am from region 10 but the still stink and nasty and it been 40 plus years since i left Guyana no change just forcing new buildings in between old and nasty area's sad
I agree with you . Set of nasty vendors and idle some people every day . Would not clean their surroundings. Most of the vendors face is like they have all the worries on their shoulders. Not pleasant so you can patronize them .
Some people are only drawn to the sad and nasty. I suppose you missed the people who were actually laughing and having conversations. Ive seen many other country walks. I don't see a bunch of people giggling and smiling when they are on the grind. Also not everyone likes being on camera. Remember that.
Also....key words....you left. You never stayed to fix or build or create you just stood from afar to criticize on TH-cam. When you lift a finger for Region 10 which you claim to be from then speak.
@@timolynb.guyanas.a589 Well if you are there , you help to fix it and if you are not there , go and help fix what necessary. It seems like most of you don’t like when the truth about things are facing you right in the face . As I see it ,I call it .
@@timolynb.guyanas.a589 My grandmother had the foresight to see where Guyana was heading and sent me out of the country and she was a big party woman doing fund raising in region 10 but all the money was sent to central Gov't and what they wanted to send back to the region was crumbs so to area could not be develop and it is still going to this day that is the reason people leave but the average citizen can't see what is right in front of their faces citizen's just don't sit and reflect on what is happening around and say this is not right and my city should look better than this I can't wake up every day and see garbage around me and feel okay mind sets of the citizen have to change and when that happen you would see a lot of Guyanese coming home because they will genuinely see and feel safe and proud to be back home do you think most of us want to be living in a cold country working all hours of the day and night not just one shift like Guyana I know who could not handle it and ran back to Guyana and asking for a little raise here and there from the same country the ran from think on what I said.
Not so clean guyana.
Don't just walk about name the places as you go along
Sorry I don't understand what you are saying
shameful
💩💩
Guyana is becoming Qatar of South america!! But why are people still in the same condition??
How can you Vlog his Country. It is a total disgraced to visit there much less live in a place like that. This is nauseating for dogs much less human being. If I showed anyone of my friends these vloggers that are showing people only some of the good parts of Guyana and then telling them life can’t get better than this. They will think you just got released from some mental Institution . I can hear the people swearing as loud as possible. How can you bring up kids in such environment. Everywhere you can see vendors selling, you can’t even walk on the side walks or on the roads. Somebody ought to do something about these places. There are beach umbrellas everywhere on the streets and the places are so filthy. The entire market place should be rebuilt. If this is in the heart of the city where the visitors are all trying to take snap shots of the down town core to see the downtown sectors. There are so much garbage everywhere you turned, the streets where they vendors are selling the fruits and vegetables are covered with flies flying all over the foods.
if Guyana is such horrible place, why are you even watching vlogs about Guyana? are you that dumb ?
You hear so much aggressive language in Guyane if u compare it with Suriname. Such a pity. 🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷
Fun city to walk around.... It feels like Jamaica, England, Caribbean mixed into one
@@worldwalkingtours2397 u forgot The Netherlands. We speak Dutch with a Caribbean vibe. The only Dutch Speaking country in South America. Paramaribo is more friendlier 🇸🇷🇸🇷
Yes, Paramaribo is friendly... Unfortunately, I had to cut short my time in Paramaribo because my credit card was not accepted and ATM will not pay out cash..... I just gave up and left the city....
@@worldwalkingtours2397 true that is the problem with the ATM in Paramaribo. U had to go to the RB bank to withdraw money
