As Michael Mogavero said, The Rev was the drummer until he passes away in 2009. Synyster Gates' fretboard has REV instead of SYN, as a tribute. Each member got a foREVer tattoo to honour their late friend and band member
@Ravi-rf1og no he didn't. Gates wrote it for his grandfather. Rev wrote most of the music but when Rev died the changed the lyrics and some of the music
The Rev's death was especially impactful on the band because he was one of the primary songwriters. He played piano and sung a lot (especially in the self-titled album and the Live in the LBC performance). He had a heavenly voice and a talent in composition on top of his obvious chops and creativity on the drums. There's a good chance that any song you react to pre-2009 was conceived by him. A7x considered giving up their music careers in the months following his death. The whole Nightmare album is half-written by him and dedicated to him. There's even a song in Nightmare called "Fiction" which is considered to be his suicide note. I guarantee you'll cry when you listen to that song given the context.
The Rev was a musical talent and tremendous song writer, but I heard in the breakdown for little piece of heaven he had not written a song for A7X until almost easy and afterlife which are from their self titled album.
There is no a food chance any song she’d react to before he died was conceived by him, he didn’t even start writing actual songs until self titled, who wrote none on WTF or COE and just did drums. Amazing songwriter and musician but he only wrote songs on self titled and nightmare, for some reason people like to act like he was the main songwriter until he died when he wasn’t especially on the first 3 records, obviously he was a very important member songwriting but the band never really had one primary songwriter it was always kind of a group effort where different guys always contributed.
This song is a tribute to The Rev, their drummer who passed away in 2009. There is a story behind this song. the lyrics in the song so far away "sleep tight i'm not afraid" is actually the answer to the lyrics in a song called fiction where it says "Promise me you'll never feel afraid". The song entitled Fiction was composed by The Rev a few days before his death and is called a Suicide Note. You should try the song's reaction in the next video
I'm not sure where this idea came from about the suicide note - according to a 2010 interview, Syn stated that Fiction was originally an unfinished Pinkly Smooth song they had titled Death, that the rev had finished as the final piece of Nightmare when it was still a concept album 🙄
He didn't commit suicide. It was accidental. He was taking prescription medication from different doctors from around the country, so it was very dangerous. Especially when mixed with alcohol.
Solid pick. I recommend the live version of Afterlife (from their 2008 show in Long Beach) or Unholy Confessions next. Then again, you can do whatever the frack you want so take that as you will.
I can't listen to this song without choking up/breaking up. When I started listening to A7X, I had no clue about what happened, but even just reading some of the stories behind the band had brought so much human element that I just can't help myself but feel for them. Rip REV.
the black and white guitar you always see Gates with is his signature guitar. It's his own custom guitar from a company called Schecter and you can buy a copy of it, Now he uses the same guitar but black with gold stripes
This song especially with the video never fails to make me cry, I watch so many reactions so I’ve seen so many ppl have to go through the same grief for him
I cry every single time I hear this song. To think that this brilliant mind, who created these AMAZING songs such as "A Little Peace Of Heaven", and a majority of 'Nightmare', and much more, died before he could see his band truly blow up is devastating. My brother got to see them one time with when Rev was still alive, so he learned this song on his guitar, and whenever he plays it, even without the lyrics, he tears up. Rest in Peace, Rev..
R.I.P Rev! your sad face got me and now im sad! As someone who is recovering from my own alcohol addiction and abuse, this hits home very hard for me because i know that there were many a night i should not have woken up the next day and my body has paid a price for it. These guys were shown to me in the 6th grade by my best friend and ive loved them ever since! I still listen to bat country from time to time when i need to hear that primal scream get let loose into my brain so i can focus!
I first heard this song without knowing what it meant. After I learned about The Rev, I was honestly pretty sad, I learned more about the band and listened to more songs. The Rev is the reason I play drums. Rip Rev.
as a singer myself i think you should take a look at the song Acid rain. I have been singing a7x for YEARS and i still struggle with this song, absolutely beautiful. oh and its the album closer so there is a long bit at the end of rain noise that fades to the end. also so far away is pretty tough at the end, maintaining those belted high notes oof...
The transition of emotions of Synyster Gates (lead guitar) from the flashback of his goofy self picking at strings to a sorrowful closing solo shows the impact The Rev had on him and the rest of the band.
Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan was actually alive for a good portion of the writing for their Nightmare (2010) album, which this song is from, but sadly he passed away before they could finish it. They took a break obviously after his passing, but the outpouring of support from the fans as well as their own motivation to finish the album for Jimmy had them bring in legendary drummer from Dream Theater, Mike Portnoy, one of Jimmy's drumming idols, to finish it and transitioned Nightmare into being a tribute to their friend. Mike toured with the band for this album as well. If you'd like to hear a song celebrating Jimmy's life from a more upbeat perspective, their song St. James from the Hail to the King (2013) album should be your next listen. As the band put it, "St. James is the light to So Far Away's dark."
The Rev had an enlarged heart and apparently it was pretty painful for him. A lot of people think that he intentionally committed suicide to escape it, and some of their lyrics also hint at that as being the case.
Happy New Year! I recommend making a reaction to one of the coolest female vocalists in the world. Diana Ankudinova - Queen of Goosebumps - Diana received such a title for her extraordinary unique voice. Diana's best performances - Derniere Danse, Wicked Game, Can't Help Falling in You Each of these speeches garnered over a thousand reactions. Diana is in the TOP 3 world vocalists in terms of the number of reactions (about 15 thousand reactions).
First off thank you for the reaction. I was really moved when you finally figured out this was a tribute and your reaction just touched me! Second 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 the hair! Love it! LOL
I always get emotional seeing the footage of The Rev. He was an amazing musician and someone who had inspired me a lot. But I remember watching this video for the first time and crying. He meant so much to A7X and their fans and he still does. I still struggle getting through the song Fiction without bursting into tears. If you ever do get the chance to, please listen to it whether you react to it or not 💙
This song will always leave me in tears. I played in a band in high school and had been best friends with our drummer since second grade. We kind of stopped playing after graduation but Tay (our drummer) called us up to get the band back together. Unfortunately he passed away a few months later at the age of 23. I still can't get over it. He was the best drummer I ever met and the best friend you could ever have. I miss him everyday and I can't bring myself to play music with another band. This video and song are so relatable to me it's crazy. Miss you Tay
FoREVer RIP BRO TO THE GUYS I LOVE THIS TRIBUTE EVERYTIME I HEAR THIS SONG I CRY IT TAKES ME BACK TO 2 FRIENDS THAT DIED ONE WAS MURDERED AND THE OTHER ONE HUNG HIS SELF NOT THE SAME TRAGEDY BUT IT'S HOW I FEEL ABOUT THEM AND THE REV SAD I LOVE YOU ALL FFoREVer
I Just get to Know you due to the reactions of Avenged Sevenfold music, great to know that people that is not a big rock or metal fan appreciates shadow's voice. Greetings from Mexico❤️
Thanks for the A7X month love it. Also if you listen to more of their later work you will hear a different M Shadow's voice tone. I would suggest the song Higher. Off of The Stage album.
Been an A7X fan since I found out about them in 2004/5 in high school 11th grade. Buddy introduced me to their Waking the Fallen CD and that's all she wrote been a fan ever since. FYI The REVS final song he wrote was Fiction he titled it DEATH and he finished the song 3 days before his death. Evidently some say he had an enlarged heart and was going to die anyways and wanted to go out on his terms.
It's been a decade since his passing first time I saw this video I cried it was the perfect tribute to The Rev you should react to Avenged sevenfold- Unholy Confessions it was the first song that got me into them.
You have to react to fiction by them, it's the last song the rev wrote, he basically wrote it and gave it to the rest of the band like 2 days before he died, there are theories that it wasn't actually accidental because the song is very eerily similar to a suicide note
Fun fact about Synyster Gate’s guitar its a custom model made my Schecter for him that they sell and I believe from them its called the Schecter Synyster Gates Custom
5:51 I think I watched this reaction for the first time about a month ago, and now everytime I listen to this song and hear that "burrrrrned" there I have to think of you 😂😂
I literally remember exactly when and where I was when the news broke about Jimmy (The Rev), this one shook me to my core and now over 10 years later I still can't make it through this one without crying. As soon as that soft drumroll comes in in the bridge I just fucking break man, its crazy how much impact one guy you'll never meet can have on you. RIP Jimmy, foREVer.
Charis at the start of the reaction: happy, in a positive mood and simping over M. Shadows Me who knows the meaning behind the song: oh this is about to be journey Great reaction though!
If I had to recommend one it would probably either be Exist or Afterlife. Afterlife is one of my favorite songs of theirs period. And one of my favorite parts is the crazy solo that they do in it. As for Exist, as far as I'm aware it is the longest song they have. Throughout the song the different parts are supposed to represent the parts of the formation of the universe. I.e. The Big Bang, etc.
If it hasn’t been mentioned also Charis Jim the rev he not only was a gear drummer he played piano as well and wrote a lot of songs as well. That’s why it was so sad 😢he was gifted musician just like the guitar players as well.
gracious reactions are better than trying to be funny all of the time. a uptempo song with stoic lyricism are well received with a light touch, but let the heartfelt be.
If you wanna go down the Rev rabbit hole, not a popular song but Brompton Cocktail is one song you should look into. The Rev wrote the song and lyrics. One can interpret that its his note that he knows he’ll die soon. Or Fiction.
I love this song the most of all of their songs because this is a tribute song for their old drummer who passed in 2009 as you saw on Google and that was just before they finished the album Nightmare. I have heard their songs since my childhood and "So Far Away" never gets old even though it has a sad theory/story behind it. I saw a tribute video about the drummers life and it`s really hard to not cry even as a man when you can see that he struggles alot long before he actual passing. It was this video: th-cam.com/video/Mkp_QzCveWA/w-d-xo.html
The Rev had an enlarged heart and was taking medication for it so I think with the combination of alcohol in his system it was an accidental death not a suicide.
This vids is tribute for Jimmy The Rev Sullivan, the drummer drim this band, he died in 2009 🙏 3 days before his death, he wrote the song for nightmare album, this lyrics is like like a suicide note. Try react fiction song 👍
some other amazing songs that show off M. Shadows amazing vocals and passion would be Save Me, I wont see you tonight part 1 and 2, Tonight the world dies, and Buried alive. just to name a few. I'm a huge A7X fan and theyre how i discovered your channel. (i was top 0.01% of spotify listeners with over 19,000 minutes listening to them)
Great reaction Charis! i would sugest to react to one of their live preformance, since A7X is better live (belive it or not). Like critical acclaim from LBC or maybe MIA from their live preformance from San diego
Honestly his switch from how he used to sing in A7X's first two albums to how he's singing in this song, from City of Evil onward, is a big reason as to why I pretty much dropped them after Waking the Fallen (2nd album). I mean I understand why it happened, he had surgery on his vocal cords to remove a cyst prior to recording City of Evil and, according to his vocal coach at the time, he lost 5 notes from his voice. Nothing against them, they're good at what they do, just preference.
FoREVer ❤
You are foREVer Beautiful!

The word Forever itself has a great correlation for the Rev
Forever, foR REV Ever
The guitar solo over the montage of actual video clips of The Rev, gives me goosebumps every time.
goosebumps? dude, you're a really strong person, most of us will be probably SOBBING, everytime we see this
Synester Gates wrote this song as a tribute to “The Rev” who was their drummer after he dies
Actually it was written for his late grandpa but turned out to be for The Rev
He also wrote the entire song ❤️
Ironically, The Rev also wrote this song.
@Ravi-rf1og no he didn't. Gates wrote it for his grandfather. Rev wrote most of the music but when Rev died the changed the lyrics and some of the music

RIP The Rev. Those vids and pics of him at the end always tug at the ol' heartstrings

monday tuesday and friday im here.

"this guy like his guitar" well it's his signature guitar
The Rev had an enlarged heart and was taking medication for it so I think with the combination of alcohol in his system it was an accidental death not a suicide.
If you notice there’s no drummer in the studio with them. I would image it’s to say no one can fill those shoes even though there’s drums in the song.
