Ashburton SH1 intersection and rail crossing upgrade

📣Journeys through Ashburton are safer, after a major upgrade to the intersection at Walnut Avenue was completed in November 2022.
🛤Rail works included a full level crossing upgrade with the installation of new half arm barriers and flashing lights and bells for both pedestrians and vehicles, plus electronic main and emergency pedestrian gates.
The upgrade was funded through the New Zealand Upgrade Programme:

Amazing work, I saw Walnut ave on Monday when it was activated and today but there was no train. Great work.

To serve what purpose? Their is no passenger trains. The platform is still there and that’s all that’s needed. But a huge mistake getting rid of the old one.
