Bermudagrass mite

  • The bermudagrass mite, Aceria cynodoniensis, is so tiny (0.006 - 0.008 inches or 15 - 0.2 mm in length in length--barely large enough to be seen even with a hand lens) that it's hard to believe it can cause so much trouble. Also sometimes known as the bermudagrass stunt mite, this pest does not have the spider-like appearance of many mites. Instead, it has a long and thin worm-shaped body, with only two pairs of legs.

    What magnification was this shot in?

      You will be able to see the mites using a good 10x hand lens, but a dissecting microscope with 30x (3x objective, 10x occcular) makes viewing easier. The mites are about 0.2 mm long.

    Bad video!!! You can’t just mow them off. I’ve been fighting these critters all over my town. They create huge bare spots and can eat the entire lawn
