The combination of Ray Eberly, classic and serene followed by the fabulous, silky swing of Helen O'Conell in "Green eyes" I first heard in 1962, I was 16,and I loved it, as I still do today.
Thanks so much for your kind words! I’m always so please to find people that still adore and appreciate my mom and her great talent! Hope you have a wonderful healthy happy summer full of stress free days.
This kind of music is older than l am I have a huge appetite for this kind of music. My taste is broad. I also listen to free jazz, bebop and jazz fusion.
Your mother was a great beauty and a great talent. My mother was born about 3 months after yours (8/15/1920) and told me that "Green Eyes" was the song she associated with the time when she and my father were dating (early 1940s).
It would be nice if you could tell us about any interesting memories your mom had about her career. She must have had a lot of stories about people she worked with or things that happen back in "The Old Days". You could use the "Discussion" tab on your TH-cam channel.
I am 75....I grew up with this music because my mom had tge radio on all day long. The Big Bands, Helen O'Connell, Bob Eberle......they take me back to my parents!!!!
No one could match Helen's "those cool and limpid" greeneyes. I'm 85 and Mom used to sing that tune all ther time and when Hehen would reach that part Mom would anamate and sing along. God Bless
I met Bob and Helen twice in my teens (late 70s). Oh, they were delightful! Helen pinched my cheek the first time, kissed me on the cheek the second time! Great talents and just beautiful people!
I watch this video over and over. Born 55, so I was able to hear this plus others on our judge box. Now we do not even have many music instruction classes in the schools. All these people came and were taught in Europe.
Beautiful. The era of music that should not have faded so fast. Thanks for posting. I eish there were more Miss Helens and Mr. Bobs today and the Orchestras that made them all stars.
Nice to see that we can hear all these wonderful artists and at age 85, I still appreciate remarks, by Helen's daughter and by others who like me remember these artsists during WWII and a bit afterward before Rock took over.
"Green Eyes" is a popular song originally written in Spanish under the title "Aquellos Ojos Verdes" ("Those Green Eyes") by Cuban tenor Adolfo Utreta and Cuban pianist Nilo Menendez in 1929. The English translation was made by Eddie Rivera and Eddie Woods in 1931.
En mi ya lejana infancia oía una y otra vez está belleza. Intentaba memorizar los solos, cada detalle . Está belleza impregna de sensibilidad. Para siempre. Y lo más importante Gracias mama
Bob steps up and out-sings his brother.......but then Helen, singing one of the great big band solos; a lilting, mischievous tone that was unsurpassable at the time....and today!
This was of course mimed for a movie. I like how Bob makes that very clear by completely ignoring the microphone, wheras Helen is more disciplined and at least turns it towards herself as a token gesture. They probably had a laugh about it afterwards. Having said that, what a great performance by the band and singers.
Almost everything we know has improved since this song was recorded, sadly, music has degenerated, instead of dedicated, talented musicians, we now have "Three cord wonders" who release one song and are mistakenly regarded as "Stars"
Dear modern Divas...this is how you present your vocals.....without the gymnastics ! You could all learn from the greats of yesteryear. Helen O'Connell Kay Starr Jo Stafford. To name but three. And Bob Eberly isnt too shabby either !@ 😊
I wonder if anyone on that stage could imagine that ten years later there would be something like Jerry Lee Lewis pounding it out and their entire musical world would be totally gone....
Yes. This is a scene from the movie "The Fabulous Dorseys." William Lundigan and Janet Blair played a fictionalized love interest couple in the fictionalized story. The cutaway to the older man in the wings is to Arthur Shields who was playing the Dorsey brothers' father.

A very talented stunning! lady
I saw her perform at The Bold Knight in Sunnyvale CA circa 1980. She was still pretty and could still sing.
With all the Modern recording technology we have today, nothing compares to these wonderful recordings we had then. The sound is superb!

Like going back in time. Those days will never come back again.
Don't you wish this was still the way we thought and heard music?
Sure do, even though I was born in the early 60's.

Beautiful diction with no waving around their extremities. Love them.
In other words CLASS
Exactly. If you can't handle the extremities, don't spend time there.

Helen O’Connel perfected the slightly off tune singing. Later this was used by Joan Jobim in Desinfinado.
